Not sure what to make of this one. They surely will put out their best possible side and whatever we put out should still be up to the task. This however is a Cup game and we all know what can happen in those. I’ll ruin my tipping record if I have a go here so I might just sit on the fence and say a draw and penalties (not sure which way those penalties will go looking down perched up there on my fence with those magnificent crystal balls of mine). Surely though Loftus-Cheek starts this one. He’s looked good this season when given a run.

Southampton are fighting for survival I expect them to prioritise their League game at the weekend and I expect their team selection to reflect that also Broja can’t play against us.

Probably a number of changes from Chelsea too but as Tuchel said you can’t choose the trophies you can win.

No Loftus-Cheek. Must be injured as he has not even been selected as an impact player from the bench.

Well that’s Cup football for you. That 2nd half could have been table topping Soton v strugglers Chelsea the way it unfolded. Penalties it is and, well here we go. The lottery begins. Still sitting on the fence getting splinters :)))

Defenders are the best penalty takers at Stamford Bridge. They got it done. Mount missed again. We progress.

Suprised we didn’t bring Jorginho on for the penalties but we squeezed through anyway.😊

Only saw the last 20 min + pens. Southampton could have won it. We did not play well from what I watched. Chelsea did it again, winning on penalties. Under Tuchel somehow we became experts on penalty shootout. I still remember UCL semi with Mou against Liverpool. And of course the UCL final where Terry missed his penalty. Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, … the list goes on. We were not good on penalties. But this season we’ve won all 3 shootouts. Not bad!!

I look at the bright side and I’m sure you do as well. We are top of the table, have got through consecutive Rounds of the Carabao Cup on penalties, sit well enough in the Champions League and should progress, hold a Super Cup and don’t lose very often. Right now I’d hate to be a Manchester United supporter. I reckon when CR7 returned they believed they would conquer the world. One day they may well do but not this season. How can they be this bad. We continue to chug along. Put together basically a 2nd eleven against both Villa and Soton and get through. Never expect to just beat up Premiership Teams and when it comes to Cup footie, expect the unexpected. All is good right now in SW6.

Yes Aindro, 1st half we were much better, breathtaking at times offensively and reasonably secure defensively. When we got the late goal in the first half I believe we were good value for it. Second half they came at us and put us under pressure. Kepa cocked up for their goal however made up for it on numerous occasions 2nd half with some magnificent saves. Yes, Kepa kept us in it. We had a few good moments too just didn’t convert. Soton did not try and play it out for the draw to their credit and if we had lost on penalties it would have been fair.

Terrible team selected by Tuchel and a bad all round performance give or take a couple of players, Noone can rely on penalty shootouts forever, the law of averages says we will lose the next penalty shootout, so Tuchel needs to choose a better and more balanced team. As for Saul Niguez we were conned, his a total waste of time and space, send him home. We have players who can do the job sitting on the bench.

Team selection was effected by injuries to the front three of Pulasic, Lukaku and Werner and injuries and tooth surgery to RLC, Azpilucueta and Christiansen.

In the last two matches I would suggest that pretty much every squad player that was available got a run. That’s making full use of the squad to give players a break and others a go and it worked out admirably with full reward in both competitions. Any chance you might like to dispute that Moos?

    This will be tough

    Quarter-final draw in full
    Tottenham vs West Ham

    Arsenal vs Sunderland

    Brentford vs Chelsea

    Liverpool vs Leicester City

I was hoping for Sunderland at home 67.😊 Not an easy draw but no travel and it could have been tougher.

For sure 999. Get through that and then there’s another London derby in the semis if we avoid Liverpool/Leicester. As we are the biggest and best team in London that would have to be the preference. London is blue after all 😉

It’s not the worst draw. We avoided Liverpool, Spurs, Leicester & Arsenal. It’s not the best draw either though. (Sunderland at home as 999 mentioned :p). Brentford showed us how good they are.

Us winning by pen again??? I would prefer this time we win in a normal time.

We should be able to beat Brentford their good start seems to be slowly phasing out however it’s is a cup match so that also encourages them as we not probably going to field the best 11 although tbh I am still not sure who that may be. I think Loftus Cheek for one should be a starter in the best 11.

Totally agree Notnice. He has to start some of these matches sooner rather than later although Tommy T may be considering him as an impact player however I reckon he’s too good for that. He needs the opportunity to cement a place notwithstanding the outstanding mid field competition he is up against. It’s a long season, there are a lot of competitions to try and win and we have a squad for a reason. Rotate and rest. The last thing we want to see is RLC putting out the feelers to go elsewhere. He is starting to show what he is capable of when given the fleeting chance. He needs a run of matches under his belt. We don’t need Kante against the inferior opponents and the same can be said for Jorginho. Kovacic has gone to another level this season. Some of his passing creating assists has been sublime apart from his other work.
