1905 – Christensen should have cleaned up, instead he just let him past with ease. Poor defending from him.

Well then if Sarri refuses to yield and the results continue to go against us then Sarri must piss off….

Another all round poor showing but it’s a win, noone is really standing out so it must also be difficult to select your best 11. Problems at the back, midfield and in the attack. I think his going to go with his normal 11 against United though I think he should try something different. It often helps.

Again I watched our corners and thought to myself, when was the last time somebody took a decent corner that actually threatened the opposition defence. We used to score regularly from corners with the likws of Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic amongst others heading in goals. I seem to remember Rudiger scoring one not so long ago but that is about it. Our free kicks from set pieces also are not what they used to be. Willian, Luiz, Alonso and others used to score from these. The last one was? What are your thoughts on all of this gentlemen.

Cannot understand all the poor set pieces including corners, professional footballers should get that right 9 out of 10 times.

1967, it always amazes me how any professional footballer takes a corner that doesn’t even beat the first defender. The number of times our corners are just hit into the first man is unreal. There’s no excuse for it. But even when our cross does make it into the box you are right, we used to be pretty deadly from corners and free kicks but that too seems to have dried up.

AMZ – agreed and stated on other threads that initially it was Christensen at fault but Kovacic did try to track the eventual scorer. My point was if that had been Kante and not Kovacic then I believe he would have caught and stopped him. KTBFFH

You have to assume that we do practise set pieces in training but have to agree that we do not look as threatening from these as we used to. KTBFFH

David Luiz insists there have been no dissenting voices among the Chelsea squad despite troubling results under head coach Maurizio Sarri.

Sarri’s position as head coach is in doubt, with Chelsea facing a crucial run of fixtures. Monday’s FA Cup tie with Manchester United is followed by Thursday’s Europa League last-32 second leg with Malmo and the February 24 Carabao Cup final with Manchester City.

It was City who inflicted Chelsea’s worst defeat in 28 years, the 6-0 reverse following another humiliation, a 4-0 loss at Bournemouth which was the Blues’ heaviest in 22 years.

David LuizDavid Luiz scored the penalty in the shootout win over Tottenham which took Chelsea into the Carabao Cup final.
An hour-long post-mortem followed the City loss on Monday – 10 minutes longer than the dressing-room inquest at Bournemouth – yet Luiz says no one has raised objections to Sarri’s possession-based tactics, which have yielded mixed results.

“We have had many meetings already asking if someone doesn’t believe,” Luiz said.

“They can say. Nobody said anything. It’s because everyone believes (in it).”

Chelsea slipped out of the Premier League’s top four as a result of the loss at City, responding with a 2-1 first-leg win at Malmo on Thursday night.

Head coach Maurizio Sarri has restored David Luiz to a prominent position in the Chelsea first team and a sequence of wins in the next few days could transform their fortunes under Sarri, who has restored Luiz to the starting line-up after the Brazil defender became a peripheral figure during Antonio Conte’s second season.

Luiz insisted Chelsea face “an amazing future” under Sarri, before trying to explain the losses to Arsenal, Bournemouth and City which meant the goals in Sweden were Chelsea’s first away from home in 2019.

He said: “We lost against maybe the best team in the world at the moment in Manchester City. They were better than us from the beginning to the end.

“We lost a few matches because it is part of the process. The teams that are at the top of the table now are ones with managers who have been there for more than three years.

“There is a big difference when you have already understood everything, it is much easier to play football. I think we are in the right way to still improve to become a fantastic team.”

    A few thoughts on this
1, Luiz is looking for a new longer contract
2, You never let your manager know if you are not happy as the next match you are benched
3, You always let your manager hear the right comments
4, When the next manager is installed and with managers of the past he has always backed them vocally, except Antonio and look what happened there.

I am not thinking about future at all. Next 3 matches will be decisive. Sarri must have his tactics and his choice of players right. Man Utd are strong but far from City or Liverpool or Spurs. I am hoping we can get a positive result in the FA Cup. And the final is equally important if not more. Sarri may be able to win his first trophy although I cannot see how. City are simply too strong and Sarri simply do not want to apply the correct strategy to beat them: defensive way.

That’s the worry Aindro but Sarri tweaked his tactics v City at home and played Kante closer to Jorginho and we won the game.

Cup Finals don’t always go to form let’s hope this is another one.

I think beating United may be important to beating City psychologically them not having Martial and Lingard is a help.

    Both very difficult games though.

999 indeed, that’s why I have a bit of hope as cups are one off. The side that performs that day will win. And we have chance for these 2. We are injury free so far bar RLC, hope I don’t jinx it.

So City be complacent at their peril in the Cup Final. A few tweaks (in particular Kante) and we’ll be right to go.

If Sarri goes than till the end of the season only Brendan Rodgers, Zola I don’t think its right to suddenly give him so much more responsibility and pressure. Think Sarri has given himself and the team too much to do so can’t see him staying. Rodgers comes from here and his not too bad for now.

Blaze, why on earth would Brendan Rodgers who is contracted to Celtic until 2021 come to Chelsea to be an interim Manager until the end of the season. “If Sarri goes than till the end of the season only Brendan Rodgers” ?????

Quite right 999 for some strange reason i forgot his managing my favourite Scottish team, must be cause of the morning after, his on a good wicket there so he want leave for a suicide job, still believe Sarri will be gone unless there’s a dramatic turn of fortunes.

Blaze doubt if Rodgers will leave Celtic even though it’s a much higher profile position but not a bad choice if possible considering there’s so few good candidates, haha we got rid of all the good ones.

Blaze, ha, ha. easy thing to do mate we are all suffering from the stresses of supporting Chelsea currently.

I think this month will go some way to deciding Sarri’s fate but whilst we are still in with a chance of qualifying for the CL via the PL or the EL I think the Club will stick with him.

If we decide to eventually replace Sarri I wouldn’t rule Rodgers out of a permanent job at Chelsea I’m sure a return to the PL at a top 6 Club like Chelsea would appeal and as you say he knows the Club and more importantly like Blueowner says we are beginning to run out of options.

I’m still hoping probably forlornly that Sarri has an attack of pragmatism and makes the changes he needs to make when he needs to make them. Cheers 999
