Well, the big ‘un is here. Despite United’s current status this is still the biggest fixture in the Premier League.
Last season’s encounter was one to forget though. Utter rubbish. Two thirds possession yielding one shot on target in 90 minutes. Tom Tit. We should’ve done what City did to them at OT two months later; toyed with them and then finished them off. Despite us retaining top spot following that game Klopp did indicate it was a missed opportunity. Yep, it sure was!
Our last win there was five and a half years ago when Stevie grabbed two and Luis scored late on. Since then we’ve played them 5 times with 2 draws and 3 defeats scoring just 3 goals. In fact we’ve won only 2 out of the last 18 visits to OT drawing 3 and losing 15. Kin ell.
I dread this game even with United’s current form. You just know all Ole’s injured players will be back and they will go out and try to stifle us again with Young doing his usual number of Salah (he needs to start showing up at the big grounds).
I don’t think this line-up will be far off:
Adrian, Trent, VVD, Matip, Robbo, Fab, Gini, Milner, Mo, Bobby and Mane.
Five out of the last seven meetings in all comps have ended in a draw and I think Sunday will make it 6 from 8. 1-1.October 14, 2019 at 6:00 pm #1791156

Totally agree about salah rob. We need him
To step up in these horrible games
Hate that we are strong favourites as we just don’t show up there.
Not optimistic at all and just can’t see us winning.
Doesn’t matter what side they have. We should be going there and winning easily enough but it’s going to a horrible game
Not sure if bringing Alison back for this game is the right call as he will be rusty.October 14, 2019 at 6:32 pm #1791162
They’ll park the bus again. But i just have a feeling this time they’re just too shite to get away with another draw. 2-0 win to us.October 16, 2019 at 6:04 am #1791449
For the first time in a long time this is the most confident I have felt but at the same time, I think we are due a loss considering the luck we have had in some games. My heart says 2-0 win but my head says 2-2 draw.October 16, 2019 at 6:43 am #1791451
Its the perfect game for utd now. Theyll park the bus knowing we will attack. And that will suit Ole’s counter attacking game nicely. I said we’ll win 2-0 but apparently theyll have pogba n martial back…so im predicting a 1-1 draw.October 16, 2019 at 6:54 am #1791453
I was just thinking even in our shittiest of times when we had the likes of poulsen, konchesky, vignal, voronin etc…..i never EVER remember us parking the bus against Utd at Anfield and just playing on the counter.
If any of our manager had tried it would be unacceptable to us fans i think. I would be embarassed if we ever did that. And yet utd fans now seems to accept their team playing that boring park the bus football even at homeOctober 16, 2019 at 8:57 am #1791486
Did Hodgson last long enough to park the bus against united? I don’t remember..October 16, 2019 at 10:03 am #1791507

We lost 3-2 away with hodgson in charge
We need to go there and perform
These are at their lowest and there should be no excuse for not winning
We need our best players to turn upOctober 16, 2019 at 12:47 pm #1791562
DDG could be put, huge blow for them.October 16, 2019 at 2:27 pm #1791595
They have a bunch of players who either would be coming back from injury or would still be injured. I’d go with Adrian as he’s the sharper keeper right now and give Alisson the midweek game to get up to speed before we face the Spuds. This time we have to go for the 3 points. Last season’s game was way too cagey with both sides waiting for something to happen. If we score first I think that would be that. United have been awful playing on the front foot. I’d say 2-0 if we can get the first goal, but knowing them it will probably be 0-0 again.October 16, 2019 at 3:23 pm #1791619
Many, many, many reasons why this result is never a slam dunk whoever is the form team. Absolutely the same with Everton (as we will find out in March – just watch, they’ll sack Silva the week before that game….but I don’t think he’s long for that job).
First up, it’s a Derby so owt can happen and I mean anything. We went there 5.5 years ago with United expected to win and blow em away (our only win there this decade).
Second, US. We have a nasty habit of ballsing it up when going to grounds like OT and GP as expected winners. For some bizarre reason we bounce in these stadiums and then don’t perform to the levels we should to get the points. Salah in particular must step it up Sunday. He hasn’t scored against United yet and only scored against Everton once (1 goal in 9 games total). You know OGS will put Young on him again so it’s important Trent provides an outlet for him Sunday.
United also, believe it or not, have the best defensive record for fewest chances conceded. Yep, not kidding, so they will sit deep and try and counter us with Martial (guaranteed will be fit) and James (who I like) and put pressure on Trent’s side (my worry….as always).
I don’t give a shit whether De Gea is out, Maguire is out, Pogba’s out, Stapleton’s out, McIlroy’s out or even bastard Paul Ince it’s United and no matter how bad they are it won’t be worth a jot on Sunday.
Sticking with me 1-1 so there.October 16, 2019 at 3:37 pm #1791622
No one said you were wrong though.. We already know how they’re going to set up. However, if they can step up for a derby then we sure as hell can too. I don’t care how many chances they’ve conceded, we’ve still conceded less goals than them and scored way more.
I will always take heart from the 4-1 win at Old Trafford 10 years ago. Look on the bright side, even if they do take the 3 points we’re still 5 points clear after 9 games which is something no one would have expected at the start of the season.October 16, 2019 at 4:07 pm #1791639
Even if we lose, we get the satisfaction of helping them keep a manager that most of their fan base want rid off…over at Redcafe theres some saying there is the silver lining of Ole getting the sack if they lose and some even hoping for us to batter them lol 🙂
On a different note, good to see some players got a restOctober 16, 2019 at 6:33 pm #1791678
Playing on Sunday too I believe so that’s an extra day. Might have an impact on the genk game but Spuds the following week are also on Sunday. This run doesn’t seem so bad timing wise.October 17, 2019 at 6:56 pm #1791890
How do we play this game guys, go for the juggluar or play a little cagey? I say play smart, we dont need to be wasteful in possession as I have witnessed us at points this season. Midfield is going to be a key area and keeping the ball away from James, Martial and Rashford. Mctominiy is probably their best player at the moment so winning the midfield is going to be key. If we can do what we normally do and slot those balls into our front three consistenly then we win, no question. But as I said earlier our Achilles heel at times this season has been more than usual sloppy passing this season, I never noticed it that badly last season. This is part of the reason why everyone is commmentating that we havent really been at our brillaint best so far even though we have won every game, if we can cut that out then, then United dont stand a chance, maybe Allison and Matip being back will defintely help that. Adrian has been awesome but Allisons distribution and sweeper keeper is no match.October 17, 2019 at 7:38 pm #1791904
mwake, we went cagey last season and came away with a very uninspiring point (they were there for the taking). Folks have pointed out (and I agree) that the reason City won it last season is they were a little more brave in certain games that were close. This fixture last season was a prime example. A little more adventure and tempo could have resulted in, what would eventually prove to be, a vital three points. I think we should really test them early on as they will likely instantly sit back. Grab an early goal and then play keep ball until the opportunity arises to snatch a second.October 20, 2019 at 3:35 am #1792337
I say we’ll come out flying for the first 15-20 minutes and then settle the game down. Just before half time, especially if we’re level, we’ll turn it back on to get a goal. 2nd half I think it will the same pattern regardless of what the score is and towards the end of the game we’ll be trying to hit on the counter. We need to force them onto the front foot and hit them on the break and the only way that’s going to happen is if we score.October 20, 2019 at 8:01 am #1792340
We need to go in hard from the start as this United team will be up for it however their morale is quite low so if we can score early it will bode well as their heads may drop – the longer it is goalless the more United will improve IMO so lets hope Salah scores within 10 minutes so United will have to attack which will be in our favourOctober 20, 2019 at 10:10 am #1792364
Feel the CL win last season has lifted a weight off players shoulders. That’s why I think we are going to get a good result today. Players have been talking about the reception they got when they returned from Madrid and want to experience that again. I’m sure that’s not just some airy talk but that they are aware of what was lacking last season in some games, and have taken steps to avoid the two large banana skins Goodison and Old Trafford.
Can’t remember a game recently where the opponent dominated us apart from patches against City, even Barca were on the rope despite their 3-0 win at the Camp Nou. Even if their players are motivated at 100% they are in for a torrid afternoon.
Only silver lining for them is a refereeing mistake.October 20, 2019 at 3:34 pm #1792419
Alisson and Matip starts but Salah out.
