Thought I’d start another thread as I have done previously on just pre-season games.
Our first match is Tuesday, kick off 2pm in Bangkok against Man U. Expecting to see debuts for Nunez (gonna predict will score) and Carvalho.
Kelleher isn’t in the squad for some reason so likely a start for Adrian. Here’s the current tour squad:
Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Bajcetic, Carvalho, Chambers, Clark, Clarkson, H. Davies, Diaz, Elliott, Fabinho, Firmino, Frauendorf, Gomez, Henderson, Hill, Jones, Jota, Keita, Konate, Mabaya, Matip, Milner, Morton, Mrozek, Norris, Nunez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Phillips, Robertson, Salah, Thiago, Tsimikas, Van den Berg, Van Dijk, R. Williams.July 10, 2022 at 5:21 pm #2112559
Hopefully this has nothing to do with any potential moves or Kelleher.July 10, 2022 at 5:56 pm #2112565
Kelleher is a starting keeper somewhere else. I’m sure it’s great being an understudy to Alisson but the #1 target for any keeper is to be the main man. The lad would be worth a few bob too on the open market.
I’m sure it’s simply fitness related but if it’s not, it’s sure odd that the #2 keeper didn’t travel for pre season.July 10, 2022 at 6:18 pm #2112572July 10, 2022 at 8:50 pm #2112593
Thanks Ginger but still a wee bit nebulous regarding Kelleher. Just not taking any risks I guess the #1 reason.July 11, 2022 at 7:15 am #2112611
Ya, we’ve got to appreciate him while we have him and then of course when he does go, we’ll get a very tidy amount of money.
Hopefully he’ll have another season of long runs in the domestic cups and maybe even a CL match when affordable. I’ve said this before and would love to say 2-3 Pl matches but we can’t risk losing any points in the PL just to keep a backup keeper happy. That’s where the line must be drawn and some day it won’t be enough to keep him.
If Alisson does pick up an injury (as he has done in the past) we’ve got this guy instead of Adrian… that’s worth so much to us. I guess we could always bump up his contract next summer. It’s the one position where I’d be ok with paying a fully backup player semi-significant wages. He’s probably not on much right now either.July 11, 2022 at 10:29 am #2112677
Pre-season usually means nothing to me, but tomorrow, come on, we’ve got to beat United, so let’s do it.
Btw it seems that most/all Liverpool players were keeping very fit, even before pre-season, at training camps, or working with personal trainers e.g. Van Dik (with his mate Ake), Jones, Henderson, Ox and Alisson.July 11, 2022 at 4:35 pm #2112833
Nunez sat out the remaining of open training today with a foot issue.July 12, 2022 at 12:45 pm #2113108
Alisson, Mabaya, Phillips, Gomez, Chambers, Henderson, Morton, Carvalho, Elliott, Diaz, Firmino.
Not a strong starting line up (unlike our opponents), but plenty of strength on the bench, to hopefully deliver the win.July 12, 2022 at 2:33 pm #2113177
Philips having a bit of a mare.July 12, 2022 at 2:35 pm #2113179
Klopp being way too clever here, trying to fit in 3 teams in 90 mins, and look at the dire consequences. United just kept it simple, and played their strongest team from the start.July 12, 2022 at 2:36 pm #2113181
It’s a friendly.
The purpose is to get game time into players legs.July 12, 2022 at 2:37 pm #2113184
It might be but let’s not get absolutely hammered in the process.July 12, 2022 at 2:37 pm #2113185
“It’s a friendly.” They’re no friendlies against United.July 12, 2022 at 2:38 pm #2113186
The performance pisses me off but then again its a pre season friendly. Two months from now nobody gives a shit about this match.July 12, 2022 at 2:40 pm #2113188
I just hope the scoreline doesnt become more embarassing.July 12, 2022 at 2:40 pm #2113189
“They’re no friendlies against United.”
Seemingly Klopp disagrees.July 12, 2022 at 2:42 pm #2113191
3 defensive errors from squad players, at best, 3 goals.July 12, 2022 at 2:44 pm #2113193
Klopp hardly gives a shit about friendly results and never gives anything away tactically at this stage. Doubt any of the serious work will start before we get to Austria. Only thing we need to be concerned about is getting out of this with no injuries.July 12, 2022 at 2:44 pm #2113194
Ya, there definitely are friendlies against Utd. I don’t expect this to be like a PL game but I’d also not like to see us humiliated and so far, it’s heading that way. In 2 months, nobody will care but we’re on a tour trying to gain fans, basically. We won’t be doing ourselves very well if they beat us 7-0.
We have the main lads yet to come on though, so hopefully it wont be too bad by the time they are on.
