Morata is going to be short of confidence his entire career then the stats and my eyes don’t lie.August 8, 2018 at 4:17 pm #1663187
Bort – Accept your opinion but truly hope you are wrong – for all our sakes…!! KTBFFHAugust 8, 2018 at 4:36 pm #1663192
Blaze: can’t see us using a false striker. Eden Hazard does not like to play there. I am with bort about Morata. He just isn’t a prolific goalscorer. And so is Giroud. There are strikers like that. That’s why I hope Michy staying around.
Our pre-season is simply bad. 1 win from 5 matches. And only 3 goals scored. And I read that we’re physically not good as Sarri focused more on tactics.August 9, 2018 at 8:26 am #1663383

Aindro, players coming back from the World Cup in drips and drabs 6 returned only on Monday, problems surrounding Hazard, Courtois and Willian, a new Manager and a new system our pre season was never going to be great. I think it will take another month or two yet before we see the true Chelsea for this season.August 9, 2018 at 10:33 am #1663479
In his programme notes on Tuesday Sarri asked for patience and yesterday he was “quoted” as stating it could take up to 3 months for everyone to adapt to his requirements
We know that Jorginho should not be an issue apart from adapting to the physicality of the EPL but you hope that the remainder of our squad are professional enough to quickly understand what is being expected of them but may take longer to implement these ideas, especially if this involves a significant change to their natural game
Any pre season after a WC is always difficult but this one was compounded by the fact it took so long to get Sarri actually through the door. I would argue that results should not be seen as a barometer for how the season will pan out as primarily pre season is about regaining fitness and in our case this year, allowing the new manager to view and assess his new squad plus coach them in his methods and expectations. 999 & CFC1905: I agree. But it’s not only with us. Other teams experience the same thing. City, Utd, Spurs, Liverpool etc. Players coming back late from WC, transfer window tight due to WC, etc. For me, we did not score more against Perth, we only scored 3 in 5 pre-season matches: it’s simply bad, no need to get any excuse. Our attack is disjointed and there’s no chemistry even though Morata, Pedro: they’ve been playing together for at least 1 season. I am just afraid we’ll make the same mistake as last season. Did not score enough.August 9, 2018 at 1:52 pm #1663657

Aindro, the likely front three are going to be Hazard,Morata and Willian and the midfield three are likely to be Kovacic Jorginho and Kante how many of them started in our pre season games?
Nobody is making any excuses we all agree we have got a problem in the striker position without Morata starts scoring but it’s Sarri’s job to sort that out just as he did at Napoli.
Last season we finished up 5 points off of 4th place and the team is stronger than it was last season with Jorginho and Kovacic in midfield alongside Kante quick looks about the strongest in the PL and the emergence of Hudson Odoi and we’ve shed the problems Conte was creating.
This team is quite capable of closing that gap. I’m looking forward to the season and I think we’ll give getting into the top 4 a real go.
If not we’re favourites for the Europa League!😊August 9, 2018 at 3:26 pm #1663724
Aindro – players coming back from the WC is a problem globally but not all these teams installed a new manager after such a protracted delay and have transfer concerns over their 3 main players in the squad
We all know that scoring goals was our Achilles heel last season and looks to be an issue we continue to face. However, it was Sarri who turned Higuain into the striker he became and is today so the general concesus of opinion (or hope…!!) is that Sarri can do the same for Morata
I would also say that Morata will not have to be seen as the out and out target man always taking the ball with his back to goal. If what I have read about Sarri is correct then this football is more likely to be to feet and into channels which I think will suit Morata better – but until I see the goals, who knows…? KTBFFH
