Hopefully we see a much improved performance on Monday night than the lack lustre display we saw on Thursday. Our poor defending was again exposed by Everton and Olympiakos, we cannot have a repeat on the south coast otherwise we might experience another embarrassing exit from a cup competition from a match that should be a cakewalk. It will be interesting to see the team selection.

What is this obsession of playing a centre half as right back. AMN is on the bench. Surely it makes us to obvious that Saka will be the attacking option. I like Arteta and I know Cedric is not fit but we have other options !

Arteta clearly doesn’t rate AMN, certainly not at full back. I expected to see him at left back as that’s where he played for the under 23s and surely Saka needs a rest. Still hopefully we’ll have enough to win.

Arteta leaves out Leno, Bellerin, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Ozil, Pepe, Lacazette, Abameyang, although obviously some of those players weren’t fit to play. Brings in Martinez, Sokratis, Mari, Saka, Willock, Torreira, Nelson, Martinelli and Nketiah and we get a much more determined pacy, energetic performance. Compare the home grown pacy skilful Nelson who was brilliant last night with Pepe who cost £72m, compare the pacy energetic Nketiah with Lacazette, compare the pacy energetic Willock with the couldn’t care less £350,000 per week Ozil. Had more of this side played against Olympiakos we would have won. Portsmouth has always been a tough place t go but but our brilliant youngsters were up to it. Tonight’s side were running, pressing and fighting right until the end. Do we need any more evidence that Mustafi, Xhaka, Ozil and Lacazette need to be dumped in the summer.
