How many times have we missed out on signings because he wouldn’t cough up an extra few quid? He deserves praise for this and getting Sissoko, at an inflated pricetag, however he is what we needed. Inconsistent but if we get the best out of him we will have a very good player on our hands with power and strength, something we lacked with the likes of Carroll, Mason and Chadli. Levy has managed to get a great price for these two as well and I think they will do well at their respective clubs.

We have made fantastic signings so far this summer and minus the Sissoko deal, we haven’t overspent on each player. We have 4 fantastic young signings (5 if you include the Columbian youngster) and an international player coming into his prime. For once I feel that we have an excellent first XI, strength on the bench as well and talent waiting in the wings in order to compete effectively in all competitions. COYS!

Agreed.Along with everyone else I’ve given Levy my fair share of stick for hie parsimony in the past but this time “the boy done good”!

Agree, DL has had a good window. I think we have paid a over the top for Sissoko but is he better than what we had.. Yes he is. The squad is stronger and Poch will have full confidence in rotating the team, no more passengers been carried.

We will have match winners on the pitch and sat on the bench if called upon. Right now you could only name the keeper, back 4, Dembele and Kane as most likely starters in my opinion. Other 4 players are anyone’s guess as they are all equally as good.

We have a lot comps to get through, I really fancy us to have a successful season.

I am split 50/50 on this. For Mason, I think we are fickle fans, he was progressing very well last season. Had some time on the bench and then brought on late against Chelsea, ok it was a clear cut chance that he should have ploughed into a corner of the net but its all we remember. Overall his progress last season was very good but all we remember is that chance. So there is big potential there. Chadli was proven end product on tap and also improving. So we have lost two guys with good potential for one.

However…. whatever about Sissoko in the euros, how about against us last game? he carved us open like no other player last year, his performance was the catalyst for that result. Great player on his day and to be honest have not seen him have a bad game (don’t watch Newcastle), although I take the barcodes word for it that he is hit and miss.

I have no opinion if it was the right decision or not, only time will tell. I am surprised Levy took the risk to be honest, good to see his modus operandi is not so heavily ingrained as we thought.

With regards to Sissoko, and with no disrespect to the Barcodes, he’s going to have to be on top of his game week in week out to stay in the team and we all know what he can do when you wants too. We have a much better squad than the barcodes, and Sissoko knows this surely, hopefully we’ll see a lot more of ‘good’ Sissoko…..

I hate to be a party pooper, but praise Levy for what? Backing the manager by buying players to fit gaps and increase options in the squad?…. as far as I’m concerned, he did what should have been expected.

Wait until Sissoko is settled and then you’ll see the real one (Lazy good for nothing) The only person who believes his hype is Sissoko. Deli is a far better player as you will see

    Bren,
Of course you’re absolutely right. Levy has done exactly what he should do in this window. Indeed exactly what he should have been doing in every transfer window since he became Chairman. It’s not entirely unreasonable, one might imagine, to view his primary role at the Club as a facilitator for the manager to be able to achieve the best possible chance of on field success. We are after all a football club! Having said that, and given his determination over several years to prioritise financial success over silverware success, surely we’re all right to celebrate this apparent epiphany!!

I’m a bit cranky today, Bloggs, and picking holes in everything 🙂

I’m still sceptical when I see Levy back his manager like this as leopards don’t change their spots so easily. We’ve seen so many supposedly done deals slip away at the 11th hour because Levy threw in a discount demand. Previous windows have always reminded me of those moments in Bullseye when they’d roll out the main prize in front of the losing finalist and Jim Bowen would cry “Take a look at what you could’ve won. Ooh. Take it back lads.”

Anyway, time will tell if this was indeed a good window, and not a false positive like the time he spent Bale money to great applause.

brenlong – I do understand where you’re coming from but unfortunately Levy isn’t the average chairman. He is as brilliant as he is frustrating. Levy has backed the manager for once when we haven’t sold as much as we bought. We need options in the squad and I’m sure Poch had a list of the candidates of which Levy delivered, without settling for offcuts. I have to admit I have warmed to N’Koudou as his personality is quite light hearted as is the rest of the squad. Let’s be happy that Levy and Poch got the deals we needed in order for us to compete this season.

    As Tony Montana said

“First you get the power and then you get the ****”

That is now one powerful midfield and I can see Poch playing a combination of Wanyama, Sissoko, Dembele and Dier at some point to shut down games especially against Chelsea, City and United. This was something we lacked in the Capital One Final against Chelsea and at 0-2 up against Chelsea last season, so Poch now has the options of flair and power. The deal is also £6m a season to Newcastle while Sissoko is our player apparently

As much as I don’t like giving any credit to old egg-head, I think he done alright this window.

Striker to help Kane: Done – Janssen – was my choice over batman all along.

Defensive midfield to help Dier: Done – Wanyama – trusted by Poch and can play CH also.

A pacey winger to give us a different option – Done – N’koudou – looks the part so just hope those skills work in the Prem. Protracted signing and none of us knows really if that was Levy’s fault.

A more direct pacy midfielder to add options – Done – Sissoko – can be sensational. When we make that 70th minute sub, how much more exciting will it be to see him coming on instead of Chadli or Mason or Carroll.

Need to shed deadwood – Done – Maso, Chadli, Pritchard, Bentaleb, Townsend all gone. Carroll was hard to shift.

Would have been icing to get Isco but Levy did try so did show ambition. I give him 7/10 for this window.
