There’s still plenty of speculation surrounding Jose’s future at the club. Realistically, who would we like to see get the job if Jose were to get the axe? Immaterial of if they’re available or not, if the club were to make the right appointment regardless of buy-out costs, who should it be? Obviously Klopp and Pep aren’t permitted because of who they currently manage, we simply couldn’t consider them.

I think Allegri would be a great shout, if rumours are to be believed we’re already sounding him out.
What about Nuno Espirito Santo of Wolves? Has had a solid managerial career, bit of a blip while at Porto, and plays good football.
Pochettino, I like him but I’m not convinced by him yet. It’s not about the fact he hasn’t won silverware while at Spurs it’s the fact they seem to bottle it at key moments in the season.

Fingers crossed that a football competent human is appointed to the board before any managerial changes take place. Ed has had 3 goes at this now with limited success. I’d quite like them to speak to several managers before making a decision. A proper interview process rather than a flavour of the month/who’s available appointment.

Gallardo currently at River Plate? Mightn’t be a bad shout either. @hookeddevil is probably right though, needs to be one or two changes at board level, perhaps a DoF before Jose’s successor is appointed. Arsenal installed Mislintat(?) before Wenger left so it should be a like it or lump it issue for José as well.

I suppose the question is do we want trophies or nice football? Jose has won us the Europa League and the League Cup. Got us to an FA Cup Final and 2nd in the league last year. Obviously a bad start to this season but it’s very easy to forget what he’s done in the past 2 years. It’s also very easy to think a new manager will come in and instantly improve us. I don’t think they would and I don’t think anyone high up at Manchester United thinks that either…

I think as Manchester United fans we are entitled to wish for both mate. Thing is there is no magic wand as Fergie learned when he came in, it took him several years to get the measure of the job.

Don’t think Mourinho is helping the situation though, he seems on self destruct mode to me. The whole club just seems muddled to me…maybe we’ll need a Saudi sword to come in and cut away all the shite.

There is no excuse for the shite football being played by this team and that is down to the manager, his coaching staff and his tactics. Chelski and Arsenic have proved that decent football can be played within just a few games under a new manager. How long does Jose need after spending 350m? I was at the League cup final which we would have deservedly lost had it not been for Ibra. I also watched one of the worst Europa finals I’ve ever seen when we bored Ajax into submission! I want us to win trophies but you can still win playing decent football as we proved many times Jose BC.

Well there are plenty of excuses actually yorkshireman. We’re not talking about some silly twat like Moyes who was hopelessly out of his league, Mourinho has won titles wherever he’s gone and some impressive European Cups too.

I’m not going to become an apologist for him but I think some of you are living in cloud baaa baaaah land if you think everything is down to Mourinho.

I don’t want to get into the many problems that exist at the club but the football on the pitch is a reflection of the manager and his tactics imo. In addition to the 2 games mentioned above, we also just lost one of the dullest and most uneventful FA cup finals in recent memory under the same manager. What bothers me most of all though is that there is absolutely no sign or indication that the football is going to improve anytime soon.

I watched two cup finals under Fergie that were far worse than that last one. Everton and another against Chelsea. Far fucking worse.

I think what we are seeing on the pitch is a reflection of how our football club has been run for the last decade and I don’t see any manager in world football who could change what we are seeing unless Pep had free reign with his magic potions.

Again, I’m not excusing Mourinho far from it but I do think the problems run so deep that whichever poor fucker is trying to manage it is on a hiding to nothing.

Fergie wasn’t infallible and I seem to recall us having a bad patch in most seasons but he always managed to turn it around eventually. That seems to be the difference now in that I can’t see Jose turning things around because he doesn’t seem to realise his style of football has been left behind. I also don’t agree that the shambles that the club has become under the Glazers/Wudturd should be reflected on the pitch. Jose has had the funds to create his own team and has failed miserably. The performances have become unacceptable imo.
Anyway Tommy, we agree on most things about the club other than Jose so lets agree to disagree on that one.

But I like arguing with you. Quick question though…what did you think of Fergie in his third season? That would have been 88/89 when we finished 11th. In fact on this upcoming weekend thirty years ago we got beat 2-1 at home by Norwich and it was not long after we saw Pete Molyneux’s “ta ra Fergie” banner.

Wenger has confirmed he eyes a return to management in 2019! It’s not unthinkable for egg ED to make such an appointment. Unpredictable.

I’ll be honest with you Tommy, I wanted rid of him but I was young and immature in those days, now I’m old and immature! A question for you, what indications have you seen that make you think Jose might just change his ways and start to get this team playing as a team and improve the style of football?

None recently to be fair and I think his behaviour over the summer and early this season has been appalling. He’s set a negative tone and is a large part of why we are in the doldrums.

But I go back to the early part of last season where we seemed to score four goals every week and I reckon there’s his blueprint for turning it around. I remember the West Ham game the first of the season and the sides came out and we looked absolutely magnificent. Big, quick and powerful….mean motherfuckers. We really did play some belting football for about five or six games that wasn’t just my wine goggles! I couldn’t see how any fucker would mess with us.

So what’s gone on Jose, what have you done to this lot? Because they’re the same group of players, older and a bit wiser if anything…how have you lost them? They look smaller, slower and less brave.

“And the Argentine is happy to put faith in his training methods and coach players to become better footballers, rather than simply wave a chequebook at the problems.

“I prefer instead of buying to improve the quality of the work because the team usually reflects the quality of the players’ individualities, but it’s also linked to the training they receive and you also can improve a team when you improve the equipment,”

What to not like with this managaer?

Tommy – But do you remember when we were winning those games 4-0 and what Mac was moaning about? Some shite like “yeah but most of the goals were scored late in the game so it’s not a true reflection really”!!
Ha ha, always fucking moaning about something!!

The main question for me is not about the manager or board but our transfer policy. How have we purchased all these shite players and before we find that out the reason why we shouldn’t look to appoint a new manager or sign anymore players.

Why was Fred purchased, who wanted him @ £50m when he’s not going to play?
Who wanted Lindelof, who scouted Lindelof, was he our first choice?

If non of these were first choice Woody needs to go.

And also scholesy, how have so many players who are quite clearly not good enough for Manchester United been allowed to stay so long here as relatively regular starters and bedrocks of the dressing room? I’d wager Lindelof (and to an extent Bailly) would have done much better had he been brought in to play alongside Jaap Stam, Rio Ferdinand or Vidic.

I think we have created a culture of mediocrity in the dressing room where people are getting paid fortunes they’d not be collecting elsewhere but not buying in to the standards of excellence that playing for Manchester United. Because they don’t need to.

I would like to know the back stories to some of our signings though, Fred being one of the bizzarest of all. Not a Mourinho signing in a million years.
