I was lucky enough to have met Nobby several times through a mutual friend, and saw him speak on the after dinner circuit a few times. He was a proper down to earth Collyhurst lad who you would never have guessed how famous he was, and that he had such a tough reputation on the pitch.
It’s a disgrace that he was so poor in his latter years and that his family had to sell all his medals. He died completely penniless, even though he was one of only 2 English football players in history to win both the World Cup and European Cup alongside Bobby Charlton. RIP Nobby.
