@happy, my only issue with getting “United” people is that, although they understand the club, they may not necessarily be the right people for the job. It’s one thing to say they have United DNA but the people to get the jobs should be the people who understand or ‘get’ our DNA but are best qualified to instill or reinforce that idea/message in the players. Jobs for the boys can be a disaster if overutilised or not utilised properly.

That’s very true Killy. Nepotism can be a complete disaster however we’ve tried appointing a manager with PL experience and no club ties, a foreign manager with a philosophy and one of the most successful managers of all time and they have all failed. This is the forth reboot since SAF left bringing back people who used to work with him seems like a sensible option if we are not going to address the bigger elephants in the room (the incompetence and greed of Woodward and the Glazers).
Ole doesn’t have much elite level experience but I think he’ll learn. The players signed by Ole are all looking good at the moment – something of a rarity for one of our transfer windows! The performances of the team will be very up and down while the youngsters gain experience and while Ole learns to make effective substitutions.

No doubt we have a thin squad but I prefer to see Gomes and Greenwood given a chance than Lukaku and Sanchez stinking the place out. Youth is what made Man Utd we all know that so we’ll continue to develop our youth players and give them every chance.. if that means winning nothing for few seasons then so be it.

They are all talented kids & good luck to them all. They have a very hard road ahead of them. Some of them may be loaned out to get experience during the season. Tuanzebe had a very good loan season at Villa last year & I’ll be looking forward to watching him. He was sent to Villa as an R/B & to get used to playing in front of big crowds, he came back as a C/B after a year working with John Terry, that’s cool. We are all looking forward to watching Greenwood he’s a special talent. This is a nice group of young players & hopefully, we can see them develop into top players at OT.

We’d all love to see our youngsters make it at United but the danger is throwing them into a team almost completely bereft of character and leadership. The class of 92 had a lot of seasoned professionals and serial winners to guide them and shoulder the pressure. Who have the current crop got to look up? There is no one in the team to set the standard and be an example for the kids.

Well said roygbiv but what else can be done. Buying seasoned professionals would cost an arm and a leg and even then they wouldn’t be serial winners at United.

This is what happens as a result of Glazers running down the team by failing to maintain it when it was strong.

@Mac, yes there’s not much we can do now because of the clubs failure to plan ahead and now we find ourselves in an allmighty mess. I think Maguire will be a leader once he settles down and we need to get rid of Pogba’s disruptive influence. I’m a fan of Ruben Neves and Fabian Ruiz and both have shown plenty of leadership qualities despite their young age.

tMA, I have no issue with the players being sold its the incomings that are the problem. Three more additions would not have hindered the youngsters. We are still playing Young, Mata/Lingard, Perrera and McTominay. In a best case scenario and nobody gets injured we are still light.

In terms of transfers I can’t see how Ole can be blamed at all. He should be praised. Got rid of 7 players (albeit Herrera was arguably a player who shouldn’t have left) and brought in 3 young hungry british players. All of which have started well for us.

He’s also promoted Greenwood and has shown faith in players such as McTominay and Martial.

He didn’t sign players who he didn’t think would join for anything else other than money.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isnt that what you all wanted in terms of transfers? Get rid of deadwood and bring in young hungry players?

My only concern is the inability to break teams down. We seem to have no clue what to do in the final third. Thats a coaching issue for me. It’s a massive problem at the minute. Players have the ability but they don’t all have footballing brains so need to be told what to do and where to run, etc. Pep and Klopp are the masters at it in our league. We need to sort it out pronto.

Theres also the issue of keeping clean sheets. Stupid mistakes are costing us goals every game.

A creative midfielder or two is a must in Jan.

It’ll never be said publicly but looking at the summer window (approx £60 million net spend and wage bill down by best part of £500k per week) I think the Glazers will be happy with a top 6 finish and Europa league football next season

Just reading Matic’s comments today about it being Ole’s fault if United don’t challenge for the title.

Firstly, it will never be completely Ole’s fault as he hasn’t been given the time or funds to transfer the very weak team. Secondly, this stink of Matic trying to play the blame game on Ole for him not playing even though it’s his rubbish performances so far that is seeing him on the bench.

This kind of player power is part of what is feeding the current issues we are having: if I were Ole I’d move him on next summer and bring in two midfielders (one in Jan and one next summer) or maybe even three!

Sympathy-Matic should have been moved on last summer. He is rubbish and so past his best…

    #1780870

@redblood – to be honest I didn’t think he was atrocious last season (though not as good as the previous season, he was still performing better than Fred for example).

With that said, it was clear from pre-season that his legs had gone and we should have taken the opportunity to cash in on him and maybe get him somebody younger. Another missed opportunity.
