Today, I watched a few games on DAZN and, while I find the whole notion of playing in empty stadiums to be absurd, the quality of play exhibited in the Southampton v Crystal Palace match, alone, made me worry greatly for our dear team.
I don’t know when the transfer deadline is or what SB has up his sleeve, but going into battle with the same ageing and mediocre squad that just barely made it out of the Chum-League is daunting.
We have two young and talented players, in Pereira and Diangana, who belong at this level. But so many of our other guys are just not good enough, too slow and too old. Ivanovic must be a mate of SB’s and Deaney always looks fat and not altogether fit. So, in the swift modern game, we are going to get buried.
I watched Zaha and Eze burning up the turf. And at the end of the game the former just ran away from Stephens, making me wonder what the likes of Sawyers, Livermore, Phillips and Bartley are going to do? Harvey Barnes will eat them alive, and I’m sure that Leicester have recruited a bunch of exciting young players that we have never heard of before who will embarrass us.
I hope I’m wrong, but I have a nasty feeling that we may challenge Derby’s record for the fewest points in a Premier League season.
