Well this is a big one.
We managed to only take 1 point of them last season.
    We must do better.

Man City have their own problems at the min. Despite being the most expensively assembled squad in footballing history they seem ridiculously light at the back.
So much so we have seen Fernandinho, Kyle Walker and Rodhri play centreback recently. They havnt been as freely scoring either. Their keeper went off injured last night also, only time will tell if he’s available for Sunday.

We’ve been motoring along nicely without playing fantastically well on several occasions, needing late goals to bail us out, not necessarily a bad thing.
Mane has been terrific, Salah not so much. Firmino too has been fantastic is certain games. For this game we need them all to raise their game.

I don’t think I’m going out on too much of a limb here to suggest a team off…
    Allison
    TAA, Lovren, VVD, Robbo
    Hendo, Fabinho, Gini
    Salah, Firmino, Mane

The battle between Trent and Sterling will be vital to this game. We know Trents strengths lie in his attacking ability, so that might be shackled by having to focus more on his defensive game. With Lovren playing that side also we need to very careful. Aguero is clearly a handful too who only needs one opportunity to hurt us. That being said Citys defence are all over the place at the minute. There is an obvious weakness there to exploit currently and our front three are just the men. So glad Sane is not available for this game. Even if he started on the bench his pace causes all sorts of problems. I can see Ox coming off the bench for us and being a handful.
    Interesting times ahead.

Time to reset and start again, against our toughest opponents in the league. Forget all our recent results, we have to be at 100% to win this one, regardless of who they have missing.

Main thing is we play our usual high-intensity, destructive game, but crucially, with no more silly mistakes or sloppy play, or we will be punished severely.

Back to our regular starting lineup, and the Anfield faithful need to get the boys over with line with their fanatical support. I can see sub appearances for Ox and Origi, hopefully just to make a good day even better

I’d be tempted to play Gomez instead of Lovren but I’m still not sure about that but other than that I just expect our strongest lineup and with everyone fit I want the whole three points, they might just be the difference between ending up first or second.

Anfield will be the key. City will play conservatively like they did at anfield last season. Pep can be a tactical genius or he can over think things and fuck things up. In our cl game in 2018 at the ethiad they killed us in the first half. They were 1-0 up then he pushed ferdhino into a back 3 At half time and we took over and won. He can make some baffling decisions but then again he makes some really astute tactical moves that win games.

It’s such a tough game. Lovren concerns me. Kdb and sterling are such huge threats. We need to be aggressive from the start and just get at them from the off.

A game we must win. We didn’t season. We can point to the draws, yes, as a reason we lost the PL but you simply have to beat (or at least not lose too) your nearest competitor and we failed to do that and let’s face we should have lost both if Mahrez has brought his specks to Anfield last season.

Anyhow, one major thing that we do have on our side (as Sean mentioned) is that it’s at Anfield. Man City, historically, don’t have much joy here, in fact in the 28 games at home since the Premier League began (in all comps) City have only won once and that was way back in 2003 when old boy Anelka (predictably) scored not one but both goals in a 2-1 win following Baros’ strike. P28, W 18, D9 and L1 to be precise.

One thing I have noticed with City this season and it happened again recently in the Soton game is the space they allow in their defensive third and this is where we can hurt them. They don’t have the discipline we have when not in possession in the opponent’s half and I believe we can get at them there if we are pro-active in midfield with the ball. Piss about like we’ve done in recent games especially in the first half and City could hurt us. I’ll say it once more as I always say when playing City we simply have to keep tight to Aguero. He’s the one that usually does the damage against us. Yes, they have injuries but we arse about like we have been doing and they will sucker punch us.

The line-up, I think, will be what Ginger noted above so want to see Gini and Henderson make advances in the attacking third and fracture their band-aided back line. Can’t solely rely on our front three. Mane, yes, Bobby’s decently hot/luke warm and Mo has averaged a goal a month in the league this far (scored just twice from open play since his strike against Norwich three months ago). He has been working hard, yes, but when a system is heavily reliant on X number of players to get the goals and one (Salah) or worse, two (Bobby – one goal since the end of August), are misfiring and we have midfield with no official number 10 then it can easily make heavy weather of things.

Prediction time – DRAW unless we are brave in certain scenarios and lack of bravery in certain scenarios, along with 1/6 from City, cost us the league.

Mo fresh injury concerns for us (Virgil missed yesterday but is fine) but Ederson is definitely out for City.

Just because Pep says Edersons out doesn’t mean he actually is.

I think if we’re on it, we have a good chance on Sunday. Whilst defensively there have been some concerns, we do look incredibly resilient and resolute. We never stop trying, and Ox is a huge plus to now have in the armoury. As close as it was last season, I just think we lacked that real desire in some games last season particularly with regards to some of those draws.

City are still formidable opposition, that’s no doubt. But I do just sense a tail off somewhat in their mentality from last season. I still expect them to turn up on Sunday and I suspect they’ll have a good go because of the points deficit. But I think we can edge it. I’ll go for 3-2. Just hope VAR doesn’t ruin it.

“Ederson is not able to play,” Guardiola confirmed. “Bravo can do it. We won the Carabao Cup with him. He’s an exceptional ‘keeper, a lot of games with his national team Chile.”

Sorry Mikus for the mini heart attack earlier pal. That’s what you get for posting after only one cup of tea!

Looking forward to it, even with some players missing such is the strength and depth of their squad that they are still very dangerous. It will be close but think we will shave it (please don’t have one of those days lovren!)
City yet to play Chelsea, Arsenal, Utd and Leicester…..so if the gap does get reduced today it’s unlikely they get maximum points from all 4. Still nice not to be counting on others to make the difference. Let’s keep the momentum going!

    Liverpool team as expected.
City have went quite solid in midfield with Rodri and Gundoguen.
Will be surprised if I don’t see Silva at some stage.

We are giving Aguero too much space. Don’t care if he’s never scored at Anfield. He’s world class and you cannot give him space.

Lovren has been awful. Anything near him is going past him. He has been way off the pace and has looked shaky on and off the ball. City playing into our hands. We’re hitting them on the counter and they can’t handle us going forward. We just need to keep them at bay until we get another chance. We need another goal. All round it’s been as good as we could’ve hoped for. As the game goes on an extra body in midfield wouldn’t hurt once they start pressing us back into our half.

    Agree
And we need to get control of the ball a bit more.
Giving it away very cheaply at times.
Can’t allow them so much possession.

Great game, best first half of the season, everybody on their toes… Trent Alexander Arnold wow… what a player, he is redefining the rightback as a playmaker, what a transition in one player.
