Rob&Ginger do you think the signing of a new centre back will resolve our issues? He will have to adapt to the way we play, ie a very high line. The best bet would be to iron out any problems Gomez may having. He looked pretty solid in the league last season. If problems persist Klopp will have no choice but to reinstate Matip in the first eleven, until Gomez gets back to his best, then they can be rotated. If we are to make a good run in the CL then it’s vital that Matip stays fit.

The situation reminds me a bit of the plight of City last season when they were beaten 3-2 by Norwich, but I think we are in a better position to address the problems we are facing.

Cap as I have described previously I don’t think our defensive “issues” are as bad as some make out. I think it’s just a lack of focus at the min after coasting the tail end of last season, which wasn’t that long ago, and has carried on a bit. I don’t think it’ll be a long term problem. We know what our back 5 can do, they can be phenomenal. It’s just a matter of getting them back focused and concentrating again. My worry is that it doesn’t happen quick enough particularly with the games coming up.

If we announced a new centreback tomorrow I’d welcome the move, I want it to happen, but I don’t think that solves anything for this weekend. We know Klopp likes to give new signings a bit of time to bed in to his way of playing.

    This isn’t just a Gomez/Matip thing.
Allison has been off, VVD has been making some high profile mistakes too. Robbo passed the ball straight out of play at the weekend there. These guys just turn into bad players overnight. They’ll be back firing soon.

Red Herring,, before we signed Van Dijk, in the scouting analysis it was noted that he could be a bit too casual at times, mainly earlier in his career. I reckon he got a wakeup call in this game, and hopefully we won’t see any more silly, costly mistakes from him in future
