379 minutes since we last conceded a goal in the league (6.3 hours). The hardest part of coaching is always stopping the other team from scoring and we’ve managed to do that and keep the number of shots faced down too in that time. Positive.

Despite that tho, we still look dysfunctional in attack. Maybe that part will click Sunday. Bloody hope so.

Sticking with the team I posted yesterday:

Alisson, Trent, Konate, VVD, Robbo, Fabinho, Henderson, Bajetic, Nunez, Gapko and Mo.

Since their 6-3 loss at City back in early October, United went on to win 25 from their next 32 games in all comps. They have found a balance. Scoring and not letting too many in although they have conceded in quite a number of games this season (just two cleans sheets in the league this year).

United can be got at but it but the teams that have had success have packed midfield. We won’t do that. We will 433 this.

United looking to do their first double against us since the 15/16 season following their 2-1 success at OT earlier in the season. Last season we ran out joyous 4-0 winners with goals from Diaz, Mo (2) and Mane.

I have no idea how this game will go. It’s all gonna be on 1v1 matchups and getting that right. I cannot see this game having many goals and 3 pts would be immense for us (for top four and confidence). Newcastle travel to City (nowt for the skunks there), Brighton have a tricky home tie v West Ham, Spurs also a tricky trip to Wolves and Brentford entertain Fulham at home so dropped points for sure in that lot somewhere. A win for us and we’re right behind fourth place Spurs with a game in hand.

Problem is I see us dropping points too. If we continue our defensive improvement then we’ll get a draw but worried about Rashford and our high line, worried about our full backs, worried about lack of creativity in mid (wouldn’t be if our fulls are playing well but they ain’t), worried about Mo’s constant profligacy on the ball & the ensuing counters and therefore cannot see anything past an away win here. I can’t. 2-1 United.

You get this thread in early there Rob, just shows you the seriousness of this match.

Well, it’s gonna be a showdown, and with the Anfield crowd behind us we really should emerge as winners.

The key to wining here is to play to our strengths, thus use the pace and power of Nuñez and Gakpo to cause endless havoc, while keeping our midfield tight and compact. And in defence, hit them hard, but no more silly errors. I have a feeling Klopp may start Elliott or Jota, so we’ll see.

Our opponents have several top players, and if we are complacent even for one second, we will be punished, so we have to be on point from start to finish.

    Alisson
    Trent Konaté Van Dijk Robbo
    Bajcetic Fabinho Henderson
    Salah Gakpo Nuñez

Considering their form this season and our form I’d take a draw. If we were in their shoes we’d be licking our lips at this prospect.
Having said that we have the potential to massively raise our level for 1 off games.
Our new front line are still gelling but still capable of causing any defence problems.
I’m imaging a team along the lines of…
    Allison
    TAA, Konate, VVD, Robbo
    Hendo, Fabinho, Bajetic
    Salah, Gakpo, Nunez

Although we’ll know more after Klopps presser.
My biggest concerns are their speed in behind our high line and Rashford up against Trent/Konate.

As mentioned on other thread we had 15 games to amass approx 33 points.
That’s now down to 14 games and 30 points.
While the full 3 points are ideal, I’d take any points from this game and then move onto Bournemouth. A draw here, all things considered is not a bad result.

We are Liverpool, we play to win, especially at Anfield.

Absolutely go with that team lads. Hendo to help out againest Rashford and konate covering behind. Fabhino played well last night and so did vvd and konate and they didn’t get a sniff. It’s the most solid we looked. I just hope we don’t stick with the team last night as Klopp usually sticks with a winning team

Hendo, gakpo and robbo have to come in. I think it will be a draw. Very low scoring game. If we win this I can really see us finishing the season strong

What do you guys make of gakpo? Did well last night when he came on and is getting better by the gane. Plays the nine role very well. We have some really good options up front now and that’s why I’d met bobby go.

Sean, I guess he’s a replacement for Bobby already. It is best to replace players before you let them go.
I think he’s a good player who will become more effective. He seems to be smart enough and has a quick turn of pace when he’s confident. I think we’ll see more of it when he settles in properly.

I say this now having missed last nights match , unfortunately.

For all Utds good form this season they’ve scored only 1 more goal than us and have conceded the same.
City have only conceded 3 less for all our defensive woes.

That 9-0 heavily skewed things in our favor though. Without that game, we’d be at +3 GD for the season. Also they have the points on the board because they could grind a few more results with the way their goals were spread. 4 clean sheets on the bounce have helped but we’re still over a goal a game conceded on average.

And Utd have several 3-0 wins which helps their cause.

So the fact that we’re 10 points behind Utd and 16 behind City means nothing?

“City have only conceded 3 less for all our defensive woes.”
Which is why Haaland will be on a plane out of Manchester this summer.

Interesting about the goal difference regards Utd though. I’d have assumed they were doing so much better.

True Razor but we did still score those 9 goals. Absolutely, they would be more valuable if we spread them out over a few games, then we wouldnt be in such a pickle but we can’t just discount them. If anything they show us what we can be on our day, which is a good segue to the point I came on here to make.

You know how usually, we’d be looking at Utd matches, as a team playing poorly who will raise their game for us? Well, at least for this season, those roles are reversed.

If I’m wrong then fair enough, maybe we’ll get destroyed and it’ll be the most epic humbling of this great team ever but… I think we’ll beat Utd. I don’t want to guess on a scoreline, but I can see us getting all 3 points… although, I think Nunez being fit enough to start is vital.

Whether I’m right or wrong, I’m just not afraid of this fixture now. I would have been in seasons where we were chasing the title but the tables have turned and it’s their time to worry.
Yes, they are 10 points ahead and our time to catch up to them is becoming a bit more limited. There are still a lot of points on the table and if we beat them here, it’s game on for not only Spurs’ place but their CL place also.

The problem for me is that we could beat them and then lose a game that we should be winning 9 times out of 10.

Let’s get this game done with and see where we stand.
It is absolutely time for this team to stand up and say “enough is enough”. Big boy pants time.

I said it in pre-season I think it was.. Bajcetic has the potential to be a world class player.

VVD and Jota not training is a nightmare for us, especially Van Dijk. I know people arent entirely happy with him but our defence is a complete joke without him. The organization goes out the window.

It’s quite common for players to miss field training as they follow their own programmes elsewhere. Folks are quite right tho to get nervous considering our weekly issues.
