Find the decision deeply disappointing. Surely we are better than that.

Kopite, Liverpool are not alone in this it’s a spectacular own goal by all the Club’s who have decided to tread this path especially the biggest and the most wealthy Clubs.

We can only hope that other Clubs don’t feel compelled to follow and the Government closes this particular loophole down asap to all PL Clubs at the very least.

Just because other clubs do it, does not make the Club I support do it right. Let’s hope no other club follow suit.

Totally agree Kopite and it will look even worse if those make PL Clubs go out and spend significantly in the Summer transfer market.

Ethically it’s wrong for a club of the financial stature of Liverpool FC but how many of the staff that have been furloughed are complaining for getting paid full time salaries for staying home?

    I don’t think that’s the point.
A criminally underfunded NHS which is on its knees fighting a pandemic and is having to scrounge for PPE while one of top 10 richest football clubs in the world is asking for a handout from the govt to pay some of its employees.
Even putting aside the ethical and moral arguments, this is amazingly bad PR.

It is Ginger, I agree. If we are a D2 club I would get it (kinda) but not a club that recently announced an increased turnover of 530m and made 42m in pre tax profit.

In my view it’s a spectacular excercise in shooting ourselves in the foot PR wise, the powers that be talk of following Shanks’s principles but thaat”s the complete opposite of the Shankly ethos, it’s shameful.

Totally agree with ginger. It’s tax payers money

Very disappointed with the club over this. We are getting a huge lot of well deserved stick over this.

    Very poor from us

While the club cannot and should not be absolved of any wrongdoing here, you don’t blame the people who abuse legal systems for their own benefit. You blame the authorities that allow such things to stand without consequences. This whole pandemic has been exacerbated by poor leadership, uninformed decision making, protecting self-interest and prioritising economic benefit ahead of human life. I haven’t been more disgusted with the entire human race in my life.

Good to hear that SOS has written to the club demanding an explanation for the Furlough decision.

Fsg do listen to the fans and it’s good they have reversed their decision and apologised.

    Message from my Everton pal.

Vile, No, we made the wrong decision bollox will get them out of this. THE ONLY reason they have back tracked is because of public outcry, absolutely no other reason and they 100% would NOT have even spoke another word about it if people hadn’t spoken up and told them they are disputable. Once AGAIN, the scum will try to spin this to suit them but yet again they have gone too far.

… just like they did before re ticket prices. They made a bad decision… realised it based on public opinion. We all know it was a bad one but at least they’ve recognised it… case closed for me.

Glad they’ve seen sense and reversed the decision but that doesn’t make it any less embarrassing.

Very embarrassing especially as the Liverpool PR department have spent a huge amount of time trying to take advantage of the socialistic part of our club, THIS MEANS MORE and all that…

Case closed for me too… but club have to do better and be sensitive in the future, if they were serious about trying to save lots of money then they should have furloughed the first team players and not the non-playing staff!
