It has been a long time since I have posted on here but after last night I felt the need to.

The club is in disarray. Exposed manager more defensive of his position by the days, divas who are only interested in picking up their paycheck and not earning it, and fans who have never felt more disconnected with a squad that had potential to win a trophy, even a tin pot one.

Poch has been found out and no this is not an overreaction. Inconsistent tactics and team selections, poor in-game judgment but the occasional decent win will apparently tape over the cracks. A couple of the aspects of Poch’s reign that he has been widely praised for can be easily pulled apart.

    1) Development of players/youth: This is by far the most widely held myth that Poch has brought on much of the current squad from what they were. No, this is called development by experience. Much of the squad when Poch arrived such as Vertonghen, Eriksen & Lloris were entering their peak years or building on the previous season by first team exposure. A few examples of horrific development would be Alli, Trippier, Dier, Wanyama and Sanchez. All initially improved but over the years each has seen their form plummet and the resulting game time decrease. The performances of Trippier for Atletico Madrid this season uphold this, a good manager coaches him. Dier went from a good DM prospect to a lump who cannot run. Alli went from scoring beautiful goals to being anonymous. Sanchez was arguably the best CB prospect in Europe, only in front of De Ligt on an age basis, and now he looks erratic and unsure. One player who has also regressed arguably is Kane as his all round play is very good, able to create a good number of opportunities for others, however Poch needs to say to him to refrain from getting so involved and be the focal point. Often Kane drops deep to collect the ball and looks up to see where the outlet is although there isn’t one. He is the outlet meaning our attack stutters and we struggle to breakdown defensive teams. A good role model for him in this respect would be Firmino who hold the ball up well, is still mobile and yet creates good opportunities, however Poch will not want to upset his star man.

    2) Use of English players: Happened to be a club with a decent amount of internationals or good prospects on brink of first team football. Since then only KWP (barely used) and Skipp (who actually looks good and should keep Wanyama away) have had consistent exposure. Complete nonsense that he has played a significant role in the England squad selection over the past few years.

    3) Man management & Transfers: This summer truly exposed how bad things have become. The likes of Aurier, Rose and Wanyama were told to find new clubs yet none were sold. Professionally this should not affect your performances however this is demoralizing and negatively impact the players mental state. The likes of Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Eriksen all have one year left and not enough has been done to retain their services or sell them before losing them next summer on a free. Where is the Lloris replacement that has been needed for a number of years? The visible connection between the players and Poch has been lost, both on and off the pitch.

One thing I will never understand is how fans can see the issues of the team yet the coaches do not, or do not listen.

Poch, many thanks for the good times but I think it is time to go. We need a winning manager such as Allegri or Mourinho. It may not be pretty football but what we need is a winning mentality to break this current cycle of fragility.

i feel your pain mate and things are definatly not right, is it Poch or is it the board thouhg, seems Poch has been getting increasingly unhappy himself, no buys last year and this year states he doesnt choose who comes in as he is juyst a coach not a manager

we have similar frustrations and beggars belief (as it did under AW) how the world can see failings but a manager cant, ours is defence and neither AW or noe Emery has done anything form a player, coaching or tacticle point to justify keeping their jobs!

other than maybe Allegri though, who would you realistically want as a replacement?

I think Poch has taken spurs as far as they can go. They lose to many Games and I agree some players have regressed but Kane is still doing his job. Scoring goals.

I agree about Sanchez. Looked very good for a while but why sell trippier and not replace him? They wanted Aurier out and had Sanchez at right back? Kwp was doing ok.

Strange what’s going on. Nmbomble hasn’t played as much. No proper holding player as winks is more of a ball player

Steveo – to be honest I don’t know what to believe from Poch as he definitely would of wanted Lo Celso. I would happily take Mourinho at this rate, proven winner. Xavi has expressed interest but needs a different job to convince the majority, although he will be going to Barcelona with the way things are going there at the moment. One option that I think would be very interesting would be Marcelino, unfairly sacked by the Valencia hierarchy and well respected.

Is Steve Bould still on the coaching staff for your lot? It seems that when Rice left the club the defensive cohesion side also did.

Bould has gone mate, no idea what he did anyway, he was the number 2 for some time and our defense got worse, is that him or the manager stopping him?

concidering the wealth of defenders we used to have you would have thought at least some of that knowledge would be available but i think AW did a real number, he never bothered with defense in the last 10 years and hence we are where we are, the fact a new man comes in and does the same thing tho is worrying…tho we do still need to have our injured players back..hopefully once they are and stay fit it will need only a few tweaks in the summer to improve and add some good cover

Poch acknowledged the problems with the squad last night and is talking about spending in January the problem with that of course is that it’s historically very difficult to buy the players you want in the January transfer window.

Overall Spurs are suffering from a lack of investment in a squad thwt needed rejuvenating with several players coming to the end of their contracts to and likely to leave on a free.

I tipped Spurs to win a domestic Cup this season but that’s just got harder.

As Arsenal have found to their cost shiny new Stadiums are no good if you don’t have the right team and players to go with it.

Also the constant speculation re Poch hasn’t helped Spurs either this is what he said when asked the question about Real Madrid at the FIFA Awards the other night “Coach Real Madrid? Maybe some year.” A throw away remark? Or the wrong response?

Although even if a parting of the ways might be beneficial both Club and Manager are now locked into an expensive long term contract which is probably difficult to negotiate their way out of on both sides.

Exposed? Found out? Those are big words! The guy has achieved incredible results with very little investment. Got them within a win of taking the champions league.
Ive admired Poch and what he has done at Spurs. I believe Spurs are 4 or 5 decent squad players away from being a title challenging team. Guarantee, if Spurs sack him Manure will be straight in for him and watch them become a force again

You can only overachieve with a club for so long. No doubt he has done a great job but he was very lucky to have a young Harry Kane waiting in the wings when he joined. If you take away Harry Kane for the past 5 years Spurs would be nowhere near the top 4 with or without Pochettino at the helm

Foxyfoxes – totally agree with everything you say, Poch has benefitted from a number of players playing out of their skins. If you look at his recruitment it has been very hit and miss, more so the latter.

NOLU – Oh very much so, however you could say that about most teams to be fair. Kane just shows what you can do with practise and determination, he wasn’t prolific at any loan spell and any substitute appearance he looked unable to raise his game but fair play to the man.

Update: After last night, Poch has been definitely exposed. The pathetic tactics, the lack of in-game management to resolve the issue of no protection for the full backs, and the very bizarre interview. You could see he was angry from his stance and he claimed we were the better team for 30 mins. Clearly he forgot the save Hugo had to make less than 90 seconds in.

Levy will not sack him for one clear reason, money. Man Utd and Real Madrid have their own troubles right now so why fire Poch when you can wait for one of those teams to pay a compensation fee. I will always have a fondness for Poch but to not sour his record and the mixed progress he has brought, although mostly good, he needs to leave now. Thank you Mauricio and good luck.

There’s a lot that needs sorting out at Spurs that goes deeper than just Poch who is no longer the hot property that he once was and even if he was available I’m not sure even before this defeat United or Real would move for him now.

Changing the Manager may not be the right solution and it would cost Spurs over £30m to pay him off even if that’s what they wanted to do.

The sensible strategy is probably to sort out the rebels get rid of the deadwood and back Poch in the transfer market.

I suspect last night was a bit of a one off and Spurs can still get out of the Group from there though they would probably draw one of the big dogs which will be a test for them this season and dropping into the EL may not be the worst thing that could happen to them and who knows they might go on to win the EL.

Interesting times at Spurs brilliant Stadium but the squad is in need of rejuvenation and Kane has said he wants to win trophies?

I reckon the defeat in the final is still hurting him, since then he has had such a defeatist point of view in regards to everything… I reckon he will be gone by December and Kane might leave next summer.

Bit of a perfect storm going on there at the moment. not convinced teh manager wants to saty, several players out of contract in the summer and probably want out. No trophies so will those under contract want out anyway. No monet spent the summer before this one so is that catching up too?

Poch seems to come in, change the style, get results and start to give hope and then it falls away.

Still enjoy the style of play though, and you’d take the players who are out of contact this summer. New signings havn’t pulled up trees though, but that’s early days.

Not sure he has been found out, but he is certainly ot doing himself any favours this season.

Klopp was having a ‘mare at Dortmund before he walked. He’s clearly learned a thing or two from that episode. As a Man Utd fan, if we did snap him up I think we’d have a much better coach than Poch was when he arrived at Spurs.
