The 4-2-3-1 system has worked well for us this season but I can still see Mourinho going with 3 at the back against Liverpool. He’s usually very cautious in big away games and with Matic and Herrera being the only senior midfielders available it wouldn’t surprise me if he threw Smalling in at the back for added protection as well as added height to try to exploit Liverpool’s weaknesses at set pieces. It’ll be another cagey match and Anfield but I’m hoping Mourinho will resist the temptation of playing the likes of Rashford, Martial, Mkhitaryan or Lingard (who’s sadly always likely to get the nod in big away matches) as extra wing-backs in a six or seven at the back formation. Liverpool’s defense is notoriously shaky and we need to get at them by showing the same ruthlessness as we’ve done time and again this season.
