If we win this, we’re qualified for the knock out stages which means we can rest lads for the last 2 CL games giving us a boost for the league games.
However, the game after this is at the ridiculous time of 12.30 on Sat morning so there will be rotation.I dont see Matip playing again so soon particularly after his lengthy lay off which leaves a gap at centre back. If Fabinho plays again will he be able to play the league game on Sat too, 3 games in 7 days after his hamstring lay off? Brighton game is 2 and a half days after this leaving very little time for recovery.
Nat Philips is unregistered for the CL so he’s out, which leaves Rhys Williams.
Centre back is the major issue for me.Salah may be back for this game as could Hendo and Thiago in some capacity.
Robbo has played a lot of football recently so could do with a lay off some time this week.Would like to be picking this team!
November 24, 2020 at 11:14 am #1895273Perhaps a Fabinho/Williams centre back pairing for Atalanta and a Matip/Philips pairing for Brighton. Neither ideal but compromises have to be made.
If Hendo and Thiago aren’t available to start I can see us going 4-2-3-1.November 24, 2020 at 3:21 pm #1895340Ye I would have started Philips tomorrow if he was in the cl squad alongside willians . It be a risk but we need to keep fabhino and for Saturday
Hope to see Thiago by Saturday. Is he in the squad for tomorrow?
Salah comes back in if all good. Give Minamino and tsmikas a run
November 24, 2020 at 3:59 pm #1895349We do not have enough players availble. We have to rest some but we can not. Besides Atalanta is a good team not to be understimated…
November 24, 2020 at 4:01 pm #1895352Klopp has confirmed Salah is available.
If we win this game we are qualified for next round and can rest/rotate players for final 2 games. This is why I don’t think we’ll go for wholesale changes here.
November 24, 2020 at 10:09 pm #1895451November 25, 2020 at 1:00 pm #1895608Matip apparently did the presser with Klopp which suggests he’s gonna start tonight.
November 25, 2020 at 1:28 pm #1895618Really looking forward to tonight. Which way will Klopp come down on when weighing the selection issues against knowing that only a win puts qualification to bed early? Strongest available or rest a few key players?
Will be interesting to see how Atalanta approach it too. Despite the emphatic score in the reverse fixture, they did cause us a few problems and could easily have scored a couple. Lose tonight and I think that they could still qualify by winning their two remaining games (by courtesy of them then having a better head to head v Ajax if they both ended up on the same number of points. Is that how it works?) so they might be tempted to have a go and open things up. Lots of ifs and buts, I know.
Certainly can’t see it being 0-0!
November 25, 2020 at 4:44 pm #1895672It’s not 100% guaranteed, but statistically better to finish top than 2nd when it comes to the Round of 16 Draw and I believe that finishing top as opposed to mere qualification will remain a reasonably high priority for Jurgen until it is achieved. It could happen tonight if we win and Midtjylland get ‘a result’ away at Ajax – which seems quite unlikely. Therefore Game 5 vs Ajax may still require us to put out a fairly decent team and then we can play the kitman as CB and tea lady up-front in the final group game.
November 25, 2020 at 5:04 pm #1895684A win and a draw from our last 3 group games I think is enough to guarantee top spot.
November 25, 2020 at 5:23 pm #1895695I know it’s tempting that we could put this group to bed with just 1 more win but I think we’ve got to rest a few players. The last thing we want to see is another injury and ya, Fabinho is both desperately needed and also in need of a rest, so he can start the next PL match. Some others in that boat too, Robertson is probably one of them. Is it not time Tsimikas got a start? He looked a handy player in clips but cant seem to convince Klopp of anything so far. Perhaps this will be his time to shine.
I’d start Salah, he’ll need the minutes. Maybe take him off after 60 mins for Mane or Jota. I’d probably go with Mane, as even though the guy is a machine, he never really gets a rest and we shouldn’t risk it.
Would be great is Thiago can make the bench and get on for 20 mins but are we even sure he’s actually ready? It seems like they keep pushing his return back, I hope there’s nothing serious going on there.
Maybe Im wrong but I think we can rest a few and still win this. I’m not taking Atalanta lightly just because we beat them 5-0 but we’ve stepped up a gear recently and have been handling things even with a depleted side so far. Add to that, Atalanta aren’t exactly lighting Serie A up. They are in 7th, only winning half their games.
November 25, 2020 at 5:27 pm #1895698I’ve just seen a few mins of the live training and I saw no sign of Thiago there.
November 25, 2020 at 5:29 pm #1895700He was ruled out yesterday
November 25, 2020 at 6:15 pm #1895708Fair enough, that’s a shame. I guess this means he likely won’t be ready for the weekend. Hopefully he can at least make the bench then at least.
November 25, 2020 at 6:53 pm #1895713Liverpool: Alisson; N. Williams, R. Williams, Matip, Tsimikas; Wijnaldum, Milner, Jones; Salah, Mane, Origi
Substitutes: Adrian, Kelleher, Koumetio, Fabinho, Robertson, Cain, Clarkson, Minamino, Firmino, Jota
November 25, 2020 at 8:50 pm #1895748That was a masterclass by the front 3……
…..in what being completely uninterested looks like
November 25, 2020 at 8:56 pm #1895750Dullest half of football this season from Liverpool.
Team needs shaking up at half-time
November 25, 2020 at 9:02 pm #1895752Hope my earlier claim that it couldn’t see it being 0-0 has cursed it!
Dreadful half.
November 25, 2020 at 9:13 pm #1895754Jota coming on soon.
