A good run of fixtures has coincided with Tuchel taking over and that has assisted in point accrual during the bedding in period and arguably made his job a little easier. That should continue with this fixture and I fully expect victory here.

Newcastle though are very erratic in form. Their last start a home win over Southampton whilst down to 10 men however prior to that losing to Palace at home and earlier beating Everton away, losing all of Leeds at Home and Villa and Arsenal away.

Newcastle are generally poor though on their visits to the Bridge and if Leicester nick points off of Liverpool and we win we would be back in the top four, albeit some other teams around the top ten having games in hand on us.

This week, three of our top four rivals are playing tougher games, Spurs are facing City, that is a win-win situation for Chelsea if Spurs lose we will open a gap. And if City loses we will be closer to them. and Leicester who is 4 points ahead of us in third place is playing against Liverpool who is a point ahead of us in fourth place. another win-win situation for Chelsea if Leicester wins we will be in the top four if we win. if Liverpool wins, we will be a point behind the third-placed team if we win. I hope we don’t squander that golden chance.

Yes a great opportunity over the next 3 or 4 days and it will be an interesting read of the Premiership table at the end of the round. A massive turn around to get within a sniff of the top 4 this early in Tuchel’s tenor at the Bridge. Now he has got to get them playing as a unit with some sort of coherent identity. Holding possession for 70% of a game and testing their keeper only once or twice needs to change. We need to be entertained. They all have abundant ability however there is room for plenty of improvement and some fine tuning.

No Callum Wilson for Newcastle on Monday night is a plus for us.

If Chelsea can win on Monday night they will go 2 points above Liverpool unthinkable a few weeks ago.

I was hoping Liverpool would beat Leicester as Leicester seemed to me to be less strong than Liverpool to compete for the top 4. Moreover they are in Europa where they have a lot of matches. But Liverpool won. So our chance to sneak (at least temporarily) to the top 4. This match against Newcastle is a must win. I don’t think Thiago Silva is available, we’ll have to cope one more time without him, our best summer signing so far (unfortunately, sic).

Ziyech, where to play him. I think the problem with this Chelsea team is that we have good players, a lot of them. But just no one is really an extraordinary player. We had Cech, Drogba, Lampard, Fabregas, Costa, Hazard in the past, we still have Kante who hasn’t shone yet under Tuchel. I reckon Newcastle will defend deep and we’ll have trouble to create any chance. But hopefully we’ll win this match and get into the top 4. My team: Mendy – Azpi,Christensen (if fit),Rudiger – Alonso,Jorginho,Kovacic,Hudson-Odoi – Mount,Giroud,Werner.

Really would like to see Kante back to his best though but it seems that Tuchel favours the duet of Kovacic-Jorginho who have better passing ability.

This week was a good weekend for Chelsea football club. almost all of our top four rivals have dropped points. Spurs were beaten by City, our Friend Big Sam has done a favour for us, and guess who assisted their goal? none other than our Gallagher. Liverpool has lost to Leicester. so if we win we will be not only in the top four but also only four points from second place. that is a golden chance.

But to be honest, I’m scared to my core that we may not capitalize on this golden opportunity. I hope our players are fired and focused to win this important match. this will give a clear indication of where are heading.

We need a convincing performance tonight. Resultwise we’ve done well under Tuchel, but our football hasn’t been overwhelming. We need that. Especially as A. Madrid a waiting just around the corner

Oh my giddy aunt! I just saw starting 11 and kepa in goal? Well will do tuchel no harm with board trying to get him back in to form and protect his market value, but for tonight? A win takes us top 4? If kepa makes a howler and we fail to get all 3 points I think I will wait a few days before posting!

Kepa? Are you kidding or is it my eyes? This is our biggest game of the season, we could be in the top four, and our coach picks our second choice keeper? What does that mean? i don’t know if this guy is trying to win over the board or if he seriously believes Kepa is a Chelsea standard. But I believe it’s the former. He is trying to impress the board. We have Werner, who misses chances, and we have three less creative players as midfielders. And Abraham isn’t a technically skilled striker. i really don’t know where the goals will come from tonight if the Kepa we knew turns up for this game. We shot ourselves in the leg before the contest even started. Christensen, Rudiger, Kepa and Jorginho in one line up? That is a precursor for disaster. These are the players that let us down last season.

Thankfully Newcastle were limited to very little attempts on goal like everyone else we have faced since tuchel took charge so maybe it was less of a risk than I thought but still, I hope mendy starts in goal against atletico.

Werners best performance for a while, second to the 3 points that’s the biggest positive from tonight for me

This Tuchel fella must have a large pair of brass ones to start with that line-up.Ok,the gamble worked so I suppose no harm no foul.I think he’s trying to imply that every one in the squad starts with a clean slate and all will be given a chance to impress and all team places are up for graps.I can’t argue with that, there needs to be stiff competition for a 1st team place to keep everyone on their toes.Got to admit that a lot of players are in a ‘last chance saloon’ with this manager, players either shape up or they’ll be out on their ear.Don’t think Tuchel has been really tested yet, nonetheless another 3 pts are much welcome and our position since he come in is starting to look healthy again!

Not our best performance. 1st half we were good but wasteful. 2nd half we were dull, they were dull. Not the best match to watch. But hey, we won. Cannot complain about anything. We’re in the top 4 momentarily. Massive surprise Kepa and he did not disappoint. Hopefully Tuchel will be able to improve us to be more clinical. Kovacic was immense today but he cannot shoot. Nobody can shoot. We had corners that we could not take advantage of. Without Thiago Silva and Zouma, we don’t have good headers.

It was more of the same wasn’t it. Dominated possession and tested their keeper barely a handful of times. In fact Kepa probably had a busier time of it making a couple of saves. Tuchel though has immediately shored up the defence with an own goal the sum of what we have conceded in his tenure. Points are flowing however the run of opponents has been friendly. More testing times ahead and it will be interesting how they respond. Clearly Tuchel is relying heavily with his system on Jorginho and Kovacic in an experienced mid-field however the football is fairly predictable match after match and not something that sets the world on fire. Rome wasn’t built in a day though and Tuchel has done a great job to date. Some activity in the summer market with ins and outs that are his choice and next season will be interesting. For the rest of this season I can see the squad plugging away accruing points best they can and hopefully jagging that top four spot. Maybe a good run to the final of the FA Cup too however can see a tough final opponent at the end of it if we were to get that far and that may be a bridge too far. Heh though, its cup football so you never know.

Thought Kepa did well with a couple of decent saves though his kick outs are still an issue as they mainly go to the opposition. Very good first half dont know why we fall away in the 2nd half. Most of us are somewhat perplexed that nobody seems capable of decent shots at goal. Players of this quality should be more clinical with shots at goal. Anyway some tough games coming up so let’s hope for the best.

Decent first half from us which faded in the second half but a very welcome 3 points. Much tougher games to come though.

We got away with playing Kepa last night selecting him added to his confidence against a fairly blunt Newcastle and if Mendy got injured we would need Kepa so I get where Tuchel may have been coming from.

Was it to retain some value in Kepa should he be sold in the Summer? Possibly but who whoever might be interested in taking him in the Summer will remember last night’s performance come the Summer, with Mendy confirmed as our No 1 anyway.

I think Mendy is our better option but I’m still not entirely convinced we’ve solved our Goalkeeping position medium to long term having said that I thought Kepa put in a decent performance last night and v Barnsley and I was pleased for him.

Up to 4th place now which looked very unlikely a few weeks back but it remains a massively tough task to stay there with so many Clubs in the race for a top 4 place this season.

What he lacks in creativity and pure goal scoring he makes up for in other ways. I’d like to see him get on the score board more often though I must admit.
