50 mil for Werner is a very good price for a player who fits in our play system.February 13, 2020 at 6:02 am #1826158
Saw the links to Bukayo Saka. Watched this guy a few times and I rate him quite highly. Able to play anywhere down the left side, I think he’d be the ideal long-term cover for Robertson. I still think he needs to do quite a bit of work on his strength, physicality and fitness though.February 13, 2020 at 10:43 am #1826226
I do not think that Klopp ever interested in Sancho with the cost above 100 mil….February 13, 2020 at 5:57 pm #1826408
Reports that we are in for Sancho growing 100m+, cant see it myself, I think we will go leftfield and get a better value forward in Werner.February 13, 2020 at 6:32 pm #1826421
Don’t see it either.
Can see us getting Werner in though.
Minamino will spend the next few months bedding in and will be ready for the new season hopefully.
With Werner in I can see us going more 4-2-3-1 at home games and blowing teams away.
That allows us to play all four of Werner, Firmino, Salah and Mané keeping them all happy.
By the time Salah and Mané goes off to AFCON Werner and Minamino should be well bedded in and able to take up the slack.February 13, 2020 at 6:42 pm #1826428
Werner ia a feasible solution.February 14, 2020 at 8:40 pm #1826689

Mightily impressed with Werner last night. Not much meat on him but he’s fast, aggressive, intelligent and demanding of himself and his team-mates. Looks as tho he can operate anywhere along the front three.
Hmm….February 20, 2020 at 5:02 pm #1828207
IMO the main thing that has set us apart from the rest of the league this season has been how we’ve managed our squad. Over the festive period and January, what I’ve observed is clubs putting out their best squads for every game in desperate attempts to get points on the board, which is why we’ve seen the likes of Chelsea and Leicester fall away since that period. It’s no accident that we’ve been winning the fitness battle in most games which is pretty much 1/2 the job done. Having witnessed this, I’m sure that most managers decided to put their pedal to the floor in hopes that the mid-season break would provide the rest needed at that stage in the season. With the players rejuvenated by the break I think we’ll see some improved performances against us like we did at the start of the season but ultimately for that to fall away towards the end of the season.
Having said that, I think we still have a lot we can improve on. I believe we can score a lot more goals if we bring in the right players in the right positions. Offensive set-pieces in particular have been poor of late and it’s not surprising given that VVD is our only outlet. For every moment of magic from Salah, there’s another 10 incidents that he doesn’t pick out a pass, takes an awful touch, finishes poorly or loses the ball in general. Add to that his lack of defensive contribution and I find myself wondering if there really isn’t another player out there that can improve on that. I don’t know if he’s played too many games or whatever but we need to bring in some proper cover. Origi hasn’t had the same magic this season and Shaq will most likely leave. I say let both go, bring in 2 new forwards, develop Minamino in a similar style to Keita, promote Jones and push Ox to cover FB like Milner has done for us because frankly, he’s been awful in midfield and further forward bar the odd goal. A CB that can carry goal threat to replace Lovren wouldn’t be amiss either.February 21, 2020 at 4:10 pm #1828516
Good points Razor, when I look at Ox sometimes I wonder if its do with fitness, sometimes he looks absolutely knackered, hes a bif guy so I can understand why he would feel like that. But I also think its do do with the metal side of things becasue its no wonder Klopp loves Hendo, Milner and Gini so much becasue these three players whilst not the most gifted in the world are the players that mentally understand gengenpressing the best. Mentallly these guys are at the top of the tree with regard to the pressing triggers. The rest of the players I would put in the second tier with regard to that. Unfortunately those three players dont have much creativity contibutions. I think the trick next season is to develop better creativity from the midfield from the usual suspects and intergrate Minimino and Jones into the 1st team to help out with that. I like Keita but unfortuanately we cant rely on him as good as he might be. I dont think Klopp will go out and but a Jack Grealish type player but equally I wouldnt be surprised either as its the one area of our team that oppositon can exploit.February 22, 2020 at 1:37 am #1828626
Razor, I agree with you general about most everything except how Salah defends because I see a lot from him there, he defends deep when we have to defend against a set-piece very often and backtracks every ball he loses, he might operate a bit higher than our other forwards at times but there is a reason for it, I would not knock his defensive contribution this season or the last, he grew into I’ll admit but he does a lot more than most give him credit for and I for one can’t fault his contribution this season defensive wise…February 22, 2020 at 10:56 am #1828657
To me Sancho is overrated and overpriced, Weener would be a better option.
As Mwake says, we could do with a creative midfielder in certain situations, say someone of the nature of Coutinho or Bernado Silva. But the issue is whether they will be able to fit in with the intense way Klopp plays. Also we have achieved spectacular results with our hard-working, hard-pressing midfield so Klopp might not want to change the formula too much.
One thing is for sure, the genius Michael Edwards is working on our summer transfer plans right now, and he might surprise us once againFebruary 22, 2020 at 11:06 am #1828659
I meant Werner obviously…February 22, 2020 at 11:49 am #1828670
I’d be agreeable to the prospect of going for Jack Grealish. Everytime I see him playing for Villa – this season in particular – he impresses me with his ability, attitude, work rate and the way he controls the game. Yes, he was a bit of a knobhead in his youth, but we’re talking about 5-6 years ago now, and he seems to have matured beyond measure. But we know about how much emphasis Klopp and his recruitment team put on the mental side of a player and I can’t guarantee though that he will meet their very stringent criteria.February 22, 2020 at 6:51 pm #1828808
Madisson against Grealish!!
