Have to say that part from the last back pass for the 3rd goal I though Ross played well last night and showed that if he is not shackled into sideways passing that he has the potential to be a strong driving midfielder capable of cutting passes and of course the ability to score
To see Kante reverted to his natural position flanked by Barkley and RLC has a lot of merit in my books. KTBFFH
June 7, 2019 at 10:11 am #1757581Ditto 1905.
June 7, 2019 at 11:38 am #1757609I also though Barkley was having a very good game pity about that pass that led to a goal but to be fair Stones was more to blame again as he passed the ball to Barkley with an oppenent right up his backside. As for the first Stones mistake that was really shocking.
June 7, 2019 at 3:14 pm #1757669Ross i thought was excellent apart from one hiccup not totally his fault, glad we never got around to signing Stones….
June 7, 2019 at 3:17 pm #1757670I thought the England team looked a little jaded midway into the second half, a lot of players are playing 4 comps all season and a portion of them made big finals within the last week factor in all the traveling etc I thought these semi final games were way too close to the EL & CL finals it should have been schedule mid next week 1.5 weeks after the the CL final so players could regroup after their celebrations etc 5 days to win a CL, celebrate, travel and prepare for a game and play the game is ridiculous.
Netherlands had 2 players in that final. Most of their players play in Eredevise which only has 18 teams most of which are championship standard, then they have a midseason break, and 1 domestic cup. Not many of their players played 50+ domestic games this season.
June 7, 2019 at 4:00 pm #1757680Devchels – make you right about Stones and yet how hard did we pursue him? Really dodged a bullet on that one. KTBFFH
June 11, 2019 at 1:25 pm #1758541I did not see the England match. But saw the highlight where Barkley gave the dreadful backpass. He was facing his own GK, so I think it’s his fault. But anyway concerning Barkley at Chelsea: I am afraid that he will become another English player with so much talent and potential but will fail to deliver all those premises.
RLC before he got injured showed how much he wanted it badly to start. I always labelled RLC as too stylish (to the point of being lazy, only good with the ball) but he had changed. He ran. He fought for the ball. Barkley on the contrary hasn’t changed that much. Look at how Kovacic, Jorg and Kanté fought. 4-3-3 of Sarri needs the 3 midfielders to fight for the ball. Barkley did not do that much. And all his passes were often backward or sideways, too safe. We need him to do David Luiz, long & risky passes. We need him to shoot more often. (RLC did !!, CHO did !!). If he wants to be in the starting 11 next season whoever the manager will be: he has to fight more. He has to take more risk. He has to run more, to cover more field. He also has to shoot more. Otherwise it’s Bakayoko or Mason Mount who will start ahead of him
June 25, 2019 at 7:09 pm #1761983Barkley is one player I expect to improve a lot under Lampard, his gone backwards under Sarri, he used to be a forager with an eye for a goal Sarri changed him into a pedestrian sideways and backwards passer.
June 26, 2019 at 8:01 am #1762043It seems quite clear to me that Sarri restricted Barkley in what he was allowed to do when you compare his performances for Chelsea and England. The last few games for England have shown he has the ability and is a great option as the attacking midfielder and can score goals as well
He will never be another Frank, who could be, but certainly with RLC a great option and a player I fully expect to improve under Frank. KTBFFH
June 26, 2019 at 2:40 pm #1762255Completely agree Barkley has gone backwards this season past despite having a lot of game time. I don’t know if he was told to play like that or its just the way it panned out but we need forward moving central midfielders like Kante.
June 26, 2019 at 7:08 pm #1762303Mmmmm! There have been several instances lately where the presumed talents of the Lampard/Morris pairing are about to transform our fortunes. It is bountifully to be hoped that they do but my view is that this is an embryonic management team that already has enough on its plate without overloading with unrealistic expectation. There is a presumption that former association with the Chelsea team and Academy will ensure a smoothe introduction for our new managers; well, that earlier association was longer ago than some appear to think and much water has passed over the dam since then. This thread carries an expectation that Ross Barkley, indeed a very considerable player much affected by recent managerial regimes, will be transformed by the mere presence of Lampard. Again, we might be getting ahead of ourselves here…..for several seasons Frank Lampard wasn’t the ultimate Frank Lampard; it took time and hard work. Let us just cool down a bit. Rome wasn’t built in a day.One rather hopes that a man named Roman might give our new team that time.
June 26, 2019 at 10:41 pm #1762325Top post Palms as always a joy to see you posting on here, one bit confused me though “well, that earlier association was longer ago than some appear to think and much water has passed over the dam since then.”
You’re right of course in relation to Frank but an important piece of this jigsaw imo is Jody Morris and he was managing the Youth team up to when he joined up with Frank at Derby and he imo is a very important part of the equation going forwards giving the fact that he has managed all of our most exciting young players.
As you rightly say though Rome wasn’t built in a day and let’s not expect too much too soon I just hope that’s the way Roman sees it too. Cheers 999
June 26, 2019 at 11:09 pm #1762328You make a fair point, Paul, but I think that you give rather more emphasis to Jody Morris’s appointment than I do. Thus, the mote is in my eye, not yours. In all cases of managerial partnerships (e.g. Clough/Taylor) one has the overall responsibility and, this time, it is Frank Lampard. I remain unconvinced that prior knowledge of our club will help too much; prior knowledge of our board-room deficiencies would scare, rather than encourage, me!
June 27, 2019 at 6:31 am #1762329Really hope Barkley can become the player he used to be and not the frustrating player as transformed by Sarri.
June 27, 2019 at 10:29 am #1762384Can only see Barkley improve under the new regime and if allowed the freedom to play as he does for England then Chelsea will benefit. KTBFFH
June 27, 2019 at 1:52 pm #1762485We have midfielder with flair and creativity. Barkley and of of course RLC. Barkley clearly is not of the same type as Lampard. Lampard is unique, is an efficiency machine. Work hard, box to box, defend and attack and score goals and give assists. Basic technique but efficient and useful and very intelligent. Barkley is the contrary. Flashy with technique but lack of efficiency. And lack of intelligence I guess. IMO Barkley has to work very hard to gain the spot in the starting 11. Current situation: No, he won’t be in our starting 11. Even though RLC is injured, there are Kovacic and Jorg (no creativity but hard worker and Kovacic is a tough tackler) and of course world’s best DM N’Golo Kanté. And it would not surprise me if Mason Mount will get the nod ahead of him. Or even Bakayoko if he can prove his worth to Lampard. He had a fairly successful season at Milan and we know how good he was at Monaco. Barkley has some ways to go to become one of our important players IMO
June 27, 2019 at 3:03 pm #1762522Too many central midfielders those that don’t play regularly will want out, that’s how it is nowadays.
June 28, 2019 at 11:24 am #1762691Really hope the Kovacic signing will not limit Barkleys game time as I believe his potential has not been unlocked yet though he has shown some of those signs.
July 3, 2019 at 1:37 pm #1763813Anyone else see or hear that Barkley was partying heavily again with different women till the early hours.
July 3, 2019 at 2:11 pm #1763821lucky Bugger
