18 years since we last played Arsenal in the Charity/Community Shield. That day we lost 1-0 to a second half Gilberto Silva goal. Starting XI that day:

Dudek, Traore, Henchoz, Hyypia, Riise, Xavier, Gerrard, Hamann, Diouf, Owen and Heskey.

Curious who will start tomorrow. Usual suspects likely missing so expect a strong line-up:

Alisson, Milner, Gomez, VVD patched up, Robbo, Gini, Fab, Naby, Mane, Bobby and Mo is my prediction.

As our last encounter I think this can go either way. Possession wise we’ll boss Arsenal but we’re in early Xmas mode atm and Arsenal have some players than can certainly benefit from our benevolence as in our last meeting.

I’m going for 1-1 and some buggar to win it on penalties. About 1.25 million to each team for competing which blows the whole charity/helping other teams out of the window really.

    If you fancy a flutter:
    Arsenal – 4/1
    Draw – 16/5
    Liverpool – 4/6

You not think Neco will come in if Trent doesn’t pass his late fitness test?

Ginger, highly likely Neco will start but this is just my hunch. Maybe part of my brain remembers the 5-5 last season and Kolasinac and Saka constantly got the better of him (having Gomez shepherding him and Ox often going AWOL in transition didn’t help his cause either).

Id say Gini will play that side to offer some protection to him.

A strong number SIX is vital on our right side to cement the cracks between Gomez and Nico/Trent. In the ideal we really do need a much stronger and more assertive centre back alongside Virgil we really do. Not just to make our centre of defence stronger but to compensate if Virgil does down too because Matip is made of balsa wood and papier mache.

Gomez has been poor recently but I still have faith that he’s the man to partner VVD. We can’t count on Matip at all and should go sign someone who is resistant to injury. It doesnt have to be a world beater. TBH another Klavan would be fine.

Gomez always seems to take a while to get going. He started slowly last season aswell. He was poor towards the end of last season but I highly rate him
And he’s going to get better as he still so young

    Is Matip still injured ye?

No idea on Matip but you have to wonder why we’re seemingly very casual about not replacing Lovren. Does Klopp think Fabinho can offer enough cover there? I guess is we sign Thiago then maybe that’s what he’s thinking there.

I have to say, it’s really odd to have this game today. The PL doesn’t kick off for another 2 weeks. The Community Shield always seemed to be right before the PL actually started, opening up things but what we’re gonna do is play this then get up to PL level fitness afterwards. I would have put it off a week if I were them but I’m not complaining or anything, Im always happy to see us play in a competitive match.

Internationals are next week mak. Really bizarre. That nations league is a load of shite.

I’ve said it before, think Jurgen is thinking of having fabhino as 4th choice cb

Iceland vs England, we’ve been enjoying the Maguire incident over here… it’s always fun to see a side start imploding before you play them

The transfer window doesn’t close until October.
There’s loads of time left and Klopp has admitted as much himself.
We still have players to offload also.

No need to panic, more transfers will be done, even Klopp reiterated that the transfer window closes on 05-Oct, and that’s such a long way to go

Today’s game is one we have to win, to get the winning spirit going again.

A word on Brewster, personally I think he would benefit greatly from playing regularly on loan in the PL next season. Imagine if he played 30 or more games, and really got going, that would be an excellent chance to see whether he can really deliver on the biggest stage.

However I have the feeling, judging by Klopp’s comments, that he may not (yet) be a typical Klopp player in that he is a clinical, ruthless finisher, but not yet a hard-pressing, hard running attacker with the tactical nous of our front 3.

Time will tell though, and I see next season as being a turning point for Brewster
