I understand all the concerns raised on here re our transfer business which understandably accelerated with the Arsenal result. The Ake/Kounde mix up cost us and seemingly there were concerns about Kounde’s ability to cope with the aerial threat and physicality of the PL?
We’ve still got until September 1st to sort things out and hopefully there’s every chance to do that and on the positive side it may well open up an opportunity for young Colwill.
July 26, 2022 at 9:20 am #2117285Nine, kounde was azpi’s replacement and we have spent a year chasing him, his height was never a problem and if barca weren’t in for him we would probably have him on our books already.
I knew weeks ago we would be short at start of season it was too much to deal with in one window especially for a new owner so I don’t hold it against tuchel or boehly.
Just like in lamps first season we for sure can look at the positive of the opportunity’s afforded to younger players but that’s also what’s so disappointing as we seem to have gone backwards 2 years in 2 months.
My concern is the mental state of the squad, last year the players believed we could challenge and that gave us some real impetus early on, but I feel we will start this season with no player believing we can challenge.
July 26, 2022 at 11:56 am #2117362Mount and Reece re-new contract talks are next up on the club’s agenda.I’m betting the shambles being witnessed here by both players with the vast number of unmotivated players and players not up to the task to make us serious contenders for top honours does not inspire their confidence. Not encouraging viewing atm tbh to the new season as yet.We need to sort our shit out sharpish or else it won’t just rain,it will pour.We have new owners, just hope there’s no knee-jerk reactions if there’s a bit of a hiccup when the real action starts in earnest, the new hierarchy must resist any overtures to make a quick manager change at the first sign of trouble hoping it will stop the rot.
July 26, 2022 at 12:09 pm #2117365If reports are to be believed, a number of established players were unhappy at Gilmour being sent away from pre season and some of the perennial “loanees”, some of whom want away, being kept on.
I imagine as well that there may be many players totally underwhelmed by the lack of transfer activity both in and out at this stage.
I would have thought sending some of the loanee players who are on the periphery to train with the development squad would have sent a clearer message. It may have encouraged them to ensure their agents accelerated an exit strategy no matter what, especially if they had any World Cup ambitions.
July 26, 2022 at 12:40 pm #2117379Yeah that didn’t make sense Niblue I agree
Mtal, James and Mount are everything we want the new chelsea to be about, signing them up to new deals is imperative and I hope it is soon and without issue🤞
July 26, 2022 at 1:49 pm #2117396It was a mistake IMO to have sent Gilmour packing from the pre-season. Ross Barkley or Kenedy or Michy who don’t have any future with the team should have been sent home instead. It’s too late for that but it’s not too late for Tuchel to rectify this mistake by including Gilmour back to the squad at Barkley or Kenedy or Michy’s place.
Luckydestiny, agreed mate about the mental of the squad. This is a worrying problem. We don’t have that believe anymore. A beating of 4-0 against Arsenal, our inability to score more against 2 weaker oppositions, all these are bad for the morale. It’s inevitable that we’ll have some setbacks though. After so long we experienced glory under Roman, the takeover for this new ownership will inevitably set some things back. We are seeing it already in transfer business. Again, I just hope that the setback will not be that big and the team, powered by our academy graduates, will make sure that they do everything in their power to perform at the highest level. We’d seen this under Lampard where the team performed admirably despite setbacks.
Concerning Azpi’s situation, I really would like to give the armband to Jorginho. Kanté will be our 2nd capt and instate Mount to be our 3rd capt. We need stability, we need somebody who is commited to be our captain
July 26, 2022 at 5:41 pm #2117445Diego Costa available on a free transfer. Just putting it out there!
July 26, 2022 at 5:53 pm #2117447As I’d said before: Luis Suarez free transfer too.
And chelsea1967 said Gary Cahill free transfer.July 26, 2022 at 5:58 pm #2117450How about Frank leboeuf 🤣
July 26, 2022 at 5:58 pm #2117451Glenn hoddle a free agent too!
July 26, 2022 at 8:58 pm #2117493The perrenial Gianfranco Zola anyone?,lol!
July 26, 2022 at 9:14 pm #2117496If we could bring someone from the past, Frank Lampard would be my choice. As a player though, not as a manager, at least yet. 🤣
Joking aside, not much news today. We are linked with Dumfries, Fofana, Skriniar etc etc.
Saw the images from Cobham that Kanté trained. I think we still need him, pretty sure the team with Kanté is a stronger team. I hope with the players we have at the moment, Tuchel will be able to motivate them to be ready for our first match against none other Frank Lampard (Everton).
July 27, 2022 at 8:45 am #2117549I’m sorry but the notion is that Tuchel has either lost the plot or secretly is doing a Conte and wants to leave. Conte and Tuchel are not fools they want to win big trophies and know or feel they not going to do it with the current lot they had or have now and little good stock available in the market. His looking for a way out but doesn’t want to let people down at the same time.
July 27, 2022 at 9:52 am #2117573Lucky, I was just just going by what I read re Kounde’s height being an issue we’ll never know the truth but something held us back from going for Kounde until after the Ake transfer hit the buffers?
July 27, 2022 at 10:18 am #2117587Understandably there’s a bit of doom and gloom on here currently particularly around transfers but it’s not over until the fat lady sings and there’s still 36 days of the window to go if we’ve not signed anyone further by then it will be very worrying. Call me foolish but I predict we’ll have an additional player or two on board by then.
Re Gilmour and Vale I think we could have given them a bit longer this pre season but cutting them from the squad was based on strength where they play and the likes of Michy etc for instance don’t play in the position of Gilmour and Tuchel would have made the decision on where we are well covered.
Obviously the uncertainty makes everyone question everything on here with regards to James and Mount not committing their futures to Chelsea here’s what they said a couple of weeks ago.
I grew up as a Chelsea fan and I made my name playing for Chelsea the club I’ve always supported,” James said. “I don’t see why that would change, I play for Chelsea now and I’m enjoying it.” Reece James
Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount hopes to sit down and discuss a new Blues contract over the next couple of months.
“I’ve got two years but I’m extremely happy at this club. I’ve been here since six years old.” Mason Mount.
Both players have Chelsea in their blood.
July 27, 2022 at 11:22 am #2117626I would be concerned that Tuchel just does not rate Gilmour. Given that neither Kante or Loftus Cheek travelled to pre season and Saul had left the club it meant that only Jorghino, Kova and Gallagher were there as genuine contenders for the midfield roles.
My problem with Jorghino is he has already stated he wants to return to Italy when his contract expires and appears to be setting himself up for a big pay day (free transfer) next Summer. Personally I would be cashing in now, if only to send a clear message to others that they cannot take the p!$$.
July 27, 2022 at 12:20 pm #2117658If we’re all being honest Gilmour went backwards last season playing at Norwich and a full season playing regularly at another PL Club ideally not one of the relegation candidates will be better for his career rather than being a squad player at Chelsea playing infrequently.
I really can’t see Tuchel going back on his decision and reintroducing Gilmour back into the first team squad this season and a loan move surely beckons.
July 27, 2022 at 12:24 pm #2117660I understand that may have been brought up nine, I mean it was Azpi’s weakness too, but for the club to leak that now sounds like sour grapes because despite that we want him badly so it’s irrelevant.
July 27, 2022 at 1:04 pm #2117674The thing is Lucky if we wanted Kounde that badly why didn’t we go for him at the beginning of the window ahead of Ake? and why did we only bid for Kounde after the Ake bid floundered on valuation of the player? But as you suggest it’s irrelevant now.😊Cheers 9’s
July 27, 2022 at 2:00 pm #2117712Mount & James, I have feeling that as long as the value is right, we shouldn’t have difficulties to tie them down with new contract. They are Chelsea through and through, they aren’t only players but they are fans too. Hence looking at the situation where all looks doom & gloom (using the nine’s words😊) where players aren’t interested anymore to come to Chelsea (Dembélé, Raphinha, de Ligt, Koundé, now it seems Kimpembe, the list will go on), I say that we should use our own academy. Frank Lampard, credit where it’s due, started that due to transfer bans and his experience resulted in a frank success. Now Tuchel can opt to do it too.
Jorginho, again he’s the least of our problems, at least for now. Azpi & Alonso are bigger problems. Werner, Ziyech are bigger problems. Players who want to leave.
Moos’comment about Tuchel: I still believe that Tuchel is the best man for us. This upcoming season will be difficult for him, so expect some turbulences. Departures of key players like Rudiger & Christensen and now difficulties in transfer market with Boehly a rookie here. But the biggest question for me, would his gamble utilizing a false 9 like Havertz or Sterling instead of a pure striker pay off? I think with the quality upfront such as Mount, Pulisic albeit inconsistency, Ziyech if he stays, Havertz, Sterling coupled with our wing backs Chilwell & James: Chelsea will create chances. But would we get enough goals???
