Mwake.. The problem isn’t who they furloughed. The problem is that they did it at all. For a club or rather, a business that has announced massive profits over the last few years, they should be paying their own staff instead of relying on government hand outs meant to help those that can’t help themselves. Saying that this is a PR disaster is missing the bigger picture completely. I personally couldn’t give 2 fucks about that. This is about an institution abusing the law without any regard for the ethical side of financial decision making. It’s over now but it never should have come to this situation.

Credit to Liverpool though for admitting they got it wrong.

Big pressure on Spurs now to follow suit. But will they with Levy at the helm?

    Good point Razor.

It’s just the way these corporate assholes operate though. They make decisions based on the club’s bottomline.
They weren’t breaking the rules, just taking advantage of the options available to them.

There are a lot of other profitable business who don’t need it to survive, but are still claiming it. The spirit of the law is protect people from redundancy at the end of the day.

Nice gesture from the club though, to reverse the decision.

It was a awful decision to begin with, you can’t talk family first if the first thing you do in a moment of crisis is sack everyone in the family from the club!

    They didn’t sack anyone bingo.

The club has basically shut down all operations, and staff have been sent home indefinitely because of the lockdown.

The furlough system just means that instead of the club paying 100% of the wages, they only pay 20% and the govt pays the other 80%. Until the lockdown ends.

Nobody sacked, and everyone still has a job to go back to.

Liverpool changed there mind NOT because they suddenly care about there staff, NOT because they suddenly feel there staff should be paid, but simply because they were afraid the negative publicity would harm the club financially, that’s why. This is the latest in a long line of shameful acts that this club will try to sweep under the rug, but reputations now damaged. I’m not applauding them for something they shouldn’t have done anyway. One can only hope that those clubs that have been carefully watching these developments now also continue to make sure their own staff are all looked after by the club not the government.

It was a bad boardroom decision that’s been reversed, end of. Not as tho United’s boardroom have made consistently stellar choices over the years have they? If fact they have; strike that; they appointed Moyes, extended Mourinho’s contract then didn’t back him in the transfer market, paid Sanchez half a mill a week, gave ‘I’ll play when I feeled arsed’ Pogba a new deal and got rid of Lukaku who has (humourously) been banging them in left, right and centre since he left. Nice job Mr W!

Liverpool haters are on the lookout for any morsel to chew to feed their toxic minds. I remember some making fun of the fact that Pepe dribbled past VVD, for weeks. Now they crawled out of the woodwork with the furlough decision only to find that there is nothing to gloat about except for their only silver lining “the corona” which has stopped the league.

I used to find tma funny but his comments about getting one up over Liverpool using C19 as an excuse was disgusting.

People dying and families in ribbons and he comes out with stuff like that. Horrible man.

    Seconded Sean.

Shame on you TMA for trying to seize on to the Coronavirus crisis as another one of your sticks to beat Liverpool with.

Liverpool FC got it wrong the fans and numerous ex players told them they got it wrong and Liverpool FC reversed their decision and admitted they got it wrong.

The most important thing is that no matter how Liverpool got there they got it right in the end.

You carry your dislike for Liverpool FC far too far and it’s unhealthy.

At he end of the day football is just a game and you need to try and come to terms with that!

Stay safe everyone in these scary times. Cheers All 9’s

@sean the sailor – I wrote that ill thought out post few weeks back. I never thought this pandemic would spread at the current rate and affect families worldwide at grandiose scale. I was wrong to write that comment and I’m not afraid to say I’m deeply sorry.

Let us together fight this global epidemic. To defeat coronavirus, all we need to do is break the chain by staying home. I urge you all to stay home, wash hands frequently with soap and water, practice respiratory hygiene and maintain social distancing. It is a very troubling and unsettling time but we’ll come back stronger. Stay home, Stay Safe.

How Liverpool’s owners could be so thick as to not realize that such a decision would go down like a lead balloon is beyond me. Yeah you’ve nasty owners. it was pure GREED and a big F you to the British tax payer… you deserve all the flak. You did a u-turn Liverpool, live with it. The thing about Liverpool, the board, ex players, players, fans, all think they are the entitled, and scorned, ‘the world hates us’ attitude. Remember though when you got us all banned from European competitions for 5 years, and other stuff during that era?

Hopefully the country can move on from this and the clubs hierarchy understand that football is not about just making money.

My apology was for my comment few weeks back not for your club decision to furlough staffs. Take a Zanex and go to bed……

Your club only reversed the decision because of a PR backlash. From the embarrassing Suarez shirts to being shamed into making the right decision. What a horrible club. We know what your real values are. The damage has already been done, they showed their true colours… You will always walk alone.

Ok. Because the guy who takes the mick out of dead and dying people should be a moral compass for society. We also know what your real values are. Just so you’re aware of it, you aren’t showering yourself in glory and I’ve never actually seen you do it. Also, by this genius line of argument, the actions of some of the club’s hierarchy is supposed to be reflective of the entire fanbase? A group that has widely criticized the actions of these individuals even in this very forum? You apparently can’t seem to grasp this but no one wants you to walk with us. In fact, we’d be more than happy if you didn’t.
BTW, it’s spelt Xanax. It would appear that you need some as well if you aren’t already on it. Just curious, why do you actually bother to come on here? No one wants you here (most likely anywhere else as well), you don’t say anything productive and somehow, every time, you manage to leave looking worse than you did the time before. What gives? Even the Manure fans can’t stand you. Do you enjoy looking like a total knob everywhere you go? Are you unaware that this is the case? Are you just trying to get some sort of juvenile kick out of all this? Trolling is one thing but this seems to be an obsession. Are you so frustrated and insecure with your own life that you see a need to keep interjecting into conversations where your input is clearly not welcome in a weak attempt to annoy others? This is behaviour clearly indicative of someone who’s been starved of attention and is clearly crying out for it, in which case, I suggest you review your methods. You just look like a child crying because he couldn’t get what he wanted.
Word of advice, if everyone else seems to be the problem, you might want to look a lot closer to home for what the problem actually is. It’s like my old man says, if you smell dogshit everywhere you go, you’re probably the one that stepped in it. There aren’t a lot of things worse than a narcissist in full denial.
