Yes, reading between the lines their birthday present is all but on the table too – a nice big fat salary for three years with probable add ons. Hope he succeeds big time and it’ll quieten down the odd doubter too. I am sure that post of yours went through to the keeper as I was expecting a reaction but life went on as normal – had to have a chuckle at that 😉

1905, fair points about Zola and I agree that the director role might have been a better fit for him. I’ve always thought the technical director / director of football or whatever they are called is a role best suited to someone towards the end of their managerial career, not so involved in the everyday coaching but more overseeing things from a board level. I’ve posted before that, although I’m pleased to have Petr back, I’m not sure how he is qualified in any way for this role. But interesting times ahead and let’s see how it all pans out!

We don’t know Petr’s academic background so who are we to question or otherwise I guess. The club employed him on a Resume/CV/background that we are not privy to. I guess we just trust the board of Directors to know better than we do. I would be surprised if they just put a bunch of names in a hat and did a lucky dip for the role 🙂

Cech is no slouch alongside his native Czech language he speaks English, French, German and Spanish and he is also an accomplished musician playing the drums to a sufficient level to record with Queens Roger Taylor.

There seems to be a drive at the Club to bring back some of the Club’s most trusted and well respected sons who have enjoyed very good relationships with Roman previously.

It’s obviously a risk given that Cech has no experience in the role and Frank has limited experience in his role but it’s important in both roles that the two can work together and given their previous relationship there’s every chance of that being the case.

But we are in the land of suck it and see it might all go horribly wrong on the other hand it could be a spectacular success and be the beginnings of a new Chelsea only the foolish and opposition fans wouldn’t wish for the latter.

If the reports today are accurate and the one concern the Board have re appointing Frank is lack of experience in his team just retain Franco. He’s a wise head who would be a good sounding board for Frank and his young back up team.

I would also put Steve Holland in that bracket too but there’s no chance of getting him out of his England job for such a role.

I am not saying that Petr is not academically qualified but what I am saying is that it is not clear to me that he has the right credentials and experience to take on the role having only just finished playing and never been in management

Just threw it out there as Frank, assuming he will be named as manager, will need a lot of help and I was not convinced that apart from playing together that Petr will be able to provide the full support. That being said, the job description is pretty vague and far reaching so maybe between them all they will define a suitable working arrangement. Here’s hoping anyway…? KTBFFH

1905, of course you are spot on. Cech despite being academically qualified lacks experience for the role.

Problem is where do you find a DOF which this role ostensibly is with Marina retaining the power base, there are very few available and most probably wouldn’t work under the current structure and the majority are ex players ie Overmars and Van Der Saar at Ajax, Nedved at Juve and until recently Leonardo at AC Milan etc.

The major benefits with Cech are he accepts the structure he has to work under, he has a good relationship with Roman and he knows the Club and his way around the Club and seemingly his relationship with Frank was good when they played together and hopefully that will blossom further.

Suggestions that Frank will be confirmed in the next 48 hours? Be good to get it buttoned up now.

It’s all a risk but I can see where Roman is coming from and it will either be a spectacular success or a spectacular failure let’s hope for the former.

Got to admit though it’s got me excited about it all. Cheers 999

I hope this gets sorted out quick, why do we have to upset Derby now as well, everyone including the players want some final clarity on whats happening. It may not even be Lampard.

Notnice, I don’t really see why Derby should be getting upset with Chelsea. The club is well within their rights to take as long as they want to decide who they want as the next manager, and there is nothing they can do about the constant media speculation. If Derby wants to get upset about someone it should be the press, who wont let the matter go.

Nn, I guess there’s no point negotiating Frank’s and his team’s release from Derby until Frank and his team have confirmed they’re definitely coming and who knows what is really going on behind the scenes.

It’s never done until there’s a signature on the dotted line but the conjecture has been so great and the odds so big in favour of Frank coming it would be a major suprise if it didnt happen. But you’re right it’s time for clarity now.

Should it all fall down Rafa is seemingly available.😊

Not sure of the background of Rafa leaving Newcastle but just maybe Roman has plumped for the no risk approach at this stage of Frank’s managerial career?!?!

I suspect that Roman was waiting for Rafa’s contract at Newcastle to end before announcing him as your new manager.

Rumours on a Frank appointment have been too strong imo lads.

Appointing Rafa would be seen as going backwards particularly by the match going fans although he might be a safe pair of hands whilst Frank is seen as an exciting appointment and going forwards

Rafa wouldn’t be that well accepted again by the fans as there has been universal support for a Frank appointment.

Whilst I understand the linkage Frank looks likely to be tied up this week.

“With the appointment of Petr Cech as the Technical and Performance Advisor, the Blues are trying to bring the feel-good factor back to Stamford Bridge.

However, appointing Benitez would take that away in an instant and the Blues board will not be planning on doing that.

Lampard is still expected to be the new head coach, with a resolution to be this week.” Football London

Rafa a going to coach in China, much more money involved. Maybe Mourinho takes the Newcastle job. That means Lampard will be announced this week sometime.

Is common sense finally prevailing at Chelsea?…Benitez turns down new contract at Newcastle meaning he’s as free as a bird meaning the coast is clear to get him…no muss no fuss. The argument of Rafa being ex Lpool and what he said about us when he was there causing a bee in the bonnet for some Chelsea…water under the bridge I say, that was then this is now.Rafa ticks all the boxes imo,we’d be mad to turn our noses up at him in preference for the green and very inexperienced Frank Lampard in my humble opinion!.Time is being needlessly frittered away,we really need to wrap the appointment up quick to give us as much time as possible to prepare for a new season!

“Claim From Italy: Chelsea Reach Agreement With Frank Lampard

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Frank Lampard to become the successor to Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge, it has been claimed in Italy.

Lampard, who is the highest goalscorer in Chelsea history, spent 13 successful trophy-laden years at Stamford Bridge during his playing career.

And following his first step into senior management with Derby County in the Championship last summer, Lampard earned plaudits after a memorable season with the Rams.

The Englishman guided Derby to the playoff final in the Championship, but eventually fell short of securing a win at Wembley against Aston Villa.” inside futball.

Re Rafa if we join up the dots fellas everyone knew Rafa’s contract was up at the end of June but there’s been almost zero linkage to him in the media and if we were really interested in him there would have been contact and I’m sure they would have picked up on it.

Secondly would the Club have appointed Cech to the role he’s been given if Rafa was coming?

Thirdly the Club don’t want another negative reaction from the fans after Sarri which they also got first time around with Rafa and would almost certainly get if Frank wasn’t appointed now.

Don’t get me wrong I think Rafa could do a good job and and I understand the experience argument and whilst nothing is ever certain in football I still think everything points to Frank and Roman’s desire for a completely new direction taking into account all the circumstances.

One thing that I did note with Derby was that they had 4 or 5 injections of quality into their squad which probably should have pretty much guaranteed a top two finish and instant promotion and they ended up a long way off even though they just missed promotion by a play-off defeat.

Bring in Tomori, Mount, Wilson, Cole and whoever else was there and promotion should have been achieved over the season and wasn’t. Maybe that shows us that those players (except Ashley Cole who is probably past it now anyway after having been the best left back in the game) have heaps of room for improvement still and are not as yet Premier League quality or does it reflect in any way on Frank and Jody?

The step up from Derby to Chelsea basically is immeasurable however the quality of player we have and the respect they would have for Frank should enable him to have a reasonably comfortable first season at the Bridge, after that for he and his coaching team the sky is the limit.

We need to remember that Avram Grant was average at best and Robbie Di Matteo who also failed elsewhere won the holy grail of football, admittedly with class players however it proves that inexperience counts for very little if the manager is wanted at the football club. Frank will have that in truck loads from everybody associated with Chelsea.

67, to be fair of those 4 players Cole didn’t join until January and age aside he’s now 38 he only played 9 times for Derby in the Championship and a total of 564 minutes according to transfermarkt the other three players were probably Derby’s best players and all bought in by Frank and Tomori was Derby’s Player of the Season.

A true comparison to Frank is Robbie and you’re right despite winning the CL and the FA Cup it didn’t work out but we’re in different times now and we’re not able to buy our way out of a slump by throwing money at it even without a transfer ban.

Appointing Frank after just one season in the Championship is definitely a risk and it’s probably come several years too early but despite the risk with the possible exception of ten Hag who is no longer available and doesn’t know Chelsea like Frank and Jody do and given all the circumstances personally I can’t think of two better appointments than Frank and Jody.

Unfortunately at every falter and there will probably be a few next season I fear the naysayers on social media and the press will be on Frank’s back which won’t be helpful but as long as Roman and the match going fans remain committed to Frank and Jody and the longer term plan and seemingly they will Frank and Jody have got every chance of pulling it off imo. And hopefully we end up with a new improved Chelsea.

I don’t think that an experienced wise head as part of Frank’s team would go amiss though.

But Frank’s got to sign that contract first.😊
