After thinking it over last night,I’m just going to be brutal here,no sugarcoating anything. At the start of the season,I was bored at what I was watching. I wanted Rodgers out,as we were just boring to watch, and I wasn’t looking forward to games. Then,Klopp comes in and brings a wave of optimism and self belief, gets a decent point at Tottenham in his first game,a decent draw in Europe, then come the Chelsea and City results. Amazing, then 6-1 at Southampton, brilliant. Since then,it appears we’ve become a Brendan Rodgers team again. Like I said yesterday,it’s the same players doing the same things wrong. The amount of draws we’ve had this season has been ridiculous. They’re killing our season domestically. Man United are 4th,and are in ‘crisis’. We’re 9th. What does that make us? Hardly worth a mention. Mid table fodder. A team with no balls, who cower and hide when the going gets tough. The frustrating thing is,when we want to,we play great football. But we don’t do it often enough. When are these players going to realize, that to get top 4 or win something,we need to win most weeks? We can’t be having teams like Norwich and West Brom come to Anfield and take points off us. We won’t get top 4 like that. So where are we? It’s the T word again, the one we’ve been having rammed down our throats for too long. Yes,we’re in ‘transition’. And why are we still in transition? Because our owners keep making the wrong decisions. Because they didn’t sack Rodgers in the summer. Because they didn’t give Klopp a transfer window before the season started. Their ‘Moneyball’ (sorry, trying to win on the cheap) strategy is failing. The committee have taken their money, and largely pissed it up the wall. The squad is weak. We may have a decent sized squad, but have we got a decent number of quality players in reserve? No. And why’s that? Oh yes,the strategy is wrong. Yet FSG,who know nothing about ‘soccer’,are stubbornly refusing to acknowledge that. People will say “we’re doing well in the cups”. Great. What about the league? No? Where are we there? 9th. Doesn’t look so good now does it? If these players don’t start performing, then play the likes of Connor Randall,Cameron Brannagan,Joao Teixera,Sheyi Ojo,see how they do. Something needs to change. The players need a reality check, because they haven’t been good enough so far. Rant over.
December 14, 2015 at 12:07 pm #738503we have a manager that is in the door two months. We have to be patient. I dont blame the owners. I blame the money wsted on average players. They never lied to anyone. They said we could use the money generated from sales. We have spend millions and millions for decades now and we constantly over pay for poor players. Its poor choice. Not lack of money from the owners.
give klopp time. It should be another year before we can start to really judge him. I keep saying there will be set backs along the way. Its annoying that 4th really is there for the taking but Klopp needs time. We are in transtion though mate.Im sick of hearing it myself but we are. This season is a write off for me. Anything can happen but i expect more days like last sunday and yday before we really push on.
Klopp needs his own players in before we will see a consistent change in how we play. We need sturridge fully foit aswell
December 14, 2015 at 12:14 pm #738539Hard to disagree with that S/Teeth.
I’m a bit disappointed players like Lallana haven’t grown in stature to the finished article.
And before people shoot me on this one, I want to see more of Jordan Ibe; more thrust.
How much waiting to we have to do in individuals getting up to speed.
I think we have too much of one thing in ‘number 10s’ and not enough of the other.
Maybe recall Lazar Markovic.
James Milner/Jordan Henderson should be making stamping their positions with authority and bossing that midfield, yet we’re not seeing a great deal of it.
The defence and Mignolet is the biggest problem at the moment. Jurgen Klopp unfortunately for now has his hands tied and has to make do with what he’s got, and during that time, we simply have to get behind him and the team in hoping our fortunes change, quickly and we begin to register some wins on the board.
December 14, 2015 at 1:03 pm #738722I can’t agree with that at all. Under Brendan would we have scored the equaliser in the 96th minute & kept pushing for a winner? Under Klopp we have a new belief that we can go behind & still win a game. This is a key difference to what we had before under Brendan which was to begin on the front foot score early to go ahead, but did not have an answer to when going behind in games. We are still conceding goals to set pieces which has always been our achilles heel since 1990. It undid Roy winning the league with David James being Dracula (afraid of crosses) was dealt with at the sacrifice of exciting football under Houllier/ Rafa, but returned under Brendan, but the difference is Klopp has identified it & is working on it. This is not allowed were the words he used when referring to conceding from set pieces. He knows what is going on at the stadium during games. He is participating every second rather than taking notes & watching. He is on the pitch with the players & that is where he wants to be. Did anyone expect he could work miracles in 2 months? Honestly? We dropped two points but turned it into a point gained & credited the crowd as much as the players for it. That would never have happened under Rafa/ Houllier/ Brendan/ Roy. We have someone special in our technical area who is fixing something that’s been wrong for a very long time. It is a learning experience for both manager & players, but it will come & possibly in the very next game, or possibly not. As long it is steps of improvement in the right direction. We are raising our level in plateaus & the so called lesser sides will try & make things as hard as possible. Good, we want that. This is how potential champions are made, we dare not let them team down by not rising to the challenge ourselves. Cheers 🙂
December 14, 2015 at 6:17 pm #739274Sanj, I’m not blaming Klopp at all for this. It’s the players that are letting him down. The conceding from set pieces is just unacceptable. The list of players who perform well, get a move to Liverpool, and then just turn into different players,is a worry as well (Lallana,Milner,Benteke to name a few). Klopp will get it right, but the players have to do their bit as well. He’s took the blame for Mignolet’s mistake, and I think that’s wrong. Mignolet does it too often, and should be held accountable. Klopp has been criticised in the press today for what happened at the end of the game (going up to the fans with the players and thanking them for their support). That’s wrong as well in my opinion. People are saying “you only drew with West Brom”. But that wasn’t the issue. The issue was, that kind of thing has been missing for too long, and Klopp’s gesture yesterday will help unite the players with the fans again in my opinion. We’ve become distant from the team in recent times, and the Anfield atmosphere hasn’t been there anywhere near as much as it should be. Some great points made on this thread. I stand by what I have said, but I understand where you’re all coming from too. It just frustrates me,as we know the players can do so much more. Being mid table isn’t good enough for Liverpool, and that’s where we are at the moment. It hurts badly. I guess we just have to be patient
December 14, 2015 at 7:20 pm #739313ST, we share the same frustrations believe me. I think it’s important to step back a little & see what the media are doing now. It wasn’t us or Klopp who built us up to be title contenders, it was the media. There was no way we could have kept the run of performances like City, Chelsea & Soton away going for long. There had to be a dip, well we dipped & now what are the media doing, they are laying into Klopp for approaching the supporters instead of reporting it as it is. They are saying we are celebrating a point knowing full well he was thanking the kop for sucking in a goal. Just like it used to into 70s & 80’s. Seems to me the hacks are a little rattled by that & an agenda to knock us down is now in play. Tottenham lost, Utd lost, but we fought back for a point in the 96th minute so what do they report it as? We need to get behind the team when it needs it & celebrate the goals when it doesn’t. Migs is a confidence keeper. Blaming him wont help, so Jurgen’s effort to take the blame is to repair his confidence for Watford. That was a massive howler yesterday, but a decent game next weekend puts it behind him. He is our current number 1 & has been on a decent run of performances this season. I know we have been watching these howlers for awhile & its frustrating, but Jurgen hasnt & can’t go into the market without at least giving the players a chance to shine this season. Another howler & I think he will be dropped. We can’t go out & buy a Buffon sadly so its patience & damage limitation with who we have for now. Look at our injuries too, Sakho is an immense loss at the back, Studge is an immense loss as a striker & now weve lost Lovren too. I hope we get behind Toure next week because he will need it as much as Migs. Cheers & YNWA 🙂
December 14, 2015 at 7:58 pm #739361Sanj1 yeah, you’re right regarding the press. Typical of our media, and the ‘build em up to knock em down’ approach. We Liverpool fans know what Klopp is doing,as do the press, but they’re just spinning things to create sensational headlines out of what, really,is a non story. The injuries,we’ve been so unlucky with them this season, and as u list, they’re all first 11 players really (I’d also throw Gomez and Ings’ names into the conversation as well). I have no problem backing Mignolet. What annoys me,and what we all know deep down,is that no matter how many good games he has,he will make mistakes again in the future, and it will cost us. I’d test Stoke’s resolve with a big bid for Butland,he looks the real deal. YNWA
December 14, 2015 at 8:32 pm #739376ST, We have key injuries no doubt & will be left with a patched up defence next weekend. I hope we do bid for Butland, but historically we’ve always had keepers who dropped clangers. I would like Bogdan to be given a chance. Cheers 🙂
December 14, 2015 at 11:03 pm #739559I keep saying it lads, we have a pretty weak squad & nothing but new players will fix that. Klopp needs his players & I’m not talking about top name players that cost a fortune, I’m talking players that have a particular skill set ( Listen to me, sound like Liam Neeson in taken) that suits his preferred style of play.
We have to many average players & won’t get top 4 until that changes. As much as we don’t want to believe it, it will take a good couple of seasons with a Klopp buy or 2 in each window to get where we want to be.
Bogdan needs to be given a chance, Migs improved for a while there but he has to many howlers in his locker to be our number 1.December 14, 2015 at 11:07 pm #739562Oh & sanj don’t even waste your time mentioning Sturridge, he is a figment of our imagination. Just say we need another main striker as Benteke isn’t really aiming up as the main man. Origi has improved under Klopp but is to raw to be our main man just yet so a top striker is a must for next season. Ings will be back but is he really what we are looking for in a main man???
December 14, 2015 at 11:20 pm #739574Aussie, today’s echo has it that Pato has sounded out Firmino & Coutinho about playing in the premiership & Liverpool are expected to bid around 15 million for him. I dont think Klopp will be waiting on Studge’s fitness any longer than he has to. Cheers 🙂
December 15, 2015 at 10:58 am #740033Sanj I’m not sure Pato is the answer. Picks up too many injuries, which is exactly the type of player we don’t need right now, given Sturridge’s problems. I’d prefer someone with more experience of the Prem. As for Bogdan,I agree. For me,he should play on Sunday
December 15, 2015 at 11:08 am #740045ST, Pato seems like a risk to me as well but apparently he’s been in good form & it might be the price tag of a top forward that is putting Fenway off. It’s shame we can’t just unearth another Fowler or Owen. Perhaps the thinking is it would be bad luck to have more than three of six strikers out injured at any one time. Considering we would have Pato, Firmino, Studge, Benteke, Ings, Origi, Mario (possible recall) on the books it might be worth the risk in signing him. Cheer 🙂
December 15, 2015 at 12:56 pm #740309Jeez sanj replacing one injury prone striker with another isn’t good business I don’t reckon.
December 15, 2015 at 1:52 pm #740450…& then there’s the Lewandowski link Aussie 😀 ktf 🙂
