It was a very poor second half chelsea.lee but I didnt think we really looked vulnerable until after the penalty, we had to really get numbers forward and lost it too often at very bad times. They played through us like a knife through butter on the break, but a fully fit Kante along with rudiger for zouma and I think we are far less vulnerable.
Azpilicueta was way off though and that is a worry. Would be a big ask of James to hit the ground running.
August 11, 2019 at 7:30 pm #1773919Thought Mount had a very decent premier league debut, and Tammy didnt do too badly. Very unlucky with shot against the bar and his positioning is very good. Defo needs to improve protecting the ball, and some of his attempts at deft link up passes were a bit sloppy.
August 11, 2019 at 7:36 pm #1773920Or perhaps our shape would have been 4-3-1-2 like United have played. Solskajaer played that and beat Sarri once. Sarri have learnt from then. if we are going to go forward. Mount and Barkley can’t be in the same team. Barkley seems to have the experience and once he left on the pitch we lost our cutting edge in midfield. Mount and Pedro should have been subbed instead.
August 11, 2019 at 8:33 pm #1773931Good to see you back and posting Lee albeit on not the best of Chelsea days.
August 11, 2019 at 8:40 pm #1773933Lucky, easy to forget that today was Mount’s PL debut for Chelsea he’s going to be a player imo and I think he had more than a very decent debut. Agree with your comments on Tammy plus your comments on Rudiger and Kante.
August 11, 2019 at 8:55 pm #1773937I thought Gary neville was spot on in his assessment nine, we shouldnt be too worried because we did a lot of things right except we need to react a lot better to losing possession and that comes from smarter positioning when we are in possession and better reading of the game from all of our players(Just depends who can improve and who can not). We did not get compact enough quickly enough and that was Jose’s take on it too.
I also think Neville is right to say utd shouldnt get carried away either. They only look dangerous on the counter and the lack of creativity in the midfield (pogba excepted) will imo be their biggest problem this season and a big one against defensive sides.
August 11, 2019 at 9:06 pm #1773938Yep agree with all that Lucky.
August 11, 2019 at 10:09 pm #1773940So now we just have to win every game and hope City drop points!!! 🙂
August 11, 2019 at 10:21 pm #1773942Ha! Thats the spirit Giblue.
August 11, 2019 at 10:36 pm #1773944Didn’t get to see the game today but was keeping an eye on the BBC Web for it.
Shocked by the scoreline considering how well we seen to start.
A bit harsh but it is what it is, it is a severe reality check but one I feel that Frank and the coaching staff will learn from.
We still have players to return from injury and I believe we will bounce back.
Unfortunately our next match is probably not the best game to be playing, (Will miss it too … Wedding Anniversary) however a baptism of United and Liverpool gives the guys a real idea of what is ahead, and much better we get these games early in the season so we can build on them.
Chin up boys!!
August 11, 2019 at 10:53 pm #1773945Very flattering result for united.
– First goal came against the run of play and through a clumsy error.
– Second Goal came against the run of play again and we lost the ball because Tammy Abraham was fouled by Maquire.
– Third goal came from switching off.
– Forth goal again just a lucky deflection.Man United had 5 shots on target and scored 4. Other than that I thought they were second best and look like a 7th place team.
August 11, 2019 at 11:11 pm #1773946If anything Chelsea were the better team and if you check the stats that would also verify it but we failed where most of us were voicing concerns at the back and upfront. Emerson though was okay but the rest of the defence are not good enough to face top teams and that includes Azpliqueta who is sadly in a kind of rapid decline. I was expecting a loss but not by 4 goals, anyway I hope I can sleep tonight.
August 11, 2019 at 11:35 pm #1773947Niblue, I think it was harsh too and Bort is right it did flatter utd
August 11, 2019 at 11:39 pm #1773948Blueowner, Im more worried about azpi than the youngsters mate
August 12, 2019 at 1:09 am #1773950It was just a bad in the office. And our inexperience have played its part. I think our defense were totally exposed today. And that was partly down to.the offensive team that Lampard have put in today. Mourinho or Conte would have tightened up that by replacing Jorginho earlier, Giroud should have played alongside Abraham in my opinion to test their partnership.
Transitions are very difficult, and when you lose the caliber of players we lost this summer like Luiz, Cahil and Hazard, plus the number of abstentees we had, add that to the inexperience of Lamaprd, i think the expectation was low. But once again we were left to rue the chances that we missed. at this minute Zouma is nervous, and it will kill his confidence if Lamps benches him. So i would Bench Kovacic, Azpi and Pedro from the team that started to day. In their places will come for Kante, Zapacosta and Pulsic. Although i seem to worry when Pulsic was introduced we lost our balance. Another striker has to play alongside Abraham, or we stop playing the long balls to him.
Anyway, mistakes will be on the line as we go in to the season. And i expect the CB that started today to start next game. Let them play together for a while. And when they get used to playing each othdr. Expect a tight defence.
I hope bounce from this next week.August 12, 2019 at 2:02 am #1773952Did not see the match. 4-0 defeat is very bad. I will try to watch the highlight; hope I’ll have the courage for that. I think pre season matches simply do not lie. Our defense has always been weak. And our finishing was often off. I am not surprised we lost but 4-0 is big. I thinl it’s the price we pay for the rebuilding process.
August 12, 2019 at 6:24 am #1773958Lampard did a good job up to now you can see they played the way he said he wants them to play unfortunately the gods were for some reason against us this time and the better team lost even though it would be hard to believe that considering its a 4~0 defeat. Its only fair now to give other players a chance especially in the defence though EP should be retained, upfront not sure where Bat’s is but him or Giroud should start, Kante as well and also Pulsic, just my thoughts, it cruely took 2 serious moments to change what could have been a victory, their penalty and one off the 2 shots that hit the poles otherwise as someone mentioned we were in control except for the last 30 minutes of the game. Plenty of positives but also some negatives.
August 12, 2019 at 6:51 am #1773960Chelsea Man we have the Super Cup on Thursday against Liverpool in Turkey so there will be plenty of changes for that I would think with Leicester on the weekend in mind. Being a trophy deciding match I’m expecting Liverpool to take it seriously and therefore so must we or we would get beyond slaughtered, whatever that might be. Definitely not something Frank or his squad need on the back of Old Trafford. It would be demoralising. A solid performance win or lose would have the opposite effect going into the next Premiership game. I saw the first half of the United game only as I fell asleep at half time but we played very well hitting the post and also the cross bar with De Gea well beaten both times. Their penalty was Zouma simply being clumsy. In my opinion we were worthy of a half time lead. Second half I’d rather not know.
August 12, 2019 at 7:26 am #1773966Re the Liverpool game in the European Super Cup on Wednesday it’s unfortunate that it comes on the back of the United game it’s important that we don’t suffer another big loss from a confidence viewpoint hopefully Kante can play which will be a help.
It’s a lot of travelling ahead of the Leicester game who are no slouches under Rodgers these three games coming as they have were always going to make it a tough start for Frank but whatever happens we’ll be the better for them when they’re over.
I’m not sure a Chelsea Manager has ever had to endure such a tough start to a season with three such games with so many of his player still unavailable and a transfer ban too.
August 12, 2019 at 9:00 am #1773990After Tammy’s shot hit the post i started to think again about the curse of the No 9!! Get the boy a new shirt and number quick for the sake of his career and our season!!!
