The record-breaking rise of Sepp van den Berg – Liverpool’s next Joe Gomez
Never heard of him…Looks like our first summer signing. Could be another De ligt but for only 2million. Anybody heard of this kid?
June 25, 2019 at 8:22 pm #1761995No I’ve just read the same reports as you probably… apparently he is the one Ajax want to take over from De Ligt… He needs more muscle but he got time on his side and is probably the most experienced centerback of his age in Europe.
June 26, 2019 at 4:06 pm #1762275If he becomes better than De Ligt in 2-3 years then it will be a masterpiece!!
June 26, 2019 at 7:10 pm #1762304We also got Ki-Jana Hoever these two young kids might form the basis of Hollands defence in the future!
June 27, 2019 at 11:44 am #1762422Signed for 4.4 million… That’s with all add ons
June 27, 2019 at 5:27 pm #1762569Has potential this kid, but has a long long way to go.
Nowhere near de ligt level.
He won’t feature in the first team any time soon.
June 27, 2019 at 6:18 pm #1762580….and you can’t argue that he’s not a trued ‘red’!
June 27, 2019 at 9:11 pm #1762606Must have a lot of potential, apparently Munich made a flurry of last-minute calls to try and sabotage the deal, was also tipped to signed by Ajax as the replacement for De ligt. I see shades of Gomez about this deal, as JC said he’s probably not ready to feature regularly for a while yet, but maybe the season after next he will begin to feature especially as we phase out Lovren (I can’t see Lovren getting a contract extension). We bought Gomez young too but Gomez was maybe a little bit further ahead development wise than Berg.
June 27, 2019 at 11:52 pm #1762613Bayern Munich sought to hijack Sepp van den Berg’s move to Liverpool while he was having his medical on Merseyside. Also, Rafa Camacho poised for permanent transfer to Sporting Libson. @TimesSport

July 6, 2019 at 4:47 pm #1764533How tall is this kid? Pictures on internet showing him towering above Klopp which is not a small thing, maybe it was the angle lol

July 7, 2019 at 4:26 pm #1764642Thanks Bingo, yeah hes only 17 years old lol. Definitely the chance for him to have a growth spurt and be even taller!
July 10, 2019 at 5:50 pm #1765413Hopefully, we will see this kid in preseason games!
August 10, 2019 at 10:47 am #1773552Lingering talk of a Lovren move to Italy, this time Roma. Wouldn’t begrudge him first team football but with Gomez and Matips injury record not sure Sepp VDB is ready to be dropped in the deep end. If we lose Van Dijk to even short term injury we could be begging for a Lovren. Id rather delay the move til Jan or the summer to see how how Sepp settles in.
August 10, 2019 at 11:01 am #1773559I very much doubt we would sell Lovren given the lack of defensive cover at the moment.
August 10, 2019 at 2:09 pm #1773624If the right offer came in for him I’m sure we’ll take it. At his age with 2 years left on his contract, 100k/wk for a 4th choice defender, I think an offer of around 25-30mil would be too good to turn down. If Klopp can gamble on the front 3 I don’t see why he wouldn’t do the same with 3 CBs. We did go 6 months before eventually signing VVD without signing anyone else. In any case whoever comes in will be partnering VVD and we still have Fabinho who can play there. He might even experiment with Keita or Wijnaldum as a #6 if he isn’t going to use Henderson there if the situation calls for it.
August 10, 2019 at 2:13 pm #1773626I think the rumoured offer is closer to the £15mil mark which is a ridiculous amount considering his age and experience.
August 10, 2019 at 2:43 pm #1773640The difference is that we don’t have even have proper cover at the FB positions.
August 10, 2019 at 3:38 pm #1773669I don’t see Lovren leaving, I’m pretty certain that Klopp wants to keep everyone together, he was not happy with the timing of the window… I think it’s a good decision because normally we need to start strongly and getting rid of the suspense of a new player, settling in and all that, getting that player up to speed with new tactics, to know the rest of the lads… its alot of work that needs to be done.
Now we’ve been prepping for the start of the season with out all those distractions, we are going to need every player available… I’m surprised that both Grujic and Wilson left on loan but quite honestly those two could do with the extra game time they will get because they are really good players.
August 11, 2019 at 7:39 am #1773746We have Milner who has been more than adequate cover at LB thus far and Klopp mentioned previously in an interview with the Redmen TV that Henderson is also an option at RB. The Ox has also played as a wing back for Arsenal. On the Liverpool website, Hoever, VDB and Larouci have been included in the first team section along with Brewster, Elliot and Jones. I’m sure they’ll get their chance in the League Cup or FA cup and slowly be integrated into the team. While there aren’t any better 4th choice options out there compared to Lovren ultimately he’s a 4th choice and I don’t think we’d miss him too much given the options we have. Even using Milner and Henderson as FBs our midfield is still extremely well stocked. My personal opinion is that either Wijnaldum or Keita would be good options in the FB areas as they both have great engines and understand the balance between defence and offense but ultimately it’s whatever Klopp decides. Whether Lovren goes or not I have no issue with either outcome.
