I think some posters are going way over the top on these 2 players.

I will be the 1st to admit lack consistency but at the same time they’re only 22 and 21 respectively.

Now apart from Mbappe Jesus and Werner please give me a list strikers under the age of 22 who are at elite clubs consistently doing the business apart from Mbappe and maybe Jesus who has become a permanent bench player at City.

Most top teams have a striker in their mid to late twenties running line and we have one in Lukaku is not good enough.

I will admit we over play Rashford and hype him up to much lets wait until he is at least 23/24 to start writing him off.

When Ronaldo and Rooney were 21/22 they’re were not winning us titles and only Rooney was consistent so lets cut these boys some slack and stop talking rubbish like I will take #100 million for both players.

Zico this is why I hardly post on this forum anymore because of answers like yours.

Name me a consistent striker playing for a top side anywhere in Europe who is 22 or under apart from Mbappe.

Please don’t mention Jesus he plays on the bench and Tino Werner only plays for RB Leizpig.

Sorry mate but you have to swallow it because i am telling the truth.NOT consistent enough. Rashford has pace and technique to be a top player but his decisontaking is on par with my grandma. Martial, also pace and technique for a top player but there are miles between the good Martial and the poor Martial.

Their combined fee would bring in 200M. You could bring 5 Ajax players for this fee with better consistency.

Jose could have been the reason they didnt progress this season.Injuries aside,I fully expect them both to kick on next season, and take their game to another level.

Come on @zico m8,the likes of:Darmain,Valencia,Young,Jones,Smalling,Rojo,Mata,Herrera,Matic and Sanchez are the problem.Shaw,Lindelof,Bailly and JLingz, are players that should a decent offer come in be made available, but DDG,Martial and Rashford, are the only ones we cant lose.Dalot & Fred-still need time, and Pogba, well…………

Redblood agree totally however, i see where people arebcoming from in regards to consistentcy but i also accept that theyre young and had a manager for the last 2 years that just drained them of confidence and thats what most who criticise them dismiss.

Zico i am still waiting for you to tell us who these young strikers are that are better than Martial and Rashford same age or younger and if there are you will know as you watch all european football.

Zico, young players are rarely consistent and as someone who (rightfully) wants United to build a new team with exciting young players, you should be aware of that. I too have my doubts if Rashford and Martial can make the step up from promising to top players but they have both shown flashes of what they can become if the play their cards right. Time is still on their side but they can’t be expected to perform wonders week in week out if the quality around them simply isn’t there.

That has, in fact, been their biggest burden; to play in a pretty average team and be expected to bail it out every time from a very young age. The class of ‘92 weren’t key players from the off – they were surrounded by more experienced players and we also had to wait a few seasons for Rooney and Ronaldo to grow into their roles.

Martial and Rashford may follow that path or they may not – it’s too early to tell and far more pressing issues in replacing the deadwood rather than the very few who just might be of the required quality for United to challenge for trophies again in the future.

We have lost 4 of our last 5 games and our 2 most marketable players/assets (DDG and Pogba) look and sound like they want out.
    Mourinho out ASAP.

    Oh hang on a minute……

IKA – you can’t have a conversation with Zico. He will just come back with something completely irrelevant to the topic. Hence why I said it’s like talking to a 3 year old in the past.

I agree they are young so should not be so heavily criticised but the criticism is part and parcel of the responsibility of being a regular first teamer so nobody should be exempt. Back in the day they would be second stringers behind an established player and would only become regular starts when they became the finished article and could push the established playyer out. But Glazeromics for a decade means young players become regular staters before they are ready because there is nobody else. Its like the trenches where the 22 year old becomes the officer because all the experienced men are dead !

They are held up to be the stars of the team, they regard themselves as such (they demand star wages) but do not put in the star performances.

They are not the main priority given how much deadwood we have to clear BUT, and here comes the rub .. like it or not we are working on a tight budget so if we have good offers for them then it may be wise to cash in because the deadwood isn’t going to bring in much money is it. This is where the management team show their skill. Are they learning, are they showing progress, will they make the grade, will we end up selling them for less in a few years to an Arsenal.

You gotta know when to hold em and when not to !!

@ika – The problem comes mate when Rashford is apparently about to sign a new deal worth around 80m over 5 years, do you think Harry Kane is getting anything even close to that at Spurs?, no chance!. Sure Rashford and Martial are young, but they’ve been in the team around 4/5 years now and still perform with an amazing amount of naivety and inconsistency, and that’s the worrying thing.

Martial’s recent new contract will see him on at least 200k per week as well, but what pisses me off about him is that he barely looks interested and up for the battle most weeks, and that is unforgivable. Also, he plays as a wide forward/winger not a striker and there are plenty of young players out there who I would swap him for, eg Sane, Sancho etc.

As @Mac rightly says, there comes a point when you have to ask whether they are worth persevering with when you never know what type of performance you are going to get from them one week to the next, and my own personal view is that neither one of them is ever going to improve enough to be future world stars for the team. Time will tell whether they prove me wrong or not, simple as that.
