Both sides will surely select shadow teams ahead of the PL game on Saturday.
September 24, 2018 at 2:27 pm #1679188Have to say that is a given. Last year Klopp did the same and while I do not think we will make 11 changes I do not think we will be far off that as The game at the weekend has no taken on a new dimension following our draw at the weekend
The midweek result is pretty meaningless to me apart from providing the ability for the fringe or injured players to get some game time and try to challenge for a place in the starting 11. KTBFFH
September 24, 2018 at 2:32 pm #1679191Contrary to the match against PAOK, I would play some senior players here. A win against Liverpool is a big win. Whatever competition it would be. While I would love to see CHO, Ampadu, Christensen and Fabregas starting, I think Hazard and Pedro should start as well. Maybe it’s only me, but for me I think this is really the best opportunity to beat Liverpool and bring their morale down. They have a perfect season so far with 6 wins, they beat PSG, it’s time that somebody beat them! The first loss this season would have a morale impact for them I believe.
September 24, 2018 at 8:15 pm #1679284It will either be a mix and match team as per PAOK or a completely scratch team with Sarri suggesting he wouldn’t decide either way until today after training. Personally I would prefer to see Hazard rested so he’s fully firing on Saturday.
A game between two shadow teams won’t have any bearing on Saturday imo.
September 25, 2018 at 7:56 am #1679365I can see where Aindro is coming from but only if the teams are competitive which I really do not expect
If Liverpool win at the weekend, and they are already favourites with the bookies, then in the space of a week they open up a 5 point gap on us so IMO, that is clearly where their focus will be
Like Chelsea, Klopp may include 1 or 2 regulars but equally I would not be surprised in the least to see both teams making 11 changes
I think Sarri will be looking to see whether or not Pedro and Rudiger may be available for the weekend or not before he makes his decision but with the likes of Christensen, Zappa, Fabregas, RLC, Barkley and Hudson Odoi we still have a very strong and experienced backbone to choose from plus up front either Morata or Giroud (depending who he wants to start with at the weekend)
But I think everyone agrees the teams and result will have little bearing on what happens at the weekend which carries far more importance to both teams. KTBFFH
September 25, 2018 at 3:28 pm #1679562Pedro (shoulder), Antonio Rudiger (groin) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (foot) are out.
September 25, 2018 at 4:03 pm #1679575Not unexpected absentees and Zola made specific reference to Ampadu and Hudson Odoi in his press conference as well
Claims the mood is still positive in the camp and we will be looking to win the next 2 games…!! Fingers crossed. KTBFFH
September 25, 2018 at 4:29 pm #1679581Is anyone brave enough to make prediction for the games against Liverpool?
i will go for it anyways, anything other a defeat at Anfield is a welcome bonus, i think we will lose this one. as for the encounter in the Bridge on the weekend, i believe we will at least get a draw. don’t get me wrong as i would love us to win both games but am being realistic and cannot see it happening.September 25, 2018 at 4:52 pm #1679586This is a preview by Skysports: https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-chelsea/preview/401814
It’s really hard to predict, but assuming that both teams play ‘shadow team’ as many predicted in this thread: I think we have an advantage over Liverpool. Our fringe players IMO are better than theirs.
But for the one on Saturday, I would predict the contrary, a Liverpool at the Bridge. I cannot see how our defense can cope against Salah, Mane and Firmino.
September 25, 2018 at 5:10 pm #1679591I don’t think either manager will want to give the other what is essentially a look at the finer workings of their systems. It’s about balance really. You want to rotate out players who you want at peak fitness levels, whilst giving some lads a chance to impress. All the while you still don’t want to just throw away a cup, regardless of it being of lower value. Neither of these managers have won anything at their respective clubs yet, so I think they’ll take it a little more seriously than people might expect.
So, I see a mix of first teamers and quality backup players. I don’t see more than 2 youngsters from Liverpool, I can only guess the same from ye.
In other news : https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11508257/liverpool-boss-jurgen-klopp-says-chelsea-are-being-overlooked-as-title-contenders
He’s not the only one looking at Chelsea and thinking “hmmm” 😛
September 25, 2018 at 6:20 pm #1679598Mak, don’t see us in the running for the title but the weekend game is a pretty big indicator of where both sides ambition lie.
Hopefully a couple of goal feasts – you can have the cup and I’ll take three points in the league. Really not bothered about the league cup as it’s more games this side of xmas I think CFC could do without if we are title contenders… rather suspect you might do a double
On us this week…September 25, 2018 at 6:20 pm #1679599Mak, both club’s will understandably select shadow teams and it won’t have any bearing on what happens on Saturday.
Always nice to win a trophy but I would be more disappointed should we go out early primarily because of the fact it lessens the opportunities for our young players/squad players.
Kind words from Klopp and I’m sure they’re sincere but I don’t think Chelsea will be a title contender this season our journey with Sarri has only just begun and we’re still a couple of key players short of a title challenging team imo and I think Sarri will need a couple of transfer windows to mould the squad to the way he wants it.
Maybe next season if we solve one or two of the problem areas and we retain Hazard. But this season we need to try and reclaim our CL place. Cheers 999
September 26, 2018 at 8:10 am #1679856Think Klopp is simply being realistic and I do not believe many, including us, expected the start we have made. That indicates that Sarri knows what he is doing and is getting his message across and you would expect the team to simply get stronger
We know we are lacking up front which could be our achilles heel plus the fact is that Klopp has been through this process and is about 2 years ahead of us….? Think he is keeping a sneaky eye over his shoulder just in case….KTBFFH
September 26, 2018 at 12:02 pm #1680020Having a laugh at the advertising of the big match on BeIn Sports. All the big names are being shown and mentioned as if it was a Champions League final and the best eleven for each side was a given. The unsuspecting will be grossly disappointed when the line ups are shown before kick off. Hopefully both clubs hold back on fielding the stars and we can both take advantage of the opportunity to rest most and field shadow sides, then, may the best side progress. A bit like the England vs Belgium World Cup Group match if you like.
September 26, 2018 at 1:25 pm #1680078team could be something like this I reckon
Arrizabalaga or Willy C | Emerson, Ampadu, Christensen, Azpilicueta | Barkley, Fàbregas, Kanté | Hudson-Odoi, Morata, Willian
September 26, 2018 at 1:35 pm #1680087I think Kepa has to play. I would like to see him tested before our big match on Saturday.
September 26, 2018 at 3:55 pm #16801731967 – I wondered if Sarri would consider Cahill and Christensen at the back and push Ampadu into the middle as he did for Wales…? That gives us that little bit extra experience at the back and gives Cahill a run out in case we need him for the weekend if Rudi does not make it….KTBFFH
September 26, 2018 at 6:04 pm #1680209Sure thing Cahill will start I think. It would be Cahill – Christensen with Ampadu on the bench. Btw Christensen played DM for Denmark too in the WC I think.
While I would love to see a strong team tonight to beat Pool, I think I should be realistic.
So the team I think to start tonight: Kepa – Zappa, Cahill, Luiz, Emerson – Kanté, Fabregas, Barkley – Hazard, Morata, Hudson-OdoiSeptember 26, 2018 at 6:57 pm #1680221Pretty strong team honestly from both sides. Liverpool have an advantage for me as Sturridge knows how to score.
But we still have Hazard on the bench if needed. Ampadu is not even on the bench.Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Moreno, Milner, Fabinho, Keita, Shaqiri, Sturridge, Mane.
Subs: Firmino, Salah, Gomez, Henderson, Solanke, Jones, Grabara.Chelsea: Caballero, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Cahill, Emerson Palmieri, Fabregas, Kovacic, Barkley, Moses, Morata, Willian.
Subs: Jorginho, Kante, Hazard, Hudson-Odoi, Zappacosta, Luiz, Bulka.September 26, 2018 at 7:29 pm #1680237Must say I am a bit disappointed in the team. No HOD or Ampadu. Starting to get the impression that Sarri is not interested in bringing on the best prospects. Don’t think the team is particularly strong anyway.
