Its a weird one, because its FINALLY been announced and if you looked round the forums etc, the general feeling seems to be….slightly deflated?! I can’t put my finger on why except no doubt that part of it is that all us Wolves fans have unrealistically high expectations (just ask Morgan). For me I think I am (like you) a worrywart on this stuff, I think my biggest concern is that it looks increasingly like Lopetgui was locked into the other bid (which is why he confirmed for Spain hours after our news broke). Which if I’m honest I am pretty gutted about because he looked like a manager of REAL pedigree. This is the thing I suppose, hard to get excited about what is still pretty much the unknown! Who will be the new manager (which after all is the most important signing)?! Off hand I can’t think of many about but time will tell. Or are they waiting till Monday so they can sound out Kenny? God I hope not, he’s a great guy and a true gent but as I’ve always said for me Kenny is not a top Champ manager. Then there’s the £20-30m promised which (over two years) frankly is average at this level now! Newcastle have ALREADY spent more than that just in the last 6 weeks! Granted it would have been crazy for them to shout off about finances as this just makes a rod for your own back BUT again it gives us little REAL detail!

Its a weird one, on the one hand we FINALLY have some info which is what we all wanted….but on the other hand I somehow feel more nervous now than I did 24 hrs ago. Just look at Villa, was all excitement and being tied to players at the point of sale…one month on and there fans are ALREADY doubting the genuine financial power behind them! I suppose what I’m saying here is that whilst today is a start if we’re all honest we still know NOTHING about the direction in which our beloved club is headed….typical life of a Wolves fan I suppose! UTW 😉

I know exactly how you feel, dvw – I thought we’d get the announcement of the sale along with new manager, players etc and hit the ground running so It’s a hiatus for me. I know I wanted too much, but there were such strong rumours it would happen and now it hasn’t. Clearly Morgan is happy with the deal, I just hope and pray it’s as good for the club, but we’ll have to wait and see. Certainly we can’t go into the new season with a squad this paper-thin, though…can we?

True enough guys, I do hope your right Watford and the Press conference is a bit more illuminating. I can’t help but wonder if they had planned it for today then what in fact looks like a last gasp bid from the Spanish FA has thrown a spanner in the works! Because it all just seemed to drip out in a fairly odd manner, especially as they didn’t even break the takeover news themselves. It does make ya wonder if Lopetgui/Mendes were just using the press coverage to hurry the Spanish FA into a decision all along (seemed a big step down for him).

I mean lets be honest the managers is the BIG one, the rest will come together with the right appointment and as a first one of a new regime pressure will be on! Time will tell I have a sneaky feeling that it may depend on who Mendes has on his books.

Manzi- sure we will get a few players in more than anything else because we HAVE to, currently we have one striker who incidentally prefers not to play as a striker. That said it just needs to be the right ones! This time last season Williamson seemed like an inspired signing. A few months on and we’re just hoping to get more than 6 months out of the 18 month contract! Not an easy gigg that transfer malarky 😉

I think we may have been caught short on that guy going to Spain. If we are looking fresh , how about the recently resigned Steve Bruce ? or will some think ‘he isn’t good enough for us’ like they did a few years back ?

Yeah the timing would be handy with Bruce but not sure it will happen. And yes of course some fools will say he’s not good enough, just like they did before…we got relegated and he got promoted (some people never learn). Have to say that myself (and I think Vinni too) went quite vocal at the time saying he would be a good choice but others shot the idea down, just like they did with Morgan.

Will be interesting though because in EVERY way this appointment will say a LOT about the board. Bruce for example has more promotions under his belt then any other manager in the League but is also known to not play great footy. On the other hand we could get a Euro manager (like Lopetgui) who plays lovely, expansive footy….but hasn’t got the first clue on the Champ much less getting out of it! So here we are…the FIRST big decision….style or substance?? To be honest I am kind of on the fence with this one, I would be more than happy with ol’ cornish pasty face (Bruce;) BUT equally if they wanted to go in a more flair/profile direction then that would be fine as well. Bruce would give us a serious crack at going up soon, no doubt, on the other hand he did get sacked from Sunderland for wasting there biggest budget on basically turkeys! In Fosun we trust?!

NB- Just been reading some of the names being banded about on the rumour mill…Moyes, Wilmots, Flores (despite having JUST gone to Espanyol) and best of all….Pellegrini!!

Some fans seem to be losing the plot with this take over, I don’t think a single one of the above would take a Champ job (or necessarily do well there anyway)! Hilarious! What some peeps don’t seem to get is that yes we have financial backing now….but so do most the other teams at the top ends of the leagues! All we’ve done is taken the first (albeit crucial) step in catching up and there’s a whole race yet to run! These peeps needs to pass it on the left hand side and bounce down to the REAL world! Sorry, rant over 😉

Dick I am a bit torn as well. I just don’t believe that Bruce would go or be welcomed back to Sunderland. Fans are unforgiving , did you hear the anti Allardyce rant by the Newcastle fan on five live this week? Still it quite cheered me up that Hull are going in to the prem with no manager, no new signings and 15 fit players, it makes us seem quite organised ! I do agree with you they key will be who is making the decision on the new manager.

Maybe the deflation is down to the suspicion that there were two bids going on and we don’t know if we got the right one?
I thought the other bid(if it was another bid) with the influx of Portuguese players looked like a possible feeder operation, but that could be a bit of the Old Gold paranoia seeping out.
Anyway what we have is a cash base, we still have to find the players and someone still has to make them play like a team, not much time left for that process.

I can’t see any point in appointing a British manager if Mendes is going to be of any use. All of the Portugese players we’ve been linked to would have been attracted by a manager they knew of and could take the club to the heights – that wouldn’t be Bruce or Martinez. Think about the young lads that might have come on board via Mendes – young lads with their way to the first team blocked, another just back from injury and no place in the team and yet another who had not settled after a big money transfer. These would have been great loans to get us up when Mendes could have got us bigger fish to fry alongside the spry from the academy. I’m a big fan of Jackett, but I expect him to be fired and replaced by an Iberian manager.
Still, I’m often wrong and we’ll all have to wait.
    Again.

We’ve waited all this time for a meaningful owner, someone who has deep enough pockets to potentially fulfil all our dreams, just hope in 12 months time I don’t wake up from a nightmare, haha

The owners have a real decision to make in the next 48 hours. They had a very good manager lined up but his country called – just bad luck. They could search for a new manager there are good ones around both UK and European but can we wait that long with the squad so thin. The alternative is to back KJ , give him some money and see how it goes. I really don’t know what I would do.

With time so short what choice do they have but to back KJ?
They will expect promotion soon as, they wont run the risk of screwing it up with a manager who has to find his feet.
Not unless he’s a giant name of course, but I got the impression from the recent KJ interview that he is sitting pretty for now.

I agree, knotter, he sounded a happy man. To be fair, I don’t see that anyone else suggested so far would be that much better and if Mendes doesn’t have a backup for Lopetegui then Kenny deserves a shot. To judge him on last season is really unfair, when he had his best players sold from under him and given cheap makeweights as all of his suggested targets went elsewhere; it must have been like trying to complete a game of patience with about four cards missing from the pack.It would show us all what he could do with a realistic budget – and alternatives like Bruce have shown they don’t spend too wisely.

Well that Press conference is defo gonna be a BIG one! Like Watford if I am honest I am on the fence with the manager to some extent, I do think that change is needed though. I respect Jackett for the entirely professional approach he has had throughout this whole situation which must have been SO hard for him BUT the problem for me is as much as I like the guy he just ain’t that good I’m afraid!
Never got a team promoted and whilst I agree Bruce (as stated) has wasted money in the Prem…to be fair to him he rarely does in the Champ. Also there is no getting away from the fact that with KJ we have manager that has NEVER got a team promoted or even managed in the top flight for that, whereas Bruce has more promotions than anyone else! Also I think to be honest this whole carry on has completely undermined KJ’s position, lets be honest EVERY man and there dog would know if he kept the job its on burrowed time and I’m just not sure how that works for squad control/management?! Also on this I think peeps are all to quick to write off last season, peeps seem to forget that Kenny went through that initial transfer window when the club wasn’t up for sale and he was genuinely adamant that he had a team strong enough to compete despite it quickly being shown to be paper-thin. Add to this his inability to integrate new players then for me I think we need a fresh start and now has to be the best time for that.
So If I HAD to back someone here and now (from the ‘realistic’ options given)… I would give Bruce a two year contract with a big promotional bonus. Then I would (do a Watford:) and get some pedigree once the promotions secured. Its harsh but lets be honest (as we’ve already seen) a manager is only as loyal as his options so that should really cut both ways. Anyway I think thats somewhat academic cause for me I think Fosun will either a)keep Kenny till xmas and basically say ‘its your job to lose’ or b) bring in a manager from entirely left field that we’ve hardly heard of before (a la Lopetgui).

Gonna be another big day for Wolves fans! Have to say nice to see a thread with so many old voices, see ya on here tomoz night for the fallout;)

Knotter- I actually think your spot on, I think the deflated feeling stems from the other (cough..imaginary…cough) bidder. Where we were all convinced (myself included) that we would be inundated with £10m+ signings and brazilian whizzkids! In hindsight it was never gonna be like that (doubt they’d be any good at this level anyway) but I think your right in that has created a stupid expectation for whoever was gonna come in! Kind of like peeps going.. ‘damn, I was SO hoping that Sheik OsmanAbramovich was going to come in and plate the club in gold’.

A shame really cause it has somehow detracted from what should have been a VERY exciting day! To be fair (as stated) I think once we know that there’s actually a decent plan to follow then we can all start talking about imaginary transfer targets….I can hardly wait 😉

As I said Manzi they were always gonna get the wallet out but like you say certainly plenty of positives from the meeting. I see that the E & S are making up there own stories for the headlines (standard) ‘Jackett Set to stay’ is typically misleading! What Shi seemed to actually suggest was that at the moment they aren’t sure where they are after they were clearly left in the lurch by Julens decision.

I think its pretty clear by now that I’m not the biggest KJ fan but for me I am more shocked that BOTH him and Thelwell have had a stay of execution. Worries me slightly if I’m honest because between them they have recently over seen some terrible transfers (not sure who should carry more blame) but my god I hope they aren’t allowed free reign on a large budget! We will be inundated with players on the subs bench, physios table or sent out on loan to League 1 before ya know it! Just as Saville, Bryne and Williamson (actually don’t ask Williamson, he may pull a muscle whilst responding! 😉

We need to tear up Thewell list, it will probably contain lots of cheap young and hungry players who never reach their potential. Get out of Lidl, we need to go to Waitrose, Fortnum and Mason can wait until we are in the Premiership.
