I know that Lamps isn’t experienced enough, but he was our player for so long. He is one of Chelsea legend. He knows Chelsea inside-out. He can motivate players. I would go with him. Give trust to our own IMO. The duet Lamps – JT to revive our club !
March 12, 2019 at 5:15 pm #1734325Far to early and far to untried imo. Especially given the likely size of the task which is bigger with a transfer ban.
March 12, 2019 at 6:28 pm #1734332I think we have a decent chance of winning the Europa probably a bit easier than a top 4 finish so maybe they will then keep Sarri on that basis, Sarri has sort of turned me against him staying but if he can turn it around then fine, of the available managers Blanc would probably be the best short term choice, also not the type that stays too long.
March 12, 2019 at 6:29 pm #1734334For me especially if the transfer ban applies immediately this summer. We need someone who loves Chelsea, who knows Chelsea inside-out and who is respected. IMO Lampard fulfills the criteria. One thing that does not tick the boxes is his experience but I believe his love for Chelsea and his knowledge about the club and players will be more important than experience.
March 12, 2019 at 8:34 pm #1734368Aindro, of our potential first eleven next season from his time at Chelsea Lampard won’t know Kepa, Rudiger, Emerson/ Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Barkley, Pulisic or Higuain if he stays.
March 14, 2019 at 1:57 pm #1734949Have to say that I was never impressed with Frank when he our captain. Possibly a bit harsh as the obvious comparison is against JT but for me he simply was not vocal enough. No doubting his passion and love for the Club but basically we need more than that at Chelsea
Looking at Derby they have been inconsistent recently and are slowly dropping out of the play off places so for now, I would say we are probably a couple of years too early before Frank takes over. KTBFFH
March 19, 2019 at 3:41 am #1736252I dreamt that Sarri left Chelsea by mutual agreement. We shall see.
March 19, 2019 at 8:01 am #1736280I had a nightmare that he stayed….!! KTBFFH
March 19, 2019 at 8:07 am #1736281I can’t see Sarri being at the Club for the start of next season. The problem is that if the transfer ban sticks it will limit those who we might want to approach.
March 21, 2019 at 5:29 am #1736698He should have been got rid of straight after the Everton capitulation.
Why, because the ugly 45 minute performance has resurfaced and, under Sarri’s watch, is just not fixable. Why sack him now? Simply because we cannot afford to risk that one of these second half capitulations happens in the Europa League and is the catalyst for elimination. This club simply MUST make the Champions League next season for a multitude of reasons. A change of manager now freeing up this squad of players to do what they do best and they should most likely be good enough to win the Europa League and qualify us for CL. Lets face it, if Avram Grant can do alright when the players basically go auto pilot then these guys can definitely do the same under an interim boss. Cannot believe the guy is still with us to be honest. These guy thrive on playing counter attacking football so let’s get back to basics and win things 🙂
March 21, 2019 at 5:41 am #1736699I’d bring back Roberto Di Matteo on the priviso that he is well rewarded and also clearly advised it is a temporary appointment until season’s end, especially after they shafted a Champions League winning manager in 2013, albeit because the side lost form and were being eliminated from that season’s Champions League at the Group stage. Roberto appears to be a family man right now and possibly free for a short term opportunity. I am sure he would get the job done. Really that appointment would depend on what went down with the sacking back then and whether there was any acrimony which I am not sure would be public knowledge.
March 21, 2019 at 7:54 am #1736710Have to agree that if sacking Sarri was on the agenda then the 2nd half capitulation at Everton (again) was the obvious time to let him go. It is now almost a week since that loss and the sacking rumours surfaced and nothing has happened so my gut reaction is that Chelsea are willing to stick with Sarri until the end of the season
Otherwise they should have made a quick decision to allow the transitional manager time to work with the squad not on international duty plus review the videos to identify where it is going wrong. To much time wasted for that now so it seems we have to hope that somehow or other the players can pull us through (as Hazard indicated earlier this week). KTBFFH
March 21, 2019 at 8:43 am #1736717Sarri can still be sacked if we dont win most of our games, I think Robert Di Matteo till the end of the season is not a bad call but it will probably be Zola also only till the remainder of the season and even he is not untouchable should results not improve. Sad but theirs too much at stake for the clubs owners. It happens everywhere either you get decent results or you go and its from the bottom tier to the top leagues in every country.
March 21, 2019 at 3:19 pm #1736856Personally, I see no logic in going back to Di Matteo when Zola has been at the Club all season. My feeling is that if we do decide to pull the plug on Sarri then Zola steps in and probably uses Newton and maybe even Joe Cole to assist through the last few games
March 21, 2019 at 4:29 pm #1736876heard Sarri requested a transfer to Banco Popolare, its a good move for him if it happens.
March 21, 2019 at 8:22 pm #1736911While I would be happy to see Sarri go, I don’t think we’ll have enough time for the new manager to fonction optimally. I am already giving up finishing top 4. And Europa, while we have a good run, winning it will be another matter. Not to underestimate Slavia Prague but on paper we should win this tie. Semifinal and then if qualified final will be very different with more difficult opposition. So even though I perfectly understand we are spiralling backward under Sarri, I think the right thing would be to prepare for the next season. Let’s carefully consider candidates to replace Sarri
March 21, 2019 at 8:46 pm #1736922Straight off of Google – Roberto Di Matteo confident of return to management. Roberto Di Matteo says he is confident of returning to management and is open-minded as to where. Di Matteo won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012 and also enjoyed success at Championship level when he won promotion with West Brom in 2010.
I know this article is 16 months old however it shows that he is an option. Not sure that he has worked in those 16 months either.
Gianfranco would probably not like anybody discussing his managerial ‘achievements’, a word I use loosely for the purpose of this post. Maybe John Terry there as his right hand man might be an option. Gianfranco apparently is a bit of a softie.
March 21, 2019 at 8:50 pm #1736923good one Blaze 🙂
March 21, 2019 at 9:01 pm #1736924Love Robbie Di Matteo as both a player and our Manager and he delivered the impossible dream but since he left Chelsea he has failed in every post.
The achievements under him at Chelsea in 2012 were truly remarkable particularly when you think we were all but out of the CL from the first leg of the Napoli game but what I think we need to remember is that the players that we had back then in JT, Frank, Cech and Drogba who were all such strong and instrumental leaders in the dressing room back then and we don’t have players of that stature anyomire who commanded the respect they did from their fellow players in 2012 and they had a lot to do with what happened in 2012 and not just on the pitch.
As 1905 wisely points out the eye of the storm was after the Everton game if anything was going to happen to allow an Interim Manager to take over it would probably have happened by now certainly in respect of a Sarri exit which suggests that the Club have decided to let Sarri have until the end of the Season.
As 1905 also points out the most logical interim set up would be Franco assisted by Eddie Newton although Steve Holland might be an interesting interim appointment but if Sarri was going I think it would have probably happened by now and there seems to be little suggestion that that is about to happen either.
March 21, 2019 at 9:07 pm #1736925Certainly NOT Zola then 999 as he is f ing useless as a manager. Agree that Robbie had it a lot easier back then with those leaders you mentioned, as did Avram Grant for that matter, but, we are talking about the current squad, Zola and Robbie and I still believe Robbie has better credentials than Zola to achieve results which is what we need right now ie a spot in next season’s Champions League. I may well be wrong but that is my opinion.
