Of course I expect Cahill or anyone of our players for that matter not being happy being marginalised and kept out of the team!.We have to have healthy competition for places so that players don’t get complacent.Up to Cahill to win his place back but if he can’t and wants to leave then that’s his perogative.Anybody know how Hector’s getting on at Reading?…I see we’re being linked to an American defender and apparently there’s a stampede for him from a host of top EPL clubs…I suppose that tacitly ends our pursuit of Stones from Everton for the time being at least.
January 28, 2016 at 2:56 am #824669I think we should try to retain Cahill. We need English players. And Cahill is the future captain after Terry
January 28, 2016 at 7:14 am #824696Aindro I agree we should retain this January but he’s not a future captain. When he’s not alongside JT seems lost at times. I once thought he’d be a future CFC captain but since being at the club I’ve gone off that idea. He’s been and still is a great player for our club. He was a steal for £7m bit he’s not a future captain.
January 28, 2016 at 7:30 am #824705Currently our best centre back pairing is Terry and Zouma and Zouma needs to play because of his pace so its going to be tough for Cahill to win back a regular place this season this new lad from the US Matt Miazaga is meant to be very pacy too if we sign him.
Cahill was a great signing especially at £7m and I can understand his frustrations.
I was surprised we gave Cahill a new 4 year deal when he was days away from being 30 and suspect being English counted in his favour. JT can’t go on for ever so I wouldn’t sell him and I certainly wouldn’t help Liverpool out by selling him to them but who knows how this will all end up.
January 28, 2016 at 8:21 am #824762Agree with 999, JT maximum still has 1 more season as regular. He is still good but too much exposed now due to his lack of speed. I would say no to Cahill’s sale
January 28, 2016 at 8:39 am #824846I have to admit that I get really frustrated at players who cannot command a first team place and look to leave immediately rather than fight for their place
Of course Cahill has an underlying reason being the Euro’s (as did Lukaku) but for me the Club comes first. IMO, Zouma is the future and he is playing well with JT. I expect JT to be given a new contract but next season should be his last. I would suggest to Cahill that if he stayed and fought for his place then he is currently the obvious replacement
If he is not prepared to stay and fight and wants away then I say let him go – I do not want players with that negative attitude in the squad
We have Christensen, Kalas and the young lad from Reading (who I have seen very few reports on) plus potentially this new kid from the MLS so there is plenty of young potential. Zouma will require an experienced defender to play alongside unless any of those players mentioned are as good as him
As for Stones, I have seen quite a number of mistakes or dodgy moments from him lately so becoming even more convinced that he is not yet worth 40m
I do not think we will let Cahill go in this window and if I was him I would shut up and knuckle down and see who becomes manager in the Summer as he could easily become flavour of the month again…? KTBFFH
January 28, 2016 at 8:48 am #824873If you dont give players game time them they become unhappy lose form and want out, that is why you have to rotate the team to keep everyone happy and fresh and not burn them out like Jose did – Cahill is good enough to be rotated as are more than a few others. Its either that or lose players and its not only Cahill thats unhappy. Zouma is of course a bright talent but his also made a few costly mistakes and Terry is already an old man so why not give Cahill a proven top EPL defender and the fastest player ever to have every major trophy more game time-bad managering
January 28, 2016 at 4:26 pm #826139Blueowner – the problem with a squad of 25 is that there are a lot of players who will miss out
Funnily last season when Jose was criticised for not rotating enough and possibly burning out players we did not hear as many moans from the rest of the squad as we do today – so my feeling is that this has more to do with the problems still surrounding the squad and early season woes
These days, football is a squad game and anyone who does not understand that and accept that they may be rotated should not be playing at this high level – it comes with the territory
So although Cahill may have his own private reasons (well not so private it’s just that he wants to play in the Euro’s…!!) my feeling is that until you can get your club form sorted don’t start whinging
And if you are the type to whinge and want away because someone deems you not good enough and you are not prepared to fight for your place, then I would argue that as a squad we could be better off without you…? KTBFFH
February 1, 2016 at 1:50 pm #833990So it would appear obvious that Cahill was not aware of the decision regarding JT when he vented his frustration and hence the decision by Hiddink to placate him and not sell him
Although the door is still open for JT it would appear that Cahill is now the most experienced CB we have on our books so if it was me, I would immediately start playing him with Zouma on a regular basis for the rest of the season. This gives them time to gel and start preparing for next season
If they cannot gel then we know that we have to look in the market but maybe the fact Jose chased Stones for so long is now a bit more clearer…? KTBFFH
