What’s people’s take on the win last night – possible hope or too little to late? On the old Teamtalk site there would have been a glut of postings by now – this new forum doesn’t seem to be taking off.

Having watched quite a few games over the course of the season this was definitely our best performance. The players battled, harried, and closed down the Palace players not just for there usual 20 minutes but for the entire 90. Equally we passed the ball far better and with more confidence especially in midfield.

Both Sherwood and Garde have struggled to find a winning formation this saeason and while most fans could see a 4-4-2 or last nights diamond formation incorporating 2 strikers was the way forward, both managers thought better of it… until last night 🙂

Kozak has scored in pre-season games and during recent U21 outings so he deserved a start ahead of the very flat Gestede and hopefully over the coming weeks he will form a useful partnership with the impressive Ayew!

Someone once said football is ‘a funny old game’ and while we are still mathematically able to stave off relegation the truth is we’ve left it too late!

Great to see a victory at VP!

in the words of John Cleese in Clockwise ‘ The despair, I can handle the despair, its the hope I cant stand..!’

If Villa and I know its a huge IF baring in mind our next game is against top of the league, but IF we win our next 2 games we are on exactly the same points tally after 23 games as Leicester were last season, and they finsished 5 points clear of drop zone.

WBA in 04/05 were on less points after 23 games and stayed up..

    so there is HOPE but…

Just watched the highlights on AVTV. my opinion – Cissokho a vast improvement on the player he was when here before also a vast improvement on Richardson.
Whatever happens at the end of the season (i think we will still go down) we need to keep
Veretout, Ayew, Ghana, Kozac (the best centre forward performance by a Villan this year and still young)Amavi.
We need to keep Bacuna for his versatility,
We must keep Okore, Bunn, Westwood and Gil hopefully will be kept although not sure if he will stay.
We will need some experience like Lescott (not sure if he has another season in him though). Hutton & Richards would be good in the championship.
Agbonlahor, Clark, Richardson, Gestede, Crespo, Sinclair, Baker, Bennett, N’zogbia, should be got rid of.
the youngsters currently in the squad need to either step up to the plate or be let go. If our academy is so good as people say, where is our Harry Kane, Deli Ali,Tom Carroll,Eric Dier, John Stones, etc. When was the last top class villa academy graduate. (Kieren Clarke,& Jack the lad do not qualify as top class).

cissokho is a proper left back , the only one weve had for ages , and should never have been let go – the difference he has made is crucial..

okore and lescott are are best pairing now , so richards will have to play RB .

    bacuna played well .

westwood has little talent at this level , bench only .

veretout is good going forward but not defensively.

gana isnt much good going forward so should be played in defensive role .

kozak looks a far better prospect than gestede , even when very rusty and not match fit showed he can play , and he can get goals , may form a partnership with ayew , why garde has sidelined him is a mystery .

we deserved this win , but needed luck to get it , a big step up from the front men is vital , we must get goals to win .

nzogbia has been a dreadful and costly investment , but i would keep agbon and richardson and clark , useful squad men , and agbon can win matches which is what we need , we must keep all our attacking options open now including sinclair and gestede .

and i prefer guzan , bunn is lightweight .
