He can boss a game when fit but thats just too rare to happen… Some of our best games in the past couple of seasons have been with him tearing it up

I really was excited when we signed him, theres no doubting he has serious talent. But he is neither a prospect for the future or a player who delivers right now. So where does that leave him? I’d love to be wrong and for him to tear it up for the next few years, but I think with Wijnaldum leaving we really need a midfielder who can perform consistently right now. Look at how Fernandes has single handedly transformed Utd.

I mentioned on another thread that I had slight concerns for our midfield next year as Gini was leaving, Milner is getting older, Kieta likely to leave.
    That leaves us with…
    Hendo
    Fabinho
    Thiago
    Ox
    Jones
    Milner

Even if we buy a new midfielder I’m not sure that’s enough.

Ginge, we need a good, experienced, creative midfielder in there Ginger.

You can’t really argue that he should leave because of his injury record and form and still want Oxlade who is even further away from the starting eleven…

Personally I’d sell Ox too but there are a few other issues to consider like sellability, home grown and having so many midfielders leave in the one window.
    One of Ox/Kieta should leave.

Rob I’d argue we need at least 2 midfielders to come in.
I’d also argue that they need to be in the under 25 bracket due to our squad age profile, particularly in midfield.

The HG thing might be a problem but they’d have to try and find a solution but ya, I think both Ox and Keita should go. Neither have offered anywhere near enough in their time here. Their wages could be going to players who are more useful. That may be slightly harsh on Ox, as he has scored some important goals for us but I’ve never felt that he was good enough all round.

If we’re short on quality midfielders maybe it’s time to move away from the 4-3-3. Lord knows we’ve been absolute shit at times this season with that. With so many CBs maybe we could experiment with a back 3. Or sign a forward & #10 and bring back Elliot to switch to the 4-2-3-1/4-2-4 variant that we’ve had some success with this season.

As for the HG thing, we got a kid named James Balagizi who looks a carbon copy of Curtis Jones but maybe a couple steps behind in his development. I rate him quite highly amongst all our current academy players. Time we push our own youngsters instead of signing cover that is never going to be good enough.

Agreed Ginger, we definitely need to sign 2 younger midfielders to refresh our existing ageing selection.

The likes of Bissouma, Goncalves, Koopmeiners and perhaps most excitingly Gravenberch, have been linked to Liverpool recently.

However to fund these acquisitions, that may require selling at least 2 of our current midfielders, namely the injury-prone, or those who cannot get enough game time e.g. Keita, Ox, Grujic

There’s quite a few players that could be up for sale/leaving this summer…
    Kieta
    Ox
    Grujic
    Gini
    Shaq
    Woodburn
    Wilson
    Minamino

And that’s just the midfielders off the top of my head.
