2 wins out of 3 now make us nearly safe so what we should focus on ? We could come as high as 8th or as low as 16th but its irrelevant its a disappointing season whatever. We will no doubt debate why at seasons end but in the meantime I think we should be use the following 9 or so games to 1) Sort out the players we want to keep – ie ALF, Helm, Saville , Evans, and Siggursson – I think we have already made the right decision on RVP – if its right its an eventual deal of £750k that’s brilliant. 2) Sort out once and for all what formation we want to play ! If it is not going to be 442 then don’t pay £1m for ALF who I rate but he is not going to get the games, the money needs to be spent elsewhere. 3) Blood the youngsters not just giving Byrne, Saville games but Hunte , Ennis , Deslandres and anyone else Sellers thinks is ready. KJ is cautious generally these games are a free hit – use them. 4) Pay back the crowd and play some exciting football which we have not done for 4 months 5) a personal plea – get Edwards fit so he can play for Wales – he deserves the chance of a lifetime (long he doesn’t score against us!)

Hey Watford, sorry for the delayed response this place has become less of a forum and more of a private chat! Not that I don’t appreciate it but makes me sad when I think of the heated debates that used to take place on here ;(

Anyway to get to your interesting post.. to be honest I pretty much agree entirely, although I would just put in one caveat and that is we need to bring the youngsters in without relying on them. As some posters have (rightly) pointed out on the E & S forum, Iorfa should have been dropped weeks ago more for his own good than anything else! It does young players no good to keep playing them when they are out of form as it tells them they get in the team either-way! You are right that these games should be a chance (from your list) to play for a place but for me if the decision was tomorrow think I would keep 1)…just Helan (think Evans has a year left on contract) as for Saville well he could prove himself yet but it has to be more than the odd good game for me. Completely agree on RVLP but sadly (if you saw the story) so may Huddersfield as he was hauled off after a poor 45 mins of his debut! Lets hope the money was up front 😉
I was happy when we signed AFL but as I’ve said before not sure he looks sharp enough for me, I agree the formation doesn’t suit him but lets be honest he hasn’t been that good with his chances. As for Siggy its a tough one (cause I love the guys attitude, years in the cold but still grafting) but sadly the stats don’t lie and not sure he’ll ever be a top scorer.

2)- Sort out the formation well I think you know your preaching to the choir here but I think you may be a little optimistic because as I’ve said (so MANY) times before KJ is the problem here! More than anything it seems to be his complete indecision on how we should play our game. Lets hope he proves me wrong next season!

    3),4),5)- yes…Yes… and YES!!!

Really want to see more of Hunte especially after his award from FAI, also couldn’t agree more about Edwards. Not always been the guys biggest fan but love him or hate him the guy works his knackers off and like you say deserves what could be a last chance of a big tournament! 😉

6- Try to start and build up some consistency at home this season so we can try to carry it through for the next (this may be an extension of your exciting football plea). But the reality is for us to stand even a chance at playoffs we MUST be winning our home games from the off (or at very least properly turning up for them)! 6 home wins at this point in the season is half the story behind the many frustrated fans, we have to try and build a fortress again!

Hi Dick. was beginning to feel lonely. I thought everyone had left. I do take your point about Siggy he just hasn’t got the goals and with money probably being tight next season barring a buyer, I think he will be let go, very sad. I am due to see the next 3 home games so hoping to see some entertainment and some of the kids.

Well I hope it is more entertaining next time round because despite my doubts we have decided to renew on the early bird. Have to give some credit to the club because the main reason for this was because my Dad (who had been not so keen whilst KJ was here) found out he’s now legible for an elders ticket and it drops it down by nearly half! So with that being the case he was unable to resist, so looks like I’m ‘stuck’ there for another season!;)

For all I moan about KJ (and I’m still not convinced) I would love nothing more than for him to prove me wrong with a solid run to the playoffs next year, with a team of young guns! Gonna take a lot of work from where we are now, most importantly (at very least) an out and out goal scorer!

On a random note I reckon Macca’s all but out the door! Somethings happened there, not even coming on as a sub these days. Not that surprised he’ll be a high earner now and his head was turned not sure a new contract changes that forever.

I was amazed by the early bird returnees, it is just another example of why fans are not customers ! You could be right about Macca he is just not been consistent this season and Price has a chance to seal his place. I think KJ reckons that having them both in the side does not give us enough cover for our fragile defence.

    Hi Guys,

Totally agree about the youngsters, i’d love to see them get a start at the Mol and for the SB to get totally behind them and give them the confidence and belief and not jump on them if they make a mistake.
Love Siggy but lack of goals is proving to be a problem, i’d love to think if he gets one he’ll get a hatful but just can’t see it.
As for KMac, it does seem a bit strange, his performances haven’t been as accomplished as before and maybe he is being a little disruptive but yeah, it does look like he’ll be out of the door in the Summer and if i’m honest i prefer Price all day long.

Do you think we’ll sign anyone in the Summer?

Hypothetically we have 5.5m left from Afobe sale but given financial constraints I think it will be more like 2-3m. We also have a 1m buy option on ALF which I don’t think we should take. Mac could be sold but it may depend on what we have coming through particularly how good Ronan is.

Careful lads, theres almost enough opinions here for this to be a forum! 😉

So I agree generally in that if we’re not gonna play Macca he may as well go (when you consider he’ll be on a bigger contract). BUT (and isn’t there always one of those;) we do need to be careful that we don’t make the same mistake that we did with our defence, cause when theres no competition for places it helps no one!

As for the who will we sign…well looking at the way we previously work I reckon we’ll quietly go back in for Kike. Think we’d get him as well, barring any interest from Spain cause he only backed out last time when it became a loan! I have a theory here as well (not saying its right just a theory)…see I reckon Kike was KJ’s choice and Mason was Thelwells preference (probably because Mason required a lower contract, Boro are renowned for big wages these days). Cause KJ is a gent so ain’t the type to start going to interviews and saying ‘well its the boards fault,as we didn’t get….’ but that seems to be exactly the (quiet) point he has made with his refusal to start Mason! He keeps saying how Mason ‘doesn’t fit the current system’ which is an odd thing to say about a marquee signing if you’ve chosen them?! No, I reckon KJ has been (rightly) put out cause Thelwell prioritized the Mason signing which in turn cost us Kike (KJ’s preference). Which is why KJ is subtly making a point when he says things like ‘we just need that goal scorer’ (think that was after the Boro game). He may like Mason but I reckon he feels it wasn’t the no 9 we desperately needed and for once I think the man was right!

Like I say just a theory but can anyone else explain to me why you sign a £3m striker if he doesn’t fit your system?!

Also Watford I agree on the Ronan thing but think we should be using him sparingly next season. The guys still very young and not the biggest, don’t want any early serious injuries. I reckon on the bench and a good 35 min run out as sub for the rest of this season would be a good start? 🙂

I cant explain the Mason thing at all but the number one priority is a number 9 perhaps Kike is that.

Yeah, the Mason thing does seem a bit strange. Pay 3m for a ‘striker’ who doesn’t have the greatest of scoring records and then don’t play him. It could be as you say he was a Thelwell players and KJ is giving KT the middle finger by not playing Mason.

Well if there was any doubt about Macca looking at new houses then theres not now! Dropped completely whilst Price and Saville have another blinder. Fair play to Saville he seems determined to win his contract (cough..and prove me wrong…cough;) good luck to him but he just needs to keep it going now.

I reckon with Macca maybe he didn’t take well to the initial benching, if so then off he can go. I like what the guy can bring but he hasn’t really bought it since the Fulham interest, all the more shameful as he signed a new contract and took the pay rise!

Good to see Mason get the start but reckon I might be seeing some of the issue Kennys facing, now more players are available. Cause from the limited games for both I reckon Zyro is better up front (well finishing anyway). Problem is he seems to play a similar kind of hold the ball role as Mason, whereas say a no 9 (cough…Kike…cough) could play up there and off one of um. Just a thought.

Ah well we got there in the end tonight, hope its turning a corner cause off to the Mol on Sat and I miss seeing goals there! 😉

Yes that was hopeful but anything was better than the Ipswich game ! Please keep this up because I am going to the Blackburn game as well. I beginning to think Macca is going as well. Anyone else notice that he was on the Scotland squad allegedly to get his first cap along with many others and he didn’t I wonder if Strachan saw what KJ was seeing ? Price definitely sign him up !!

Watford- I wonder if you are right but for a different reason, looks like he’s been tied with Rangers (not sure how they could afford him mind) but could be that after not getting his Int debut he’s decided he would find it easier to be noticed if playing in the SPL?

Anyway I want to add a new priority…. this priority is that this year in the close season Kenny can NOT, repeat NOT go camping/peeing on ancient burial grounds again!! We can’t have another cursed season like this one surely?! Zyro now out for anything up to a year, I mean seriously I’ve never known luck as bad as ours right now. Ok all teams get injuries but its the sheer amount of serious ones thats killing us, poor Zyro pretty savage start to things! ;(

Sorry I haven’t been on for a while, but my mother taught me “if don’t have anything good to say, say nothing”. I agree about Price, I said earlier in the Season I thought he was the one player with the ability to play at a higher level. Meaningful time from the bench for some of the youngsters, U18’s Armstrong, Enobakhare,Ronan, starts for Deslandes, moving Doherty to Right Back, and Iorfa given a run at CB in the U21’S, also start / starts for Hunte, lets find out what we’ve really got.

Good to be back on here, I didn’t realise that the forum had been re-instated and just logged on for the first time in ages to have a look. Now we are safe trying out the youngsters has to be top priority. I admit to not understanding some of the team decisions in recent weeks, but avoiding a prolonged losing spell has worked albeit at the expense of attacking options. I think we could be in for a very unsettling summer.

Agree with Watford from way back in March and Wolf66, too.

We know who the dead wood are by now (and I’d expect Siggy and MCLinden to be out the door, too) so I wouldn’t bother to pick them from now on in. KMac is clearly going and has been no where near the player he was last season so build the team around Price.

    Not sure about Saville’s future.

Pick the formation and stick to it, and pick the players that can play to it. If they can’t play to it, why are they here?

KJ prefers 4-2-3-1 but I’d prefer 4-3-2-1 but what do I know, he is the professional. Give Mason, Byrne and ALF a run of all the remaining games in the chosen formation and if they can’t cut it then we have our answer. Play them for an hour or so and then give Bright and Hunte a run.

I agree with the idea of giving Deslandes some game time, too.

Tell Williamson to get fit for next season and don’t risk him this.

And tell us, the fans, that this is the plan, in order to build for next season and advance the youngsters experience so that we all can manage expectation.

I don’t expect us to spend much money in the Summer at all so it’s important that when we come back for pre-season KJ knows what he has to work with and what he is going to do with it.

With Dicko, Williamson, Edwards, Ikeme, ALF (maybe), Mason (probably) and Henry as experienced players next season, and talented youngsters like Graham and Wallace to come back too, along with Bright and Hunte and the likes of Iorfa and Hause continuing to progress (hopefully) then I am not that concerned about the first 15 or so, but we do need cover and competition. It’s the lack of that that worries me.
