I don’t have much enthusiasm (or optimism) going into this game as the last two results have been a major kick in the bollocks. Desperately needed 6 points from the Leeds and Newcastle games to offset more dropped points here.

I simply don’t trust the team to play consistently over 90 mins and thoroughly expect the same scenario Sunday.

The only (and only) outside chance of us actually getting something is that a) we now absolutely need 3 points b) United play their Europa Semi 3 days before this game and c) we haven’t lost there since March of 2018.

But United have only lost once at home in the League in 6 months and head into this fixture unbeaten in the league for 3 months.

The last time we played at Old Trafford in the League was 18 months ago when Rashford (who will score Sunday) put them one up at half time but Lallana struck late to share the points (Lallana’s last goal for us and only one of two goals he’s scored in the last four and half years). We neutralised United that day to just two shots on target but of course they nearly ended up winning it with one of those going in.

Our Premier League record at United is crap. P28 W5 D7 L16 is our record there in the PL. 82% of the time we don’t win there.

One win in our last 12 visits since the Torres and Gerrard show back in 2009.

Starting XI: Alisson, Trent, Kabak, Phillips, Robbo, Thiago, Milner, Fabinho, Mane, Jota and Mo. I want Gini and Bobby dropped as both did absolutely eff all in the Newcastle game, nothing, but both likely will start as we like to be predictable. If Phillips isn’t fit give Davies a baptism of fire. We won three straight League games with Fab back in mid; we then move him back to central defence for the last two games and we drop points.

Would love to see this in a 4231 with Milner and Fabinho as the pivot, Thiago as the 10, Shaq out right, Mo up top and Jota left. Something bastard different.

This is a shit or bust game now as all our neighbours have extremely winnable games this weekend so why the hell not ‘go for it.’ I don’t mind losing as long as we go down fighting but….

…..Fernandes, Greenwood and Rashford (4 goals in the last 4 games at OT against us) will enjoy Sunday and this has a 2-0 home win written all over it (Rashford and Fernandes free kick or penalty).

Absolutely no optimism coming into tvis either rob

An absolutely abomination of a season. Can’t actually get over how poor we have been and some of the bizarre decisions jurgen keeps making.

Persisting with that high line when the press is non existent and we are caught out tone after time after time. It’s torture to watch

Fabhino centre back and results go backwards. Look how Chelsea pressed real last night. Either we don’t give a fuck or they all think they are stars after last season

So many players out of form. Utd win all day long. Get tvis seadon over abd done with

Like ye, I’ve little enthusiasm for this now but I think it’ll come. I certainly hope it will anyway but I too just do not trust the team to be able to win the remaining games. I think Klopp and FSG have got a tough task at getting those who are no longer interested in this project, out of it. If they don’t succeed in this coming window, it could spell the end for this phase. So far, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s all over but look at Man City, they are proof that you can rebound without wholesale changes and there are more reasons than usual for our own loss of momentum.

As for things now, I’m just waiting for the summer. This seaosn is over.

Sean – I actually think its the opposite to them thinking they’re stars after last season. Winning the title behind closed doors with no adoration must have been quite a bitter pill for the players to swallow. Not excusing this explosive nappy of a season mind.

    Yup Harry.
They absolutely busted their balls last season to win the league and never got to celebrate it with the fans. No parade, no open top bus, no chance for the fans to sing their praises during games this season.

Ginger – Yeah all of that. Certainly seems to be a bit of whats the pointism from the team this season. Our fans will know how to make a decent song about us winning the title and taking a year off. We need them back more than any signing you can think of. God bless all of you match goers

Like I could not be bothered about the champions league this season, watching a game at Anfield without the fans there just made me depressed

Not getting to win it in front of the fans etc etc is obviously far from ideal but if you ask me, there are other covid related and also other entirely different reasons why we have flopped this season.

    1) The covid break came when we were so far ahead that when a break came, we stopped running but everyone else had something to play for when it came back. We didnt.

    2) We had won it all in our project with Klopp, so the normal motivational issues that every PL champion has had to go through and usually failed..

    3) We didnt address player contracts (Gini Wijnaldum). he went into this season with either a move, or disillusionment in mind. he was incredibly important in our CL and PL wins and he either feels more valued than they think he is, or he wants to leave and it should have been resolved, one way or the other.

    4) Our transfer policy with regards to the defence was catastrophic.

    5) Klopp’s mothers long illness and death has definitely played a part. For a while there he looked so defeated, I was worried about him, on a personal level.

    6) Klopp has made a lot of mistakes this season. I know I typed this after the other thing that impacted him personally, for a reason. I think it affected his judgment.

Off the top of my head , I cant think of others but I will probably be kicking myself after and feel free to add to that list lads. I think that while our rival supporters will ,enjoy our fall from grace, they’ll admit that things went against us this season, genuinely.

if you offered me this exact situation 5 years ago or whenever it was that Klopp said that we have to turn doubters into believers, I’d have taken it. We were the best team on the planet, we had won the major trophies and without the downs, you can’t have the ups. City will treasure their PL win this season more because of last year. Hopefully we can rebound in a manner that gives us a title challenge next season. Utd are climbing all the time, Chelsea are starting to look like a high level Rafa team now. It wont be easy but would you doubt this man on the whole?

That’s a good question there though. There have been times to doubt Klopp this season. He’s human, he has and will make mistakes. There definitely are question marks over many things this term but the man is a genius and he will come storming back next season.

Klopp’s Liverpool is the best football I’ve seen from any team. Pep would be second but you’d have to say, Pep’s comeback is so worthy of respect and admiration. Money is only potential. you make of it what you have to make.

I actually agree to what MrMak’s say on the performance thus so far this season. Just a bunch of compounding factors aggravating one another which simply make this season unbearable to watch. Lack of fans and var are only part of the problem and why bother worrying about things that we cannot change. Instead we should contemplate on what we can improve on and focus on them, such as getting the right players for problematic positions and at the right price.

As for the next game, not going to add in more negative vibes but all I hope is that the players play like they give a fuck about the club and the fans. Win, draw or lose does not really matter to me anymore.

Mr Mak, I agree with all of those points you make but I think you are missing one very important one. Klopp’s tactics are unsustainable physically on a team without constant refreshment. It is a high octane physically draining system. If you either get a number of injuries in the same position (like you have) or you do not have a depth of squad sufficient to refresh exhaustion then that system will catch you out. Given both of those factors, if you do not address them head on then the only answer is to change the system and rationalise a bit, something Klopp seems completely unwilling to do.

I’d also like to add on that they took it easy in a lot of games after winning the title and were clearly complacent and Klopp didn’t nip it in the bud last season itself. I think Trent went so far as saying so. We lost momentum going into this season, especially away from home. On the other hand, every team we came up against were playing a lot harder trying to nick something off us while our foot was off the gas. Our game management went to shit after VVD’s injury. Injuries are 1 thing, not trusting your fringe players is another. We would not have lost 6 in a row at home if Phillips had been playing alongside Kabak since the start of January and Matip had been allowed the time to recover between games. Fabinho & Henderson were clearly needed in midfield. We had enough good players on paper, but Klopp didn’t trust any other players other than his regulars, which I think has also led to a decrease in motivation amongst most of the fringe players. Off form players were continually allowed to remain off form instead of someone else getting a chance and still are.

Ye agree with that razor. Winjildium keeps starting when he is clearly exhausted and not adding much to the team

Why did we buy tsimkas and davies? Robbo has barely had a rest.

The play is so slow and I really think that is because of fans. It’s just so lethargic at times

Bizarre subs at strange times. Jurgen said we needed someone to keep the ball againest Newcastle yet he had taken thisgo off?

Bobby was having his best game v villa in while was whipped off.

I believe we can bounce back next season but there will be no cl and extra games in the el

We need to get people out and a few in in the summer. Jurgen has more then enough credit for a major bad spell and we move after this disaster of a season

I am really confident we can win this game, but only if Fabinho does not play in defence, playing him there has actually been Klopp’s achilles heel for most of this season.

Despite all the catastrophic injuries and tragedies that have happened to Liverpool this season, we simply cannot focus on negativity and give up, and this is a best time as any to get back on track

It looks almost certain that City will win the champions league this year, just to add to their many other trophies in all the key competitions, embaressing and sickening. The same as LFC and MUFC in their prime domination and success is built around engaging with and winning ALL competitions not just one or two. Sadly that’s been abandoned by FSG who only allow part-time success for their product and increasingly humiliated manager. This summer offers a final chance to build a real squad which can compete everywhere, but don’t hold your breath. Expect more of the same with sell to buy, lower level players with potential and no doubt JHenry has already been letting the much bigger clubs know whose available
