Purely as a matter of interest, it would be cool to know who of all of us contributors on this Your say forum go to the games. I promise this is not for any reason other than we all kind of know each other through this forum, and you kind of build up a picture of various contributors, and I would be interested to know who if anyone is a season ticket holder (other than me, I guess Ginger is), who goes every now and then, who would like to go more often but lives too far away (guess that’s Rob from Texas and Aussie – long commute for a season ticket holder!), who has not been for years and who has never been. Everybody’s opinions are valid and relevant and I guess are coloured by their relationship to the Club. I know, for example, I find myself getting impatient probably quicker than some, probably because I am so aware of how much my love for the Club costs me! I’m just lucky I live reasonably close and have had the season ticket since I was a kid, it doesn’t make me more of a fan. I also mention it because I do every now and then have spare tickets for games, and it would be funny to meet up with anyone. Met up with Howardinho, contributor on the old forum a few years ago and we’re still in touch now after I sorted a ticket for him.

Anyway you can tell me to mind my own business if you like, but if you want to humour me…

Hightownhope – I don’t get to as many games as I would like, I make 8 – 10 home games a season, and sometimes a couple of away games, I have friends and family in Liverpool but if I go up and come back on the same day it is around £150 for the day, if I stay over night it should be a bit cheaper as I save on train ticket but the night out more than covers that cost, so which ever way it is an expensive weekend.

It ain’t cheap, is it? And scandalously Anfield is now one of the dearer places to watch football – it never used to be. Are you from Liverpool originally – how come you’re a Liverpool fan?

I haven’t been to anfield in while. Last home game was 20o7 againest sheff utd. We won 4-0. Last away game was Fulham 08 we won 2-9. First game was 1993 , we beat west ham 2-0. Married and have kids now so difficult to get over from Ireland but could get over again.

More obcessed with Liverpool now then I’v ever been and I’m 38. Following us since I am 7 and a defeat can ruin weekends!

I remember watching the king scoring at the bridge to win the league in 86. Was only 9 but had knots in my stomach waiting for the final whistle. Love Liverpool the city and football club. The scousers are special people aswell. Been to Liverpool so any times. Love everything about and being Irish, we seem to have a connection with scousers.

My brother was a fan. I remember him sitting me down to watch us play aresnal at high bury in 85. I was 7. Niall Quinos debut. We lost 2-0. That was me hooked. He Gave me his yellow liverbird jersey. thsts when I really started to love football and Liverpool fc

Champions league win in 05 was one of the best nights of my life. I always wonder if I will ever get that euphoric feeling again. Chelsea loss in 2014 was hard hitting. I have never watched the slip again. It was just tragic and a real low point for days

With your last 2 results there, you need to get to more games, Sean, might improve our fortunes! And I know what you mean about getting more obsessed as you get older…I’m 53, far too old to live my life through a bunch of overpaid prima-donnas who care far less about the club than I do! Still I’ve got 2 kids and I’ve turned them in to fanatic Reds also, so my job here is done! But what’s sad about their matchgoing is that they only ever get to games with their Dad – they should be going with their mates like I did. But a)you can’t all stand together anymore and b) 20 year olds can not really afford tickets now

Would be interesting to know average age in Anfield now compared to 1970’s when I started. Total guess but maybe was 25 then and is 40 now?

Hightown, it really is sad the way it’s priced many fans out. Going to games no doubt used to be part of a social thing you did. Now going to games is deemed (from a price point of view) on a par with top of the bill music concerts, something people only usually go to occasionally. I really hope they can find ways to reduce the cost, if not, at least stop the incredible inflation.

I started going to many of the home games from around 1997 in the later Evans era. As I said in a recent thread, scoring goals was rarely a problem, it was those last awful minutes of James flapping over a corner or some predictable gaffe that either turned a win into a draw or even loss. But it was still great to go nonetheless. Love the people and city, it was my brother that brought me up supporting them as the first game he got taken to was at Anfield and he never looked back.

I’ve not been for quite a few years now, getting to a game here and there. I’m based in Cheshire so not too far away, drifting into my 30s in recent times. Time starts to fly!

You can now buy a season ticket for Real, Barca and Bayern for less than the cost of a Liverpool season ticket.

Mikus-that team in 1997 may have had the James and Kvarme gaffes but it also had Fowler and McManaman. A good time to be watching the Reds even if they never achieved what they should have done.

Ginger, you’re right about those prices and that’s even with no increase for the last couple of years. My season ticket works out at £45 a game which completely prices out so many people and especially kids. Where is the new generation? The problem is that there is still a waiting list for those season tickets. Where is the incentive for FSG to lower the prices? It’s supply and demand, but in the longterm more and more people get used to watching games on TV, cheaper, warmer and better view!

Lat time i was at Anfield was the chelsea game back in 2012, 4-1 i think was the score, living up in Scotland it’s just too expensive and 15 hours of travelling on the train just seems too much for 90 minutes of football.

Last Liverpool game i went to was against Madrid overe there.

Walter – you an ex-pat Scouser or a Scottish turned on to the Reds by King Kenny?

That trip to Madrid was the day I started doubting Brendan. It was my 21st birthday present to my son that day and Brendan played the resides after a season blood sweat and tears to get in the bloody competition!

Oh I still have fond memories of that era, but I think that side had peaked just before I started going. I commend to you the article I put up in the 2-2 draw with Man Utd thread I put up a few days ago. It was very fair and actually stressed how we probably played the best football in the league, and how it kept Ferguson scratching his head on the chalk board. We creating knew how to entertain.

Hightown I’ve always wondered why can’t the club set aside say 200 seats for u25s in the corner opposite the away fans where the young lads can sit anywhere together with their mates. The tickets can only be purchased day of match with proof of age and would be available at a reduced rate.
I’d says there be some noise coming out of that wee section which could maybe get the rest of the crowd going around them too.

Alright boys , not posted in a while ( a few years probably ) I’m self employed , mid 40’s , married with 3 kids , living in Germany for over 25 years and get over for 2 or 3 mostly home games a year . Useually make a weekend of it and stay in town . Saw 3 home wins last season , all in the Kop , West Ham , West Brom and Newcastle and was at OT last month for the 1-3 game . Useually frequent the pubs on Dale street when I’m in town and drink in the 12th man ( Solly ) when near the ground .

    Hightown,

I’m Scottish, support Liverpool because my Dad is a fan and i started supporting them when i was like 5 years old.

I couldn’t believe it when i seen the line up, luckily i had free beer and food to ease the pain at the game.

Would like to go down more often to Anfield but as i say it’s to expensive for me, never seen us get beat at Anfield though so maybe i should go more often, 4 wins and 2 draws.

Hightown – Yes from Liverpool, parents moved away when I was a kid through work, but still a Liverpool supporting family except for one brother who was never interested in football until he worked in London in the 90’s and got taken to the bridge a few times so he is now a Chelsea fan. Black Sheep 🙂

Hightown and Sean – I am in a similar age bracket, 44, talking of 05, I watch the Olypiakos game in the pub, and after that Gerrard goal, I went home folded my clothes and wore the same clothes for every game, without washing them, had the same seat in the pub, getting there hours early to ensure I got it. I am so superstitious when it comes to Liverpool (not at all about anything else. in 2014 I had a big argument with the landlord as I had been sitting in the same seat for all the tv games, and he re-arranged the furniture the weekend of the Chelsea game. I couldn’t believe it, and he is a red.

Mikus – that article about comparing the so-called Spice Boys and the Class of 92 is a great article, isn’t it? Not finished it yet, as it is really long and I have to go to work. I was one of the few Reds in Old Trafford that day of the 2-2, as a corporate guest, and we really were robbed that day. Fowler was in his pomp. What struck me now though was that there were only 34000 in the ground because of construction. I’d completely forgotten that.

Mellor – I remember you used to post a lot on the old site. Hope your kids have been indoctrinated in to the Liverpool way! With you living in Germany, is there a lot of coverage of Jurgen in the media, now he’s with us. Who’s your German team?
