Klopp has been instrumental in this “debacle” too.
He talked with VVD without permission.

Noc Red,I’ve been a Fan of Alderweireld since His Ajax Days,A sneaky bid would be worth a go and at probably Half the Price of VVD it is seriously worth thinking about IMHO.

don’t disagree taxi, he would be great but very difficult to pull off

ginger come on, unless Klopp leaked this stuff to the press I don’t see how he is culpable for any of it… tapping up happens all the time but why have we been so blatant about it?
in the midst of all this we’ve left VVD hanging as well, he didn’t come out and say that he wanted a move… we leak ours and his intentions and now he also has to suffer coz he doesn’t get the move he wanted and he has rejected other offers
anyways time to move on, put this behind us and look at other targets

GInger, Klopp is totally innocent, managers talk to prospective targets all the time.

And surely our Director of Football would have provided guidance to Klopp on this if permission was strictly necessary in this case?

The issue here is quite clearly and 100% the leaking of the news of Van Dijk wanting to join Liverpool before a bid had been made by us. This is the person responsible for this fiasco, if they had just kept their mouth shut, instead of boasting to the press, there would have been no problem – the mole must be identified and weeded out

Not sure there’s evidence Klopp spoke to Virgil, ginger. Even if he did this sort of thing goes on all the time. As songman says it’s the bellend with the big mouth who’s to blame.

More of the same lowballing with VVD and Salah? . . The players that we’ve made bids for over our transfer record on both, is it?

Everything is an outrage now. There is a thing about having more than one option that can be a handy mechanic against being held to ransom. . .

yes, the VVD thing has been a disaster but let’s wind it in a bit. There’s loads of time left for us to not only rescue the situation but to have a brilliant summer transfer window. Klopp will have been angry and firm enough with the right people to get his message across and we’re likely hearing nothing now because information is on lock down within the club.

On another subject did anyone else see the England under 20’s smash Italy 3-1, two goals from Solanke and a game changing performance (when he came on) from Ojo? Solanke might be the only signing so far but he looks like a good start. YNWA RIP the 96

It seems that the sporting director is being summoned by FSG. He should be fired after this fiasco with VVD.

The transfer committee thought that they could take a leaf out of Barcelona and Madrid’s media antics and it backfired big style.

On a another note this episode isnt just a marker for Liverpool its a marker for the entire league/europe. Gone are the days that mid level PL teams have to be bullied into selling their players even for astronomical fees. Its crazy to think relegated Sunderland got nearly twice the amount we were thinking of handing over to Southampton for VVD. This is the difference now, mid level clubs can say bugger off to the mega rich teams as player sales are not critical to survival. We got arrogant, we showed disrespect, and got shamed. We need to move on quickly, FSG need to do a extensive review of the situation and learn from it.

Did a bit of googling and seen a list of players that we should go for. I’ll be sending in my CV tonight, hopefully have a job on the transfer committee by end of the week, haha.

The VVD deal might not be completely dead yet.
We want the player, the player wants lfc… The ball’s in Southampton’s court. If VVD is unhappy to stay and Soton decide to cash in, perhaps we could strike a deal.

Michael Edwards was promoted by FSG to Sporting Director only 6 months ago, I doubt he would be fired. We have been tapping up players and lowballing deals before he started so FSG probably are aware of it and they condone this kind of underhanded means. Probably to the Americans, this is business.

I hope so JC, but this seems like it could drag on, and is that in the best interests of Liverpool?

I think the player is clearly unsettled and Southampton are probably assessing their options with VVD. How badly does he want to leave, can they convince him to stay for at least another season, or is he likely to hand in a transfer request or worse refuse to train or play for the club again?

If Southampton think the situation is salvageable then they may do a Suarez on him and promise to sell him if he commits to one more season.

But if he hands in a transfer request and spits his dummy out then will Southampton want negative influence hanging around the club, with all the ongoing drama that it will bring? Probably not.

Therefore, I think his chances of coming to Liverpool all depend on how much of a stink VVD makes at Southampton, if big enough stink is made, we may have a chance. But there were some rumours before that Southampton were going to charge 75 million. I know Klopp really wanted to buy the player at all costs but even at 75 million I think Klopp will go shopping elsewhere.

Regardless I’m sure Klopp will want the majority of his key signings way before the CL playoffs, so we should know by then whats going on, whenever that is…

Ok Liverpool please don’t leak private discussions between Naby Keita and club, I really like that guy even more than VVD.

So, it’s mildly embarrassing that we have had to issue an apology and (for now) withdrawn our interest on Van Dijk. However, it’s nothing compared with the potential embarrassment that it would bring on the club if we actually paid 60 million for, and let’s be honest, a relatively unproven centre back. It’s just not what I like to think of as “the Liverpool way” and all it does is set us up for ridicule as soon as he starts playing like David Luiz – at least in his first Chelsea spell. I’d feel much more comfortable with a reasonable bid in the 20-25 million region for Stefan de Vrij who is a bit younger than van Dijk, but has 18 more international caps than him. Someone go and figure.

    A small suggestion to FSG:
INstead of trying to sign the players from Southampton, why not sign their head scout?

Instead of bargaining and bargaining in every deal, why not reform the scout committee? It can save you a lot more than bargaining.

We have already get Klopp from Dortmund, why not get the scout team and even the FOB from Dortmond? They can 100% help Klopp.

A team like Liverpool having a negotiation team and Sporting director who does not know how to avoid those so called tapping up is really a joke. We need more top class players but we also need top class scout team and top class FOB to help Klopp.
