What a breath of fresh air. Solskjaer absolutely relishes this opportunity and is a proper tracksuit manager appointment to get the team playing football. The MacGuffin must be bouncing with excitement wherever he is.

So what do you fellas think we should expect of him in the next 6 months?

Personally I am looking to judge him on the following, in order of priority:

    1. Get the players to understand how a proper Manchester United player conducts himself – respect for the badge must be restored.

I do not want to hear about anymore bollocks from these players. Most of them seem more focused on clothing lines and social media campaigns instead of winning football games – I am sick of seeing it and as a Manchester United legend, I am sure Ole is also tired of this circus. these players better realize they are playing for their futures in these next 6 months.

    2. Establish a predictable pattern of play which scores us more goals than the opposition – we have to become a high scoring team. It’s clear to me that the whole squad needs surgery but our defence is where we are particularly rubbish in terms of both personnel and training, it will take a while before the defence gets sorted so we will have to start scoring goals from the off.

    3. Give all the players a fair crack at playing in the starting eleven. It’s a bit of a juggling act but I think the flurry of games coming up are perfect for a bit of squad rotation in any case. I want to have another look at a lot of these players under different management.

More than anything @hatters,I want and expect the deadwood to be shown the door, starting with January. We cannot start next season with the likes of Darmian,Rojo,Jones,Valencia,Young,Fellaini,Sanchez,Matic,Mata,Herrera still @ the club.No more buying past their best players like Mata,Matic,Sanchez.

@hatters – You’re right mate. Short of a Keane, Neville or Cantona, Ole is exactly the man I have dreamed of as manager. AND I’m going to tip that he is a success and gets the job on a permanent basis.

As for expectations, I think Ole pretty much summed it up himself in his MUTV interview.

1] He said he wants to get the players (and fans) enjoying the game. That means smiles, enthusiasm, passion on the pitch and off.

2] He said he wants attacking football, so even if we don’t get the results I expect the team to go for goal.

3] He said everybody starts with a clean slate and has chance to prove themselves. I expect players to respond to that call and for players to be selected on merit and no favoritism.

4] I expect him to restore pride and honour to the club. No more laughing stock. Yes we may lose games but not for want of trying. I expect the fans to sing and every fan to support him.

5] I expect honesty to the fans and media and no silly excuses or moaning, like Jose was prone to do. If we play bad he will say so without singling out players. If he makes a mistake I expect he will hold his hands up.

6] I expect a couple of small clubs are going to get hammered with 4-5 goals. Ole said he wants the players to express themselves and for the strikers that means goals, even cheeky shots.

7] I expect massive improvement from the players who had downed tools for Jose. This does not mean the oldies will get any younger or the less skilled will suddenly become skilled BUT they will give 99% and Ole will set up shop to suit player skills.

8] As for results, I expect a good FA cup, sadly to be knocked out by PSG, and for us to make top 4 albeit narrowly.

9] I expect Ole to be given the job permanents, to start a new dynasty and one day have a statue outside OT.

10] I expect TT posters to disagree and to be proven right in my predictions (again) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@redblood – I dont think Ole will be involved in transfer in January and don’t expect any transfers to be done.

Mac – Wow! I’ve never seen you this positive, ever. It must feel good?
Actually it kind of gives me cause for concern – are you ok?!

Only joking, in a way it makes me feel positive too, over to Ole – let’s see if he can get us scoring some goals and having some fun!!

He won’t be clearing the deadwood redblood, that’ll be down to whoever the permanent manager is in the summer I guess. Maybe the odd exit, but I’m afraid the bulk of the dross will survive until at least the summer. As for expectstions of Ole, I have none really. Obviously he’ll be a welcome to the dressing room if the rumours about how much the majority disliked Mourinho are to be believed. But from an achievement perspective, I don’t see how he can make these players better than those at City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs, because they ain’t. Top four? It would be over achievement in my view and may even get him the job permanently. In many ways I hope we just limp through to the end of the season and restructure properly in the summer. If Ole gets them playing attractive football in the meantime, fine.

MacGuffin has already said most of what I wanted to say but in my opinion he shouldn’t be given the job permanently, right now there’s less pressure on him and he might actually do wonders, maybe beat Psg and go far in the CL, win the FA cup and somehow manage top 4 but what happens the next season or the season after? Anyone remember Di Matteo? I think Pochettino is the right man for the job..I still remember how he moved on 7 senior players at spurs in his first season, we need that kind of manager. I love solskjaer and I hope he brings back attacking football and show us the United of old but making him the manager is too big of a risk.

Libanski – My fear is that “The Club” seems somehow unwilling to let these players go. I’m pretty sure Jose Mourinho doesn’t think Chris Smalling is a world class centre back. When you consider the CB’s Jose has managed in his career, you’d have to say he worked with the worst he’s ever had – in his whole career – at United!

Jose spoke about Man Utd having to do things in a “balanced way” compared to City. Essentially he was telling us what the board were telling him – that he can maybe shift 1 or 2 players each year and bring in the same amount. It was clear there was going to be no such mass clear out and huge import of players – a la City. I don’t want to keep spitting out the same figures but i will say it one last time. City have bought 24 players and Liverpool 20 players in the same time that Jose has bought 11. He sold 4 players in his time! Rooney, Zlatan went on a free and Carrick retired. In the same time City have got rid of 20 players and Liverpool 17. Those really are the facts of the case in my eyes.

Darmian is a classic example. He and Blind were deemed surplus to requirements this summer, both were made available for transfer. According to a lot of people at least 2 more should have joined them, but we knew it was at least these 2. Blind went but, incredibly, Darmian stayed. Why? He’s not good enough! Would he still be at City or Liverpool?

There’s a wave of positivity at the moment and i think we should all ride it! But i just don’t see how this mindset of the club is going to change in the summer. Are they really going to ship out 7 or 8 players and invest hundreds of millions back in? That’s the reason we are where we are – it’s because city and liverpool managers have been backed to the hilt on player recruitment and sales. Moyes, LVG and Jose weren’t. It’s rumoured Ole will be given 50 million to spend in January – does that even buy one player in today’s market?!

What odds on Solskjaer winning the champions league as a manager 20 years after scoring the winning goal?

As for expectations, just to make football fun again. Mourinho, with his attitude and tactics had sucked all the fun out of watching Utd. If Solskjaer can bring an attacking style to the team, then we may not win all the time but at least there should be goals and entertainment.

I’m honestly not expecting anything from this season, so just praying for goals goals goals attacking football and youth. Instantly lifting the mood and making everyone excited.

Ole is a club legend with a lot of experience and I am confident he will unite the players and the fans. One of Mourinho’ biggest problems was his faltering relationships with the players. He called out individuals a number of times, something Ole – in theory – is less likely to do.

Solskjaer: “It’s not about the opposition, it’s about us. It’s about Man United, it’s about our players knowing what they can do, about our players expressing themselves. So our main focus will be on us, how I want us to play.”

    I’m sold.

Can’t wait for the Cardiff game.

I would be more concerned if we do sign players in Jan than if we dont. While there is no doubt we need an infusion of new blood (and an exodus of the serial underperformers), any signings in this window would confirm the narrative that ED has gone totally rogue and has become a self appointed coach/chief scout and decision maker on who we buy as opposed to for how much – where his role should start and end.
Ole should be able to quell the dressing room unrest and help the players get back to basics but anything above top 5 looks very unrealistic. The main focus these next few months should be readying the new footballing structure and identifying/securing the best candidates.
If a new manager us appointed in Jube and his first words include a reference to clean slate (Phil is on his 4th clean slate), you will know that Glazernomics is precluding the required clearout…..

Pretty much agree with all of the above, what will be just as interesting as the performance itself at Cardiff will be the running/sprint stats that come after the game. Apparently, we haven’t ‘won’ that department since we played Swansea last season and that is unforgivable by the players, irrespective of how toxic Mourinho’s reign had become.
We have some really rotten apples in that dressing room who think that they are bigger than the club and they need to be rooted out before the whole barrel turns sour, but that’s for another day. In the meantime Ole will get a free hit during his 6 months in charge and rightly so.

It’s critical that Ole gets of to a winning start. A few shit performances and results and the negativity will set in and we’ll be back to square one. Ole is saying all the right things but my biggest fear is the hunger and character of the squad.

@steveo – That’s just the sort of thing I was alluding to mate, Sanchez receives as much money in a week as an NHS nurse earns in 20 years working on a kiddies cancer ward and he thinks it’s big and clever to act the big twat, down tools and behave like this just because he hates Mourinho and wants him out.
It’s completely unforgivable and says more about the character of the ‘man’ than anything else and that’s why he and others like him need to be fucked off come the summer because they will only feel even more empowered now that they have got rid of Mourinho to do the same thing again the next time they don’t like the cut of the managers jib.

@happyhurling – Well you have to match the positivity against the expectation. I’m not expecting these players or the manager to challenge for PL CL honours. I’m expecting a happy atmosphere, attractive football and for everybody to give it their best shot in every game and for the manager to be realistic, honest and bring some smiles, some sunshine, into the club.

Ole has the character and profile for me. He can make his name at the club, not make it elsewhere and constantly remind everybody what he did elsewhere (like LvG and JM). He’ll make mistakes but the way I see it we should be making managers just like we aspire to make players. But you need the right material to start with. Here’s an example of Ole mentality. Talking about Fergie …..

“He’s influenced me with everything to be fair, the way he’s dealt with people, the way he was manager of the club, how he kept 25 international players happy and hungry wanting to improve but also the staff in and around the place, He’s been my mentor but I didn’t understand early on he’d be my mentor. Towards the end, maybe the injury in 2003, I was making all the notes what he did in certain situations. I’ve already been in touch with him, there’s no one to get better advice from.”

He took an interest in management and learning the craft 15 years ago. And he knows he still has a lot to learn and isn’t too proud to ask for advice !!!

This is transcript of his interview and the interview itself…. AND jeez he talks like a Manc.

@happyhurling – I’m sure Glazernomics is behind the policy of hanging onto deadwood as long as possible and minimizing activity in the transfer market. If you view it from an accounting cost perspective its cheaper. And if you talk about the signings of Pogba, Sanchez don’t forget these are marketing brands with large fan following so the commercial revenue means the cost from Ed’s perspective is much less. Pogba and 80m probably works out cheaper than Fred at 50m !!!

You keep talking about the number of players brought in (and let go) as if its bad or they have an unfair advantage. But that’s exactly what we should have done, got rid asap of players who don’t look like they will make it and try somebody else. Depay & Schneiderlin were for me perfect examples of how it should be done. 2 years then sell while we can still recoup most of the fee. Your job-for-life attitude is part of the reason the team is shite and there’s no commitment.
