Despite there are a lot of football teams in London, Chelsea are the only London team to have won the Champions League. Chelsea have won it even twice :).

Luckydestiny: nobody wanted to see a legend like Lampard to end like that but at the end of the day we can see how experience is important. Arsenal can afford ups and downs with Arteta, but at Chelsea under Abramovich: managers (and players) come and go. But the club has to win trophies. Lampard’s tenure (or transfer ban, either way) gave us something good and very essential for our current and future team: young players. Morever: British players. Chelsea under Abramovich and even before (since Gullit I think) were synonim to a strong team assembled by foreign players. Not anymore !!

I don’t follow news about Lampard, what he does now, but I am really disappointed that he hasn’t got a manager job again yet after Chelsea. I really hope he will come back to coaching by taking a smaller club in Premier League or Championship (or in Scotland like Gerrard, anywhere!!) to gain experience and come back one day to manage Chelsea again.

Aindro, I loved Frank and wanted us to give him at least to the end of the season but in retrospect it was the right decision and we were very lucky to get Tuchel and look what happened.😊

Like you I would like to see Frank back managing and sooner rather than later.

nine, indeed. I think we all love Lampard. What he did as a Chelsea player will be really difficult to match. I don’t think we will see another player like Lampard. But it could happen. I was a big fan of Makelele. He has a position named after him: Makelele’s role. And I thought there would never be another player like him. But I was wrong. There’s now N’Golo Kante. 🙂

As a manager, he did a lot to Chelsea too. One mistake for me: he did not win the FA Cup final. Had he won that, he would have stayed longer I believe as Abramovich would be convinced that he was a winner. But … he lost the play off final with Derby, and he lost the FA Cup final with Chelsea. Anyway no point to compare, I think every Chelsea fan is behind Tuchel after what he’s done to the team. I just hope we will see Lampard again as Chelsea manager one day. That he doesn’t give up.

Good news about Chalobah. Apart Rudiger & Christensen, we need Azpi to sign too !!

Balanced views from the majority on here and I second that I wouldn’t ever want to see Mourinho or Conte manage Chelsea again. Too much baggage both of them however forever grateful for their achievements at the club and would never go as far as trashing them which is where the absolute minority like to go publicly. Those thoughts are best kept to one’s self as they are guaranteed to get an unsavoury reaction from the hardened Chelsea supporter for want of a better word..

I’d be surprised with Rudiger if it was just a money issue. I have a feeling there might be a bit more to it like a lifestyle choice, family needs, different country, something like that. Do we know for certain he is just holding out for a fatter wallet?

67, it seems to be money

“It has now been revealed that Chelsea are currently only prepared to offer Rudiger no more than £150,000-a-week. He wants around £50,000-a-week more.”

    https://www.si.com/soccer/chelsea/news/report-chelseas-stance-in-antonio-rudigers-contract-demands-revealed

Now these are just reports and no idea if true but I think our top earners are on the 200k mark so if true I am surprised we haven’t offered him that considering his importance.

Agree Lucky. he has to rank right up there at the top of the list with our best and most important and if we want to remain rock solid at the back and therefore bw a massive chance of winning trophies then in their language the extra coin is well worth it.

Assuming the article is accurate and Rudiger wants £200k pw and Chelsea have offered £150k pw and as Rudiger is on record as saying he’s very happy at Chelsea you would think the two sides could come to a sensible agreement?

Real, Bayern and PSG will all be offering a lot more than £200k though as no transfer fee will be involved and I can understand the draw for Rudiger of returning home to the top side in Germany and one of the best in Europe and playing in Spain for an iconic Club like Real.

    Not over yet though.🤞🤞🤞

we don’t know true numbers, maybe the club have offered him 200k and he actually wants 250k it’s just reports.

But if he did want 200k per week, that’s 10.4m a year, even at 4 Yr contract that’s 41.6m seems much cheaper than buying a new defender which is why other clubs are sniffing around in first place.

Must be more than meets the eye on this one.

Nine but he out of contract with us in May too so we in same boat as bayern then aren’t we? Top class defender, no transfer fee? As opposed to buying a new one.

He just be asking us to break our wage structure for us to be refusing him what he wants, that is all I can conclude right now.

    Still hoping though 😀

There has to be a wage structure Lucky if the likes of Lukaku and Kante are on circa £200k pw then I think we should pay Rudiger that because he’s just as important to the team but if PSG or Real are prepared to pay him £300k pw we should walk away.

Historically players available on a free transfer can negotiate higher wages because no fee is involved ie Aaron Ramsey to Juve allegedly on £300k pw which although Arsenal wanted to retain him they couldn’t match I think we’re in the same boat if somebody offers silly money to Rudiger too.

I agree nine, completely with first part 👍

But if psg or bayern can offer him more its because they don’t have same wage constraints or wage structure, we would have to buy to replace him so in that regard resigning rudiger would be just as much a free signing for us as anyone else

I think there’s a real danger that players running down their contract will become the norm. To be honest, if you knew you could double your wages just by seeing your contract out, why wouldn’t you? I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more.

Regarding Rudiger, I’m a little disappointed in him as the majority of his time at Chelsea has been no more than average. It’s only really since Tuchel came in we’ve seen the best of him. Now he wants to use his new found status and current form to engineer a move or massive pay rise. I would hope for a little gratitude / loyalty.

Lucky , yeah I got that first time around.😊 And I completely understand where you’re coming from.

But Chelsea won’t break their wage structure because to pay Rudiger say £100k more than anyone else would cause all sorts of problems.

Like you said in your earlier post we’re all guessing currently let’s wait and see what eventually transpires.

Yeah nine it’s all down to our wage budget and our wage structure relative to the other major teams and what we all willing to offer for him.
