watched this game as it was on BT, and he really is far better than i thought he would be, pacy as you like and can certainly score a goal..his directness and running scares teams but he needs more around him….great buy so far though especially for the money paid…

@happyhurling -yep have been impressed with the effort and impact he’s had, especially coming in at so cheap (in today’s market) and also for being thrown in at the deep end.

His crossing leaves a lot to be desired but if he learns to cross the ball properly I’ll tell you what, he’ll be one of the best wingers in the league.

Sympathy – Yep, he still has lots to learn but it’s been an impressive start. You’d have to say all of Ole’s signings have an air of quality about them. I just hope he’s given the time to properly make his mark on this squad because, as we can tell, the results this season are going to be very hit and miss.

@happyhurling – As much as I’d love Ole to get a proper chance to build a team I don’t think he will be given the luxury simply because, if results do not go our way, Woodward will once again deflect the blame onto the manager and get him sakced to ensure he doesn’t get the flack of yet another failure (which he has rightfully deserved to get for ages now).

United fans who attend matches or are close to the club need to make enough noise to back the manager and make it abundantly clear that Woodward needs to move out of the football side of things and focus on the commercials and finally get in a DoF.

I honestly think that, at this stage, a DoF will make a massive, massive difference to the club if the right appointment is done.

    Cheers

I think Ole wanted another midfield signing during the transfer window. Then when that didn’t happen he understandably started thinking of ways to work around it. Playing Pogba so deep isn’t the answer though, given how his best performances for us has always tended to come when played in a more advanced position.

I think this line-up could be the solution, right now at least:

    ——-Martial Rashford——–
    James—————————–
    —Pogba Fred McTominay—
    Shaw Maguire Lindelöf AWB
    —————DDG—————-

Rashford playing as a central forward with the added responsibility of occasionally drifting out wide right in order to provide width there.

The main objetive with the midfield reshuffle is to allow McTominay to be an 8 and Pogba to be a 10 (-ish). If Fred doesn’t come good in this formation, substitute him for Pereira or Matic. He certainly has the work rate and pressing ability, at least. It’s really only that he’s sometimes a bit sloppy on the ball that is the issue.

Next transfer window, buy a CDM like Longstaff or someone else, as well as a stop-gap back-up LB. Also, obviously get Sancho if at all possible. We don’t need another central forward signing right now. We already have Rashford, Martial and Greenwood plus James and Lingard who can play there if need be.
