    Ahem.

It’s fun being top, but it’ll be a surprise if it lasts beyond next weekend. Like Rob I think we’ll drop points against Man U and although Everton played well against us, they always roll over when they play our rivals. The season is still not half way and there will be plenty of twists and turns. Having Keita and Fabinho finding form is going to be a big boost for us heading into the new year.

I still have city as favourites for the title. The way they played in the 1st 40 mins against ch3lsea not many teams in the league can live with it.

They shouldve been 2 up before chelsea scored.

True, not many teams can live with Man City playing like they did yesterday. The thing is, for all their huffing and puffing, they didn’t break Chelsea down too many times. This is a Chelsea who’s defence that’s taken some flak this season, from their own fans. Now, in this opening 40 minutes, ball retention was at a premium. City were HOUNDING THEM. The goal changed it though and Man City’s response said it all.

A goal went in against the run of play and City were rocked. They saw the half out and I thought to myself that either team could come out strong and that maybe even both would and the opening few minutes would be interesting. It’s Chelsea who were in the ascendancy though. They started getting at City and the dominance was completely broken. It only took one goal for this to happen, the 2nd came when Chelsea had been on top for some time and it just secured the points. Apologies if I made this point above, I can’t remember but.. Last season, City didn’t have the kind of mental game that every other team must go through to win the PL. They started strong and were away before the pressure would have set in. Their character was tested here though, first with us winning and then with Chelsea’s goal against the run of play and they failed that test for me.

I watched the entire match and being without Aguero and De Bruyne is going to take a toll on your attack (of course). I think they were reaching a point where it was in the back of their minds that they probably should have scored by now and bam. That goal sucked the life and purpose out of them. It happened once and it could happen again. Maybe this is the season where they are tested more thoroughly and we’ll see how they deal with it.

As for us, I won’t surrender next weeks game. We know the usual way with Jose and even with Utd, they step up their game when they play us but we’re a different fish now. I don’t think the anti-football works that well against us anymore. We’re stronger at the back now too, so although I’m expecting a resurgent Utd, I also think we can take 3 points off them. I too still tip Man City to win the title but I’ll be damned if I write us off and these are the kinds of games that we’ve got to win if we want to remain in the conversation.

They are all games we’ve got to win if we want to stay in it. Man city have made this pretty clear. Let’s not forget that we went to Stamford Bridge and came away with a point. We’re the only undefeated team left in the league and we are where we are on merit. I think we’re starting to click too, showing signs of shifting up at least 1 gear the last day. The loss of Gomez could turn out to be really painful for us but thankfully it’s only for 6 weeks and not 9 months.

A lot is going well for us and it’s feckin fantastic. We still have the chance to progress in the CL. It’s all in our hands. We’re top of the table with Man Utd at Anfield then on the weekend. it’s only enjoyable if something is on the line. We might have nothing to show for this season besides making the Pl slightly interesting, giving the Man City fans a sense of achievement that they didn’t get last term, when we make them fight for their dinner!!!

City yesterday had the shades of Bayern under Guardiola, not much end product but lots of possession. Some fans here have some doubt on Ox’s capacity to get back to his best that also applies to KDB so don’t think he will be able to weigh as much as he had last season.

The Bournemouth match erased any tiny doubt that I had on our title credentials. Consummate performance comes to mind after that display.

One important but overlooked aspect is that most of our players bar Milner are at the height of their physical capacity and that may prove a decisive advantage as Silva, Fernandiho and Aguero are not getting any younger. The wily fox Ian Wright has sensed that as well as Keown as they tipped us to win the title.

Wishfull thinking but maybe for all Man City dominance and great football they stuill had us gring out wins. Now they have lost their unbeaten run, a pschcologial blow? We know we can play defensively, but can city? If you get at city they are there to be taken, most teams dont do that though. Chelsea proved that if you get at them they can be broken down. Klopp is smart focusing on defense this year has given us an edge maybe.

Long way to go yet fellas and City will be a much stronger proposition when they have all of Aguero,KDB and Mendy back. Should Salah, Mane and Robertson all be out of the Liverpool team for a while it would have an impact too. Going to be interesting for us neutrals though.😊

I’ll only begin to believe in this title talk if we beat both Arsenal and City

You can only realistically start talking about the title if you are well ahead in the table with just a few games to play e.g. in April. Talking about it now is far too early.

Problem is, in football anything can happen – a key player can get injured, you could lose a few games in a row etc.

And you can never write off our main opponents either, as they all want to win the title, and are capable of doing so.

Thus for me, Liverpool simply have to keep taking it one game at a time, and try and amass as many points as possible sooner rather than later, preferably before the CL resumes in February

Yep Ned, couldn’t be happier but City were ahead of us a couple of weeks ago and now they’re 7 points behind.. anything can happen, key injuries, bad luck, decisions against you etc.

Something’s clearly not right at City. To lose 3 in 4 league games would have been unheard of at the start of the season. By no means righting them off, but it would indicate that whatever problems they’re having won’t be resolved immediately. Ourselves and Spurs continue to match forwards. In the next two games, if we ca….I won’t say it 🙂

Thankfully we have Arsenal at home and the crowd will make a difference. Three points there would be huge as it will mean that no matter what happens at City, we’ll still have points in hand.

I’d be surprised if we don’t beat Arsenal. We sat back too much and just let them press us away. If we manage to win both, then the expectations will massively increase.

Just read that Salah could be banned for 2 games if a panel finds him guilty of diving for the penalty ??? 😯😬😬

The pen did look kind of soft. Thats 2 games against arsenal n city. Fuck.

We’re favourites now, wether we like it or not. It’s an uncomfortable thought, especially facing into 2 incredibly tough fixtures that could bring us right back down to earth.

My suggestion is to really soak it in and enjoy it while you can. We could lose the next 2 no problem.

Reds, it was a dive and he would deserve it. I said it to my brother in law and he exclaimed that he didn’t care. In some situations I’d definitely be hooked into the same mentality but I wasn’t here, maybe because we were already winning.

I don’t want us to be cheats. Going down a little easy us ok but there was almost nothing at all here. It was a pretty shameful dive.

I still hope Salah isn’t banned but a word needs to be had.
