Always makes me laugh when people say the Glazers won’t spend big on a player like Sancho.
Did we not just sign Maguire, AWB and Fernandes?June 28, 2020 at 9:50 am #1852265@happy – Take a day off from being a total fucking spanner mate, the financial landscape has completely changed since those signings, or did you miss that bit?! Matchday revenue alone is around 110 to 120m per season, the loss of which will affect us much more than any other EPL club, there is also the big caveat surrounding CL qualification and the big bucks that it brings in.
Are you seriously suggesting the gimps won’t set a transfer budget that reflects those massive financial implications?, deary me!June 28, 2020 at 10:12 am #1852275Ha ha ha!!
June 28, 2020 at 10:13 am #1852276@blacky – think all clubs will feel the pinch mate: I believe Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea rely more on their matchday income than United do as an overall % of income (despite making quite a bit less than us). We’re lucky that we’ve built up quite a good income in terms of dispersing our income over a number of channels; we will definitely take a hit but I still think clubs will go about their business and spend proportionately.
Cheers
June 28, 2020 at 10:55 am #1852284That Ighalo fella is turning into a nice little signing isn’t he?
June 28, 2020 at 11:01 am #1852285Obviously transfer fees will be forced down a little but the top players will still cost a lot. It’s the shit players on high wages (pretty much all our deadwood) that we will struggle to shift.
Whatever happens we need to bring in a top quality RW. I’d be happy to sacrifice all other signings (until we managed to offload players) if it meant sorting that position and in turn completing our front 3.I just hope the rumours of Grealish are not true. He’s a £30 million player max. Not too keen on Maddison either. Lovely footballer but not a patch on Bruno
June 28, 2020 at 11:03 am #1852286@Sympathy – The word “proportionally” is the key mate, don’t forget that there were strong hints at the time that the Bruno deal in January was done in advance of this summer’s spend, so that’s 50m already gone from the budget if true.
The prospect of 5m being lost every single home game for months to come must be scaring the gimps shitless, and there is bound to be big implications on the amounts of spare cash sloshing around for sponsorship deals as well.Like I said earlier, the usual 150m net spend on transfers just will not happen this summer, so unless we qualify for CL, big money is recouped on sales and/or Dortmund massively drop their asking price, the chances of signing Sancho are slim to none, simple as that.
June 28, 2020 at 11:07 am #1852289June 28, 2020 at 12:28 pm #1852308@blacky – correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the Fernandes transfer funds come from the sale of Lukaku? I too don’t think we’ll spend 150m net this summer however, considering player prices will drop a little (not as much as people think though) and the fact that Ole will look to sell on Jones, Rojo, Sanchez and Lingard (potentially also Smalling and Periera) and get the wages off the books, I still think we can expect to make a significant forage into the transfer market – probably Sancho for around 100m (our entire transfer budget) + another 30m or so player coming in after we sell the deadwood above to finance that move (maybe a Bellingham, maybe a young Centre Back, maybe someone like Partey if we decide to go a bit higher).
Cheers
June 28, 2020 at 1:00 pm #1852311If we do sign Sancho I reckon it’ll be for about 80 million with another 20 million in add ons (appearances, goals, winning league/ Champions League)
The more difficult part will be shifting our dead wood.
We can probably sell Smalling, Pereira and Lingard for about 40 million combined but will have to settle with simply getting the wages of Rojo, Jones and Sanchez paid by somebody elseJune 28, 2020 at 2:08 pm #1852338@Sympathy – Did you not read Woodward’s comments mate?, he was already warning about players going for massive money 2 months ago, and the prospect of having no fans in the stadiums for the next 12 months at least is still very real. You just cannot ignore that stark reality when you are setting transfer budgets, especially if there is no CL revenue to fall back on.
As for selling the deadwood, I will be both amazed and delighted if most of them are not still here next year due to their extravagant wages, especially Sanchez, Rojo and Jones.June 28, 2020 at 2:14 pm #1852342June 28, 2020 at 2:27 pm #1852353Guess we’ll just have to wait and see won’t we? Hasn’t stopped Chelsea from spending money. Or Juventus.
June 28, 2020 at 2:56 pm #1852359Chelsea are spending money they were meant to spend in the last 2 transfer windows, plus money they have made from the sales of Hazard,Morata, and some of their deadwood.
Sympathey-Players prices have already fallen drastically, take Icardi for example, instead of £110m,he went for just over £53m.The same thing will happen to every player, every team, the footballing world wont recover for years to come!Nobody will even think of paying £300m for Kane, those times are gone, probably for good!
As for our own deadwood,I agree with Blacky, nobody in their right mind will pay for the likes of Sanchez,Rojo,Jones,so 1 or 2 things will most probably happen,we will have to keep them,or pay them to leave.
Sporting president was on record saying that they are very happy to have sold Fernandes to us for the money they did, otherwise Covid-19 would have had made that impossible. We all know full well that there are tons of players nobody wants.
Another thing I hope we avoid doing,is giving new contract to anybody, and gopefully cash on DDG,with Henderson hopefully taking ove from nexx season!June 28, 2020 at 3:01 pm #1852363Henderson to take over from De Gea next season eh? Not with schoolboy mistakes like that Redblood!
June 28, 2020 at 3:09 pm #1852365Dortmund’s CEO has just said that nobody will pay the price that they want for Sancho, as it would be “too expensive” for anyone to do so, he also said that they will not be giving a “coronavirus discount”
My bet is that Jack Grealish will be our only ‘marquee’ signing this summer for around 50m plus add ons.June 28, 2020 at 3:22 pm #1852370Happy-DDG been making silly mistakes for the past 2 years.
June 28, 2020 at 3:35 pm #1852375@happy – How is Juve spending a reported net 12.5m on swapping Arthur for Pjanic anything significant?
June 28, 2020 at 3:57 pm #1852378I didn’t see that Blacky, just saw it was a huge offer of £80m or something? Either way I guess we’ll see what happens won’t we? I think Ole is building a good team but, even by his own admission, we’re several players away from being able to challenge.
If we keep Pogba (and keep him motivated) I expect us to be a fairly good side next season. Fernandes, Maguire and AWB will all be more settled. If he can get 3 players in and ship out 3 or 4 of the left over deadwood, you’d have to say he’s doing a good job of the rebuild.Redblood – I like Henderson. I just don’t see him being anywhere near as good as De Gea at the moment, despite his poor form currently.
June 28, 2020 at 4:12 pm #1852382@Blacky-I think the Germans have a right fucking dilemma on their hands mate. Sancho’s contract runs until June 2022. If they don’t sell him this summer and he doesn’t sign a new deal, then next summer he will have a year left and they’d do well to get £50M for him. The big thing with Sancho is if he will extend his contract. If he does then he’ll be staying at Dortmund for at least another year.
