I really enjoyed seeing some of the youth in action against the Gills last night; In particular Harry Winks, who looks so comfortable on the ball. Also, Marcus Edwards, who can dribble with the ball like it’s glued to his feet, for me, is a joy to watch. Would like to have seen us up against another lower opposition team in the next round, so I could get another look at them, but here is the question: Would you play the team from last night against Liverpool in the next round?

Fully agree with you Marky. To comment on the others, CCV looked composed but was never tested. N’Koudou looks like a natural wide man, something we severely lack. Anton looked decent at LB for the short time he was on. Carroll just confirmed why he needs to leave, not up to standard. We can see the development Onomah, he looked good on the ball linked up well and seems to be stronger on the ball than what he once was.

Janssen looked like a great target man. He will find his shooting boots but his strength on the ball and link up play that were crucial to our AM’s playing so well. Lamela didn’t play fantastic and yet bagged a goal and 3 assists. A great never say die attitude, I can see him developing into a real cult hero.

I’d probably play the majority of the team last night with Victor next to Winks to strengthen the spine of the team.

Agree totally. Maybe Harry’s injury could be a blessing in disguise; he gets a well earned rest ( and recovery) and Janssen gets the time to fit into how we play and bag some goals. As you mentioned, he has superb link up play, so am very optimistic about his future with us. COYS!

Loved Janssens commitment. There was one point in first half he shot, it was cleared, and he bounced up and chased the defender down – fantastic!

A bit worried about him. Don’t want to be alarmist, but he did miss a few very decent chances on the night.

Don’t want to see another Soldado at The Lane!

Winks looked very assured but Gillingham didn’t offer much opposition in midfield or anywhere on the pitch for that matter.

Don’t get all the criticism of Carroll! He’s not a first teamer but he keeps play ticking over and is a very useful squad player to have.

Need to see Wimmer playing more games to keep him happy. I know centre back rotation is not ideal for the team, but he is a real asset to the team – now and for the future.

Poch has got to rotate to keep the (all) players happy. If not, then the way we play will see us burn out again, and players leave who are too good to lose.
