“Of all the times Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri decides to give the silent treatment, it coincides with owner Roman Abramovich attending a game for the first time in over a year.

Given Abramovich was a major driving force behind the ‘Final Whistle On Hate’ fixture played just outside of Boston last night, it was perhaps not a surprise to see him there. Nevertheless, it was still a welcome sight for many Chelsea fans.

The absence of Abramovich from Stamford Bridge over the past 12 months has intensified the feeling of uncertainty around the club.

Chelsea’s path has never been smooth since he took over in 2003 — they have always seemed to lurch between success and crisis with little stability in between.

However, Chelsea supporters could always rely on the football enthusiast showing pleasure or otherwise from the confines of his box in the West Stand. But due to the UK not renewing his investor’s visa in 2018, the Russian billionaire has stayed away, with a lucrative project to rebuild the Bridge into a 60,000-seat stadium put on hold.

Despite constant denials from the club, there has been talk that Abramovich wants to sell up. Defender David Luiz, however, suggested otherwise in an interview earlier this week and the man himself looked as enthusiastic as ever as he watched Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over New England Revolution, going into both dressing rooms at the end.

What he thinks of Sarri’s behaviour before, during and after the club’s trip across the Atlantic remains to be seen. The Italian’s future as manager was already in doubt despite achieving the minimum target set for him when taking charge last July of securing a top-four finish and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Sarri’s relationship with fans has soured, although a win over Arsenal in the Europa League Final on May 29 would surely repair any damage. But he has risked upsetting Abramovich at a time when key decisions are made. The 60-year-old has done very little to promote a cause and occasion that was very close to his employer’s heart.
    Gg

Yet while in America, Sarri did not speak to the media to promote the reason behind Chelsea being there at all. He also failed to attend a visit to the Holocaust Memorial with the squad.

No post-match duties were fulfilled, either, when the club’s following were desperate for an update on Loftus-Cheek, who appears to have suffered a ruptured Achilles.

It should be pointed out Sarri complained of feeling unwell on the trip and was ordered by club doctors not to attend the vigil to the Holocaust Memorial. But to go all that way and not hear a single word from the man in the dug-out is very odd, especially when on the morning of the contest, stories of Sarri being sacked were doing the rounds.

Abramovich might have something to say on the matter and that is always a worry for any Chelsea coach.”

From Simon Johnson in today’s Standard.

Dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn’t with the fans and seemingly the owner.

Tbf – he’s probably mortified he’s lost a player to injury and the timing of the game. Anyhow, fingers crossed we win the Europa. Sarri can then decide for himself where he wants to be if the trap door doesn’t open beneath him.

A very funny season that’s seen all of our heads go at some stage including kepa and sarri’s! Love these two on the radio for shits and giggles…

The Express report that Sarri met with Roman in Boston but there were no discussions on his future?

Sarri though allegedly remains concerned for his back room staff who unlike him don’t have a three year contract to protect them because they are all allegedly on one year deals which will need extending if Sarri stays.

Sky had a discussion on Sunday and simply the question was asked whether or not a female coach could replace Sarri seeing as it was considered that Hayes was the most successful and prominent female coach and toyed with the idea that one day an EPL team will have a female manager. The general conclusion was that it was too early but will happen in the coming years

My feeling is fast becoming exactly what I had with Conte in that Sarri is deciding to take his own fate into his hands and is looking to engineer a quick exit. The fact that Juve seem more than interested is a great opportunity for him to return back to Italy with you assume some kind of decent payday. Not doing the lap of appreciation and everything he did not do as reported above on the US trip seems more than odd but closer to calculating for me

Quite sure that things will be a lot clearer after next Wednesday…? KTBFFH

Like I’ve said previously, Sarri does absolutely nothing to create a bond with either the players or the fans. Look at the spirit of togetherness that Liverpool have under Klopp, Spurs with Poch and City with Pep. We’ve had it previously with other managers, our players would run through walls for. At the moment I feel like the club is completely lost, from the owner right down to the fans. No identity or unity whatsoever. One of the reasons I can see / want Lampard to get the job – he would bring some of this back immediately just because of who he is.

1905… being saying for a while now that sarri is dammed if he does or doesn’t.

I fully expect him to walk to be honest, some of the criticism and vitriol he has received has disgusted me tbh. Never deserved it in a million years and goes to show how fickle our fan base has become.

Appointing a new manager resets the club, throws the youngsters futures back into doubt, means well keep players past their best and proves that Chelsea really is a joke of a club to players and managers after seeing shoots of change we’ve all be crying out for.

Madness but I’m expecting if it nowerdays around the club so has become normal, which it shouldn’t be

Roman, Sarri won’t walk if he goes he’ll be sacked and be holding out for his compensation.

I agree we shouldn’t be sacking a Manager after a season but despite qualification for the CL and qualification for 2 Finals he has made a lot of mistakes but maybe he would learn from those mistakes given another season.

A new Manager would have different views but appointing someone like Frank or ten Hag would probably give our youngsters more of a chance rather than less of a chance.

Also fans react to what they see on the pitch and match going fans that are spending an average of nearly £1,000 on a season ticket and the fans who follow the Club all over the country at significant cost have the most right of all to air their views.

But fans don’t sack Managers owners do and despite the rumours none of us know what’s going to happen.

Whatever happens Roman needs to get back into having a more hands on involvement in the Club and we need to add some football expertise to the Board to help eliminate the mistakes we keep making.

9… you keep peddling this myth that sarri has made mistakes along the way, yet the results and end of season league table suggest totally otherwise…

Let’s clear this notion that Lampard will be ready to manage Chelsea. Flat out no way. He’ll go with tried and tested experience over youth given he’ll have to secure champions league football and get us to a cup final or two… even then fans will turn on him when results go agains him. It happens every time the club go through a slump in form. It happened to the games best decorated coach jose.

Zola was touted to be a Chelsea
Manager and failed in management by Chelsea’s high standards.

id argue Roman interfering in day to day running has caused the issues at hand. Players only respect him and non of the hierarchy put in place. Since his departure from the ground, sarri and conte have been trying to tackle and eradicate player power. Costa got exactly what he deserved and that put the noses out of joint from others in the squad and it continued into this season culminating in the leagu cup final debarcle.

As I said, given the vitriol and bile spouted at sarri, I wouldn’t bet that he tells us fans and club to go do one. He’ll, if I was manager, it’s exactly what I’d tell this ungreatful mob paying 1000’s to go to home games. Perhaps the fans paying that could not pay it and give up their seats to fans who will enjoy going. Clearly the way the atmosphere in the bridge has tanked over recent seasons, they should perhaps stay away and not follow Chelsea if the only thing they can chant is sack the manager.

The biggest mistake we make is sacking managers triple 9’s sir. No patience with the fans anymore… the bridge used to be a lot more fun to visit. Not so much now.

Apparently there are senior players that want out if he stays. We got 3rd by default because Spuds, Arsenal and United collapsed worse than we did in the run in (outrageous really) and, in the main, watching football has been a painful experience this season, more so for me in the wee hours every time and I can understand why the match going paying customers would be pissed off, even more so those that treck around the country side. Lost count of how many games I fell asleep in the middle of or just switched off – never had that happen in seasons past. My gut feeling is that he will survive actually. You will be happy Roman so therefore you will be happy with more of the same but minus Hazard, so probably a worse end result. I say Sarri-ball is destined to fail in our league from what I have seen so far and fear for his mental health if the fans have to put up with another full season of it. The demonstrations so far would be considered minor. He survives I say he will be gone well before Christmas. If we can purchase players this summer we need to take full advantage with a new manager. The club cannot afford to waste it on something that may well not work. Respect what you have to say though Roman. It’s just personal opinion. Maybe you and Sarri will have the last laugh and you can tell eveyrbody that you told us so. I’d be more than happy to eat humble pie 🙂

The table never lies and Sarri took us to third in the league and 2 cup finals but it is more the manner in which he did it

I think we all agree we have witnessed some very poor football this season, we have experienced some horrific defeats and some against teams that should never happen, we have seen a man not very flexible in his approach and one who has made a number of dubious substitutions. Most of all he has never connected with the fan base and I would say that apart from Rafa we are normally a pretty generous lot always looking for results and progress but somehow or other Sarri managed to turn that all against him

He has got us to where we are and by using the same formation with pretty much the same players and same substitutions so that is certainly in his favour even though clearly not to everyone’s taste

Agree he is almost damned whatever he does but I personally cannot blame the fans. We pay to be entertained and the only real way we can express any discontent is by booing (I do not like that) or some of the more negative chants. Never seen us walk out or hold a demo before a game which I think is good. There is a level of expectation at Chelsea and not just from the board and we as fans suffered a lot last season

Is Roman right to listen to the fans or simply look at the results – who knows but the last thing he wants is an empty stadium so he has to take some degree of notice of how the fans respond to the team and the manager. KTBFFH

67, it’s not about right or wrong, it’s looking at things objectively.

So for a start let’s look at our fullbacks in comparison to Liverpool’s. Trent Alexander Arnold and Robertson. Both provided 13 and 12 assists for Liverpool this season playing football like sarriball.

Dave and Alonso got 14 assist between them.

It’s just one point I pick up on. Sarris system needs fullback who can deliver from the byline and outside the 18 yard box. We’ve been woeful in this area this season.

The wide players just don’t contribute enough, bar hazard who has had his best season in the blue of Chelsea. Hazard gets it, Willian and Pedro clearly don’t and continue to make bad decisions on the pitch. How many times has either Willian or Pedro cut back inside and been forced back to the half way line or lose the ball and concede a counter attack?

Sarri isn’t responsible for players who can’t adapt, he said he would work with what he has and we all though great. But the players have been found out wanting a little. The side looks old and stale and we need fresh blood to continue down the sarriball path. But I would fear for rlc cho Ampadu among others if we change the manager again. Liverpool didn’t qualify for the champions league the season klopp turned up. He like sarri didn’t have a pre season… we managed to qualify, yes because other teams are worse than us, but that is how a league is supposed to work isnt it? you finish where it’s merited.

I’ve been bored by some of the football, baffled by his substitutions, amazed at his stubbornness, but it has paid off as we now have champions league revenue again. More pulling power should the ban be suspended… or richer for when we can sign players after it.

We may, just may, end up with a cup. we put up with some terrible football under conte and Jose, they won things, sarri might just win something too not playing the horrible defensive counter attacking football. The game has changed, Chelsea need to or we will be lost for another few seasons and lord only knows how the fans will react to that…

Give the man pre season and more time to work with the squad, if senior players want out, ship them out, they’re half the problem as demonstrated this season and last. Willian after the fa cup final tweeting and covering contes face… we’ve all been here before…

Like I say, fully expect sarri to walk. Then we will be in deep trouble. Be careful for what you wish for folks…

Sarri has stated that he wanted to stay. However, we did not know about any interest from Juve at that time. We knew about interest from AS Roma. Again, I am still torn as Sarri delivered what was asked: CL football. And 2 finals are a great bonus, especially if we can win Europa and bury Arsenal to Europa League one more year.

I hope Chelsea think carefully. In term of football and in term of business. If we sack Sarri, the winner will be Sarri. He will receive a good compensation like Conte (did he work last year, no! He was enjoying his payout from Chelsea). And unlike Conte, I think Sarri will find a new club quickly. So double salary for him: Chelsea payout and salary from new club.

Sarri is responsible for who he wants and he wanted only a select few. He was willing to work with what he had. His choice. Re the fullbacks, why didn’t he do something about it and maybe ask to purchase a player that can cross a football in the January window? We can dissect things all we want but the end product is what counts for me at 2am in the morning and that is some decent football to watch and consistency. They were disjointed and bloody terrible for a great part. Brilliant in spells and beyond ordinary for other spells, all in the same match, the same opposition. Why? Sarri couldn’t even explain it – Shrugged his shoulders. Said he couldn’t motivate his players. Enough is enough. I repeat that it was a miracle that we got in the top 4. Three teams imploded for about 5 matches each to allow that to happen. A miracle not of our doing. If we were better than Spurs for the best part of that season I give up. They lost Kane Son, and Alli at different vital stagse toward the end of the season which cost them dearly. For both Arsenal and United to collapse was a miracle. We were considered dead and buried at least three times in the last month, ourselves leaking points that we shouldn’t. No, none of the manager, the players or the club generally, get any accolades from me for that, it was simply a MIRACLE. If we beat Arsenal next week he may just get the chance to continue. I repeat again, I hope if he gets that chance he succeeds but I don’t want to be dished up the average fare of this season, next season.

67… again, that’s not really the reality is it… for example we beat Brighton, arsenal drew, we drew at liecester and arsenal lost, we drew with wolves, arsenal lost… in other words, we picked up points when arsenal didn’t. We beat spurs arsenal drew etc etc. Did they throw it away or did Chelsea earn the third place finish?

its not that other teams threw it away, it’s just the teams from 6th onwards have caught up with the teams outside of Liverpool and city. To say we qualified by the back door or other teams lack of form, we finished above spurs and arsenal. It’s bananas and shows that fans are looking for any excuse to beat a man up.

    1) Credit to Sarri for somehow getting us to 2 finals and top 4 with so much turmoil.

    2) I still think he needs to go. The Atmosphere is like when we had Benitez in charge minus the boring football.

Just remember we averaged scoring about 1 goal per game through December to March. That entire part of the season was really hard to watch.

Roman,” 9 you keep peddling this myth that sarri has made mistakes along the way, yet the results and end of season league table suggest totally otherwise…”

Nobody can argue with the fact that we ended up where we wanted to be in the PL but how we got there is still highly questionable and not just imo!

I can’t believe you truly believe that Sarri didn’t make mistakes tactically and team selection wise, in his handling of CHO and RLC and in some of his outpourings against certain players.

Losing to City and even Bournemouth is acceptable but losing 6 nil to City by playing completely inappropriate tactics isn’t same can be said for losing 4 nil to Bournemouth to 4 second half goals.

“Let’s clear this notion that Lampard will be ready to manage Chelsea.”
I’ve not said that at all I have consistently said it is probably too early for Lampard but if we’re stuck with a transfer ban and we need to strengthen the squad via the young players we have available to us I understand why the media are suggesting that Roman might think a Lampard Morris combination might be better to bring that about.

Finally Sarri is far too smart to walk without he’s got somewhere to go to if he goes he won’t go until he’s either pushed with his pockets full of the Club’s cash or someone like Juve offer him an attractive alternative which would not only save us a bundle of cash but also net us some unlikely compensation too.
