BL, didn’t Sterling recently claim that Tuchel played a major role in persuading him to join Chelsea?
July 29, 2022 at 9:42 am #2118162That’s true Nine, I can only deduce that Tuchel didn’t actually fancy Kounde that much, which would align with the stories that he was concerned by Kounde’s height. It certainly does seem as though we didn’t really push that hard to get the deal over the line!
July 29, 2022 at 9:52 am #2118167Yes BL I’ve been suggesting the same considering we had agreed terms with Kounde last Summer why didn’t we make a offer on the opening of the Summer window and why did we prioritize Ake ahead of Kounde and only bid for Kounde once the Ake deal was dead?
July 29, 2022 at 10:10 am #2118174What’s all this height business got to do with ones ability, I’m reasonably short and I was even told in my face you not tall enough to be a top player but guess what i turned out to be one of the best. In fact it’s s big asset cause the stupider players underestimate you although it’s only for a while.
July 29, 2022 at 10:19 am #2118177Did they have to get on their knees to tell you to your face? 🤣
July 29, 2022 at 10:28 am #2118181Moos most coaches have a preference for a tall centre half which makes sense for clearing all those dangerous crosses and maybe the keeper too. I doubt they worry about height for any other area.
July 29, 2022 at 11:58 am #2118204There must be a reason why everyone in the PL has 6 ft plus central defenders.
Of course being a top player in the Hackney Marshes 7th team is a bit different from being a top player at a Club like Chelsea.😊
July 29, 2022 at 12:33 pm #2118215Leicester City missed out to Napoli on the signing of South Korea centre-back Kim Min-jae, 25, from Fenerbahce due to a lack of transfer funds. (Football Insider) BBC Football
Suggests along with other indicators that Leicester are struggling for funds.
July 29, 2022 at 12:44 pm #2118221Yeah,right from the outset I too had an asterisk next to kounde’s name, still, irrespective of Kounde’s head later getting turned by Barca, you have to ask the question why we got caught with our pants down spurning a bird in the hand to go chasing after two birds in the bush and ending up with jackall, this shouldn’t happen to big club like Chelsea, was this the result of naivety or cockiness or both?
July 29, 2022 at 1:55 pm #2118249Sirs, repeat after me: Chelsea aren’t a big club anymore. We just changed ownership. We haven’t won the league since 2016-2017. People have forgotten that we just won the UCL last year. Or City & Liverpool are just at the moment too good so that people forget that we were also good (enough). Look at all these players who don’t want to come to Chelsea: Lewandowski, Raphinha, de Ligt, Koundé, Kimpembé …. the list goes on. It says something. The era where the best talents in the world like Hazard wanted to join us is gone.
The only way to make us a big club again is to win the league. Or at least to narrow the gap with City & Pool.
foxyfoxes: it’s me who brought up that Leicester need money. It’s all rumours in the media, nothing is sure. But there’s no smoke without fire. Schmeichel wants to leave (to Nice moreover, not to one of big clubs), Tielemans always in the rumours: I think you should be asking questions what is happening there?
July 29, 2022 at 2:37 pm #2118264We didn’t pursue Kounde with vigour at the start of the window we instead we pursued Ake only those in the know can tell you the reason for that time to move on from Kounde now.
July 29, 2022 at 2:48 pm #2118274“Sirs, repeat after me: Chelsea aren’t a big club anymore.”
No! I don’t agree with that at all.
Chelsea have just been sold for a world record price,Chelsea are still one of Europe’s top Clubs ranked 5th in Europe are still one of the PL’s top Clubs albeit still behind City and Liverpool.
Barca are an attractive destination for players not just for the football but also the Stadium, the City and the quality of life there aren’t many Clubs where you can live in luxury by the beach but still commute easily to training and the Stadium. No wonder Messi wants to go back.😊
In terms of incomings let’s wait and see where we are at the end of the window!
July 29, 2022 at 4:37 pm #2118303nine, for me the number of players who rejected us and preferred other clubs are just overwhelming this time, to my taste. Hence my conclusion that we’re not that big anymore. Morever the distance to the top 2 is big. We just won the UCL last year and it doesn’t seem to be a magnet for players to come. I honestly don’t see players go to Barcelona for the city but more for the Barcelona F.C. A club full of tradition, play good football, to work with a legendary player (Xavi) etc etc. Sporting reasons.
Koundé: it’s explained by Sevilla, Chelsea had doubts. So confirmed, our fault then. But if he prefers Barça since the beginning, it’s good that he doesn’t come to Chelsea. We don’t need players like that.
Again cannot watch Udinese, the country where I live is not in the list on CFC website. I hope we can have a positive performance there, so that the morale will be good for the start of the season. I am happy that Gilmour, Ampadu, Broja & Vale are in the squad. But no Colwill though, this disturbs me a lot. Tuchel doesn’t think he will make it? Or is he injured?
July 29, 2022 at 5:14 pm #2118310Completely agree, Nine. It’s not just about football. As much as I love London, if I had a choice between living here or Barcelona on a footballers salary, I’d already be on the plane!
I’ve stayed in the area of Barcelona where a few of the players live (Castel del Fels) and its absolutely stunning. fantastic houses up in the hills overlooking incredible beaches. Not to mention the weather, the food, and the women!July 29, 2022 at 5:19 pm #2118312I say old chap what, it’s all relative, you can even ask Einstein.
July 29, 2022 at 5:46 pm #2118316You took the words out of my mouth BL.😊 Massive Club too.
July 29, 2022 at 5:47 pm #2118317Aindro bud try listing the clubs bigger than Chelsea right now, it’s not that many and like nine pointed out we were just sold for record value.
There are clubs like Madrid, barca, Munich and pool that are bigger historically and a bigger pull now, but we are not any smaller than we were 10 years ago, in fact we are are bigger, the difference is we can no longer out bid everyone for players it’s as simple as that.
July 29, 2022 at 5:49 pm #2118319Pleased to see Gilmour, Ampadu, Broja & Vale in the squad for tonight.
July 29, 2022 at 7:16 pm #2118332“Chelsea have chosen not to give Billy Gilmour, Ethan Ampadu or Kenedy squad numbers for the forthcoming season, which suggests all three are likely to leave the club this summer.” The Metro
July 29, 2022 at 7:25 pm #2118333The lineup vs Udinese is very strong:
Mendy; Azpilicueta (c), Thiago Silva, Koulibaly; James, Kante, Jorginho, Alonso; Mount, Havertz, SterlingKoulibaly & Sterling both start. Except Chilwell for Alonso and probably Kovacic for Jorginho, I think this may be our strongest line-up.
Kenedy & Ampadu don’t get squad number, it’s understandable. They may not be ready for the first team squad. But I really want Gilmour to be part of the squad as he performed really well under Lampard when given opportunities. Does it mean that Broja & Colwill have been given squad number?
