Early, I know, but somebody had to do it. Can’t wait to see the new Liverpool in competitive action. There are a couple of questions about the line up due to the world cup. I’m guessing
TAA VVD ??? Robbo
Faby Naby ???
Sadio Bobby Mo
So who”s going to partner big Virg? and who’s the third midfielder? What about the bench? Any thoughts on the opponents? Strengths? Weaknesses?
I can’t remember looking forward to a season this much for decades. Allez!August 3, 2018 at 2:14 pm #1661471
With TAA returning late from the WC, I would guess that Clyne is more likely to get the RB berth. Not sure on the other CB…. on the basis of Matip getting an injury, Lovren very late back from WC (today), never too sure on Gomez and his best position, then could well be Klavan. In spite of him never really convincing the fans, Klopp never has a problem in slotting him in whenever others are missing. If Naby and Faby are in (both new boys), then think he’ll go for the stability of a reliable old-timer beside them i.e. MilnerAugust 3, 2018 at 2:25 pm #1661479
Good shout re Milner, and I think you’re probably right about Klavan too. You’d still hope that team would be too good for WHU with all due respectAugust 3, 2018 at 2:51 pm #1661490
I think klavan will partner Vvd and Gini will complete the midf trio.August 3, 2018 at 2:52 pm #1661491
Klavan vs arnautovic. Should we be worriedAugust 3, 2018 at 3:13 pm #1661500

I think Klavan will get the nod ahead of Gomez and it’ll be Milner alongside Naby and Fab.
Would love to see Shaqiri as the 10 tho with Keita and Fab behind and then the three musketeers up top. Just don’t think Klopp will risk the line up in the first league game and he’ll likely put Milner in the engine room.August 3, 2018 at 7:04 pm #1661550
Soooooo excited… I think Mili, Kaita, and Fabs in the middle with Shaqiri coming in seconf half would be amaxing. I would like to see Gomez partner big Virg., but it will most likely be Klavan the rest are kinda given..
What about D Studs he should also get some game tume considering amzing form right now….August 3, 2018 at 8:22 pm #1661571
Nice to have good options in midfield what a refreshing feeling. In fact nice to have options all over the pitch. Wasnt long ago we were debating Balotelli and that 35-year-old guy we bought from Southampton. Same goes for defence, it’s getting better all over the pitch. Well done Mr Klopp, I’m glad he is getting the patience he needs to overhaul this squad. I still think he needs another season after this to get it perfectly balanced and then we will see a properly balanced outfit.
Can we win the league this year? Its possible but we have to turn a lot of those draws that we had last season into wins.
As for the game I haven’t kept tabs on West Ham this summer, we should beat them but they may be a little fitter than us as not many of their players have been to the WC compared to us. It’s hard to give judgement on this game, because of WC players and new guys. Sometimes it can take a while to get players to gel. So if we lose or draw I will be disappointed but not angry and completely downbeat long term wise. What I love about Klopp is that he has that Alex Ferguson attitude (cough, spit) that if we lose we bounce back and go on long unbeaten runs. My prediction is 2-1 win.
Clyne – Klavan – VVD – Roberston
Fabinho – Milner – Keita
Mane – Firmino – SalahAugust 3, 2018 at 9:00 pm #1661580

Agree on the line up mwake; won’t be far off that.
I also agree that the game will be a close affair. West Ham have also improved their personnel. Wilshire, Diop, Anderson, Yarmolenko and Fabianski (one or two others too I believe).
It absolutely would not surprise me to see a draw from this but think we’ll edge it.August 5, 2018 at 10:44 am #1661862
Milly injury a worryAugust 5, 2018 at 10:54 am #1661864
Firstly let me say that this is a must win game for Liverpool, and I expect nothing less.
Secondly, West Ham are very dangerous with a new manager and several new players, Liverpool have to be very careful in this game. Conversely with so many new players, our opponents may not have gelled yet, but you never know.
As for the the team that will start, I think it will be the starting lineup from yesterday – except maybe Klavan instead of GomezAugust 5, 2018 at 8:34 pm #1662005
I expect to beat them comfortably. We have a much stronger squad. I don’t think West will be dangerous. Just go and and do what Klopp likes to do, be relentless with our pressing and our attacking. I expect that we will beat them by at least two goals.August 5, 2018 at 8:49 pm #1662008
We haven’t even kicked off the season and already we are having must win games.
I am feeling sorry for the hammers they will be bottom of the league on goal difference come SundayAugust 5, 2018 at 11:51 pm #1662026
More than confident we will win this game. The Hammers have improved & can’t be taken lightly but we have a hell of a team & I’d be very disappointed if we don’t get the 3 points. 2-0 to kick off the campaign. Lets get ready to rrrruuummmbbbbllleeee.August 6, 2018 at 10:55 am #1662158

West ham have to many players to integrate so early in the season so fully expect us to win

I actually don’t think fabhino will start. I think winji will
All our players look really sharp and fit and we are going into the season in great shapeAugust 6, 2018 at 4:51 pm #1662337
Sean, I am with you, Fab will start on the bench, and I also seem to be in the minority as I think Gomez will partner VVD.August 6, 2018 at 4:59 pm #1662338

My West Ham supporting neighbours tell me that they fully expect at least 3-0 to us but if we were to win by a bigger margin they won’t be inviting me to any more BBQ’s, I’m in a quandry I expect a bigger win that that but they do have good BBQ’s any suggestions folks?

I’m loving VVD, Keita and Roberston before we used to play teams and get bullied, not no more. Add in aggressive pressers Firminio and Mane and Shaqiri and we have character all over now.
What ever happens it will be an explosive first game I think!August 6, 2018 at 11:07 pm #1662443
I too will be disappointed if we don’t win convincingly. Let’s not beat around the bush, first game or not, we should be winning these.
