The whole team looked like they didnt want to be there or forgot how to play.
If its going to be better against Benfica, which i think it will be,its because of change of tactics, simple as that.October 15, 2017 at 8:33 pm #1545222It seems most agree we were poor yesterday and nobody bar De Gea had a remotely decent game. The result was probably the combination of poor performances, tactics and players missing through injury. Roll on Spurs and the Chelski. Cant complain with how the season has started but just hoping for some season defining big wins in big games that are needed on the way to the big prizes. By the way, is there a more crying self pitying bunch of self righteous cunts in the game than the scousers? After watching the build up and listening to their shite after the game i’m delighted its been 27 years since their last title. Roll on another 27 more!

I agree. I will say one thing though, for Utd v Liverpool to be shown last on MOTD which includes matches like Burnley v West Ham it’s an absolute disgrace and should never ever happen.
A point away at Liverpool is good but the risk of going for 3 at the expense of losing a point is surely the better way to go. Liverpool are not our rivals this season (or they shouldn’t be) so keeping the status quo between us in terms of points and protecting our 7 point lead is pointless especially when there is the opportunity to move 10 points clear of them and stay level with our main rivals City.
October 16, 2017 at 1:48 pm #1545517@manthistle – Do you think Mourinho really cares whether we’re last on MOTD though? He’s here to win trophies – simple as. Before Saturday we were averaging 3 goals a game and playing delightful football. We’re judging him and the squad too much based off of one away match against a top six rival. If we went to Brighton and played for a draw from the first minute it would have gotten a big negative comment and, in my opinion, rightfully so. But this is Liverpool after the international break – I expected nothing different and I’m glad we got out of there with a point, a clean sheet and no injuries. City have navigated two very difficult games (liverppol H and Chelsea A) with wins and congratulations to them however if we beat Liverpool 1-0 at Old Trafford in the most mind-numbingly boring game in history and City lose 4-3 in an epic at Anfield I’ll take that hands down, simply because we got a point more than City over the two games, and they are our challengers if we plan on winning the league this season.
The league won’t be won by picking up a surprise 3 points at Anfield or White Hart Lane of Stamford Bridge, the league will be won by beating the smaller teams consistently and navigating through the top six matches without losing momentum. This City team is up on cloud 9 at the moment in terms of momentum, but one game where they don’t have their shooting boots on and the opponents sneak a goal at the death and they’ve had it. We have to make sure that doesn’t happen to us and we’ll see good things from the team this year.
Cheers

Maybe you’ve forgotten what Manchester United are all about.
“We’re judging him and the squad too much based off of one away match against a top six rival”
It’s not just a one off though is it?
Here are Mourinho’s results since 2015 away at top 6 teams:
Spurs 3-5
Arsenal 0-0
City 0-3
Spurs 0-0
Liverpool 0-0
Chelsea 0-4
City 0-0
Arsenal 0-2
Spurs 1-2
Liverpool 0-0So from a possible 30 points away from home he’s won 5 points! Wow!
The mind boggles.
October 16, 2017 at 10:32 pm #1545758Well thats one opinion, sympathy and its certainly not mine. Football is the most beautiful ultimate game and has been played for centuries. The whole idea is to put the football in opponents goal. Its not about defending the own goal with 10 men, thats antifootball and i rather watch paint dry than seeing your favourite club playing anti football. This is not The Red Devils way to play the game. Its not even worthy of a relegation side to play that defensive. Its not fun to watch and its not fun for the players,Lukaku looked very frustrated he was totally isolated from the rest.
I know the best way to destroy Klopp´s tactic is to sit back but where the hell was the counter attack? Dont we have the players to counter Liverpool or were we so totally outplayed that we couldnt string three passes together. Is it the players or the tacic?
October 16, 2017 at 10:34 pm #1545759Which tactics do you think he will use against spurs?
October 16, 2017 at 11:10 pm #1545767Interesting question Scholsey. The general consensus in here is when we play the big six away we park the bus and hope to get 0-0 with DeGea on his toes.
We play Spurs 28th this month at home so i guess its not the same tactic unless we score early and Spurs take possession of the game.
Maybe its just against Liverpool he use this antifootball because of Klopp?October 17, 2017 at 1:15 am #1545778@manthistle – Maybe you’ve forgotten what Manchester United are all about.
Did you forget how we used to play away at Liverpool during Fergie’s reign? I would like to know how many goals we scored away at Liverpool when Fergie was in charge. Happy with the draw away at Liverpool to be honest. We played **** and still Liverpool couldn’t score past us. Just need to look at what happened to Arsenal when they went to Anfield and were far too open. If the rest of the top 6 all go to Anfield and win this season then fair enough we have dropped points to the others but I really can’t see that happening.
Here are Mourinho’s results since 2015 away at top 6 teams. It doesn’t make sense you chose to mention Mourinho’s results since 2015? And where is Man Utd?
Let’s see Mourinho’s results since his second stint in charge at Chelsea (2013/14)
2013/14 (P5, W2, D3, L0)
Liverpool 0 – 2 Chelsea
Man City 0 – 1 Chelsea
Arsenal 0 – 0 Chelsea
Tottenham 1 – 1 Chelsea
Man Utd 0 – 0 Chelsea2014/15 (P5, W1, D3, L1)
Liverpool 1 – 2 Chelsea
Man City 1 – 1 Chelsea
Arsenal 0 – 0 Chelsea
Tottenham 5 – 3 Chelsea
Man Utd 1 – 1 Chelsea2015/16 (P2, W0, D1, L1)
Man City 3 – 0 Chelsea
Tottenham 0 – 0 Chelsea2016/17 (P5, W0, D2, L3)
Chelsea 4 – 0 Man Utd
Liverpool 0 – 0 Man Utd
Man City 0 – 0 Man Utd
Arsenal 2 – 0 Man Utd
Tottenham 2 – 1 Man UtdIn 2015/16 season, Mourinho lost support within the Chelsea squad after his bust-up with former club doctor Carneiro during the 2-2 draw with Swansea on the opening day of the season. As a result, Chelsea lost games left, right and centre.. even at home against average opposition (Chelsea 1-2 Palace; Chelsea 1-3 Southampton; Chelsea 1-3 Liverpool; Chelsea 0-1 Bournemouth) and he was sacked in December.
In 2016/17, we played Arsenal and Tottenham in May (7th & 14th) and Jose fielded a second rate team against them because he was concentrating on winning the Europa League. No wonder even Wenger won his first competitive PL game against Mourinho at the 15th time of asking 😉
In conclusion, Mourinho record against the top 6 teams away is impressive to say the least.
October 17, 2017 at 8:50 am #1545837@zico and Manthistle – I’d love it if we played the attacking football we did under Fergie week in week out even against the big teams however, in my personal opinion, I don’t think our squad is there yet. Before Saturday we were averaging 3 goals a game which I don’t think anyone can call boring. Personally I don’t care much about our away record against the Top Six teams; whilst it’s an excellent feeling beating any of them away from home I’d much rather share the points at their ground rather than go at it and lost in an enthralling 3-2.
If for 5 out of 38 matches of the season United play the most boring football and we win the league, I’ll take that.
October 17, 2017 at 8:53 am #1545838TMA – I think I put it on another thread. Fergie scored 13 goals in his last 16 visits to Anfield!
But that was obviously when he was dominating the league playing total football and winning 5-0 every week. Plus he was clearly beating all the top sides home and away every season. 😂🤔October 17, 2017 at 12:27 pm #1545957happyhurling – The result is not the issue. It’s the manner of the result that I am criticising. When Fergie went to anfield he didn’t park the bus. Yes, he played more defensive and rightly so but we would play on the counter and we would at least try to score. On saturday we didn’t even try and get a winner. When O’Shea scored the last minute winner it was a smash and grab but we at least sent men forward in the final stages trying to nick a win. Mourinho brought on Lindelof in the 92nd minute FFS to secure a point. Even Rio was livid on Twitter at that substitution.
Records will show that we went to Anfield and got a point which in the grand scheme of things is a good point earned. I’m not saying we should have gone and opened up because that’s what Arsenal did and we saw what happened to them but Liverpool aren’t Real Madrid or Barcelona or even City for that matter. They’re 7 points behind us, playing shit with their star player injured.
Also, it’s all good and well drawing away and winning at home against your rivals but what if you don’t win your home game a la City and Liverpool last season?
Mourinho has sorted out getting maximum points from the lesser teams but he needs to change his philosophy against the bigger teams. With the pace in the team on Saturday (Valencia, Young, Mkhitaryan, Lukaku, Martial) and the physically strong defensive unit (de Gea, Jones, Smalling, Matic) we had the tools to play the counter attack without over exposing ourselves.
If we play like that against Spurs they’ll punish us with their attacking prowess.
October 17, 2017 at 12:53 pm #1545969Manthistle i dont think there is any point complaining about the approach on Saturday. This is Jose all over he is not going to change – even if he had messi and neymar in the side he would still go to anfield with the same approach.
The most surprising thing for me is we have 10 pages on this thread – did people actually think we would do anything different on Satursday? It will be exactly the same when we go to city, arsenal, chelsea spurs and probably even Everton, Watford. Our approach will be exactly the same.
Dont get me wrong i am with you manthistle but i have come to accept this is how we play football against any top team away from home. Its not going to change because Jose is not going to change. In the past he has been successful no doubt and has the trophies to back it up. My fear is football has changed since he won it with Chelsea.
To win the league you need to go to your rivals and make a statement. Chelsea went to city last year and beat them, Leicester the year before. This year city have gone to the champions and literally played them off the park without changing the style or approach. If we seriously want to win the league this year, next year or the year after, Jose has to change his mindset, otherwise the best we can hope for is a top 3 finish. Thats just mu opinion hope i am wrong, time will tell
October 17, 2017 at 2:24 pm #1546038Those people still whinging on three days after the event might as well save their collective breath because Mourinho ain’t changing tactics anytime soon, especially with this group of players whom it is clear he still doesn’t trust 100% to deliver when the chips are down, and who can blame him?.
Just look how we played at Stoke and Southampton when we were put under pressure for the only other times this season and you will get your answer as to how things were likely to pan out at Anfield, especially without Pogba and Bailly.
Fact is,whilst we have some very good players at Old Trafford we haven’t got enough really top players in our squad who can be relied on to deliver in the biggest of games week after week.Added to that there is still far too many who shouldn’t even be working at the club selling pies and programs, never mind being picked to play at Anfield or coming on as the first sub during that game.
Some of us were saying all summer that we needed to do more and strengthen more areas of the squad than we ended up doing and I’m afraid you reap what you sow as far as that’s concerned.
I can at least see decent progress for the first time in a good few years and for now I will be happy with that and a top 3 finish and maybe a decent run to the ECL quarter finals. That’s just about as much as this squad is capable of for now, simple as that.October 17, 2017 at 2:39 pm #1546048So all of a sudden we drop points at Liverpool and we’re not good enough to win the league? Jose is the enemy of football and doomsday is upon us…. Good grief some on here need to lighten up.
I seem to distinctly remember Chelsea losing at Arsenal last season while City were tearing the league up. Guess who the reigning PL champions are? Personally I am not bothered about how we fared at Anfield, we didn’t lose and Liverpool weren’t as good as some on here, and the pundits claim they were. They are not a top 6 rival and beating them shouldn’t be a benchmark to PL success. We’re 9 games into the season and we haven’t lost a game to date. Bigger tests lie ahead and I am sure we will nick wins against our title rivals.October 17, 2017 at 3:51 pm #1546089@OT Fax – There’s no “all of a sudden” about it mate,my aspirations for this season were always as I stated above, check my post history if you need confirmation.I didn’t need to watch us struggle so badly to even do the basics half right at Anfield to come to that conclusion.
We just haven’t got enough of the quality in the squad that is needed to mix it with the big boys over a long season I’m afraid, simple as that.October 17, 2017 at 3:56 pm #1546093@OT Fax-Liverpool are a top 6 team rival,Leicester City won the title couple of years ago,any of City,United,Spurs,Arsenal,Chelsea, and Liverpool can win the title-obviously there will be only one team celebrating @ the end of the season, and Liverpool could be that team.
October 17, 2017 at 5:08 pm #1546123“Has he been told that two bore draws at Anfield is not what is expected of a Utd manager? 😉 I think its just sunk in the crazy £££ available to City and how far behind we are at the moment with little prospect of catching up anytime soon. His ego just won’t allow him to be second best to Pep. Guaranteed yearly success and almost limitless funds at PSG very attractive to him no doubt…”-lol.
