Have to disagree re Gilmour at Norwich yes he failed badly, but he did have a couple of good games for Chelsea, not saying this would change now but he is young. How many players have come to Chelsea in there prime and failed loads.
I agree Tuchel should not slate the players in public as history has proven at our club and others their is only one winner in this situation and its never the manager!September 1, 2022 at 7:51 am #2129428Chelsea have allegedly made bids for defensive midfielders Sangare from PSV and Alvarez from Ajax.
September 1, 2022 at 8:28 am #2129440I think letting Gilmour go permanently would be a bigger mistake than having sent him to Norwich.
Norwich were pure manure last season. Any loan deal should have a clause that if a coach sacked the parent club retain the right to review the deal at the next transfer window if applicable.
Gilmour also picked up a couple of niggling injuries whilst there, however he remained a regular in the Scotland International Team getting rave reviews from the media, pundits and fellow professionals throughout.
The problem he has is the restrictions on loanees (otherwise he could have joined Colvill at Brighton) and the overall height of the squad. Tuchel has hinted at that as being a problem recently, and if you look at the players we have been linked with on the press today alone, Sangare, Alvarez, Leao and the ongoing saga of Aubameyang each one is over 6 foot.
To me he is the ideal replacement for Kante, send him back to Rangers on loan for a season where he will get at least the group stages of Champions League football whilst gaining the experience of challenging for a league title. Next season Jorghino will be away, and there is still a major question mark over Kantes future.
September 1, 2022 at 8:49 am #212944567, unfortunately Gilmour had a terrible season at Norwich even the Norwich fans turned on him tbh it was probably the wrong Club for him, then in the Summer he lost his place in the Scotland team too.
It’s a shame because his early days at Chelsea looked very promising my personal preference would be a season long loan to a decent Club Rangers would be a good fit and he knows the Club and then take a decision on whether to move him on or not next Summer.
September 1, 2022 at 8:56 am #2129447I gave just seen a deal that makes my blood boil. One of our restricted loan moves is used up by sending Baba Rahman to Reading. WTF, that guy will never pull on a Chelsea shirt, he signed a 5 year deal in 2015 and has made 15 appearances. How the hell did he get a contract extension, and in the meantime we risk losing talents like Gilmour and Ampadu due to the rule changes. Pathetic.
September 1, 2022 at 9:42 am #2129462Lol I’m sorry I never tried my luck in the EPL, looks like just about any half decent player can get a contract and get very rich for the rest of his life
September 1, 2022 at 9:58 am #2129471Looks like Aubameyang might happen today?
September 1, 2022 at 10:18 am #2129484Reports that the Aubameyang deal as good as done with Alonso going the other way.
We all know about Chelsea’s history with strikers, however I do not care if he only gets us 10 goals, as long as he makes life extremely difficult for defenders and creates the openings for the likes of Sterling, James, Chilwell, Mount and the others who stay passed this window, who have a goal in them.
September 1, 2022 at 10:36 am #2129499If this is true then Boehly and his team deserve great credit. Barca were insisting we do them as separate deals so they could over charge for auba and then low ball us for alonso knowing we are eager to offload at end of the window. Looks like we called their bluff and got the deal we wanted.
September 1, 2022 at 10:48 am #2129517Now a bit of an issue with Aubameyang, appears Alba will not leave which may cause problems registering Alonso!
September 1, 2022 at 11:27 am #2129535According to Simon Johnson of The Athletic, Chelsea have begun talks with Reece James and Mason Mount over new long-term deals.
Great news!
September 1, 2022 at 11:32 am #2129538Niblue, don’t trust barca at all mate they are trying to stitch us up on this one.
September 1, 2022 at 11:52 am #21295469 great news and lets hope that as part of the new contracts they are handed the Captain and Vice Captain roles. We should be building around them.
LD have to agree, this protracted deal is frustrating and every step of the way it appears that Barca have had the upper hand. We should throw an offer down for Aubameyang… take it or leave it. If they wont budge look elsewhere in the last 11 hours (hoping that we do have a plan b!!)
September 1, 2022 at 1:15 pm #2129570Reports now that Aubameyang is soon to be flying to London for a medical.
September 1, 2022 at 2:07 pm #2129598Losing Gilmour will be a big mistake. Yes he had a bad season, but it was a bad decision that he went to Norwich. The advantage is that he is very young, he can bounce back. He had proven that he can play well, I think Chelsea should keep him at any price. If we sell him we should definitely put a buy back clause.
Baba Rahman, we should have done the same like Barkley. Negotiate a release fee with him. Same as Kenedy and Bakayoko. There’s no point of keeping them. We made mistakes by buying them and now we’d better deal with our losses than extending the problems forever.
I think James should be our captain when Azpi retires & Jorginho leaves. Mount vice-captain. I see James’s infuence getting bigger recently and Mount’s getting smaller. I hope it’s just a rough patch for Mount but this season he’s shown nothing convincing.
Aubameyang, I won’t cry if the deal doesn’t happen. We shouldn’t do any deal with Barcelona anymore. They are a team who gets a lot of exceptions; they are arrogant. They shouldn’t be able to do transfers yet where are the sanctions? None. They bought Koundé, Raphinha, Lewandowski in this transfer window where their cash is scarce. Doesn’t make any sense.
September 1, 2022 at 2:44 pm #2129615Barca are trying it on again!,they are trying to dupe us into giving them Alonso by using Aubamyang as a decoy,Barca must really see Chelsea Football Club as wet behind the ears bunch of mugs.I don’t like this Aubamyang pursuit,I’m highly suspicious…the guy doesn’t want to leave Barca to come here for starters and if he’s made to come he’ll come under protest!…a massive red flag is being waved at us here, but because we’re desperate for a striker we are ignoring the warning signs.Never mind Tuchel claiming him and the player had a great football relationship in former times,it’s different times now and the amicable chemistry between the two is about to be upset!.You heard me say it,if Aubamyang comes he’ll kick up and stink the place out like Lukaku did
September 1, 2022 at 3:02 pm #2129622Mtal, we want auba and barca want alonso. Its rumoured to be 6.5-10m plus alonso. How much do you expect we can demand for alonso? 20m tops imo and that’s being optimistic. Barca’s optimistic vale for auba is around 30m. If it goes ahead on the terms reported no one is duping anyone.
September 1, 2022 at 3:06 pm #2129628In fact mtal it was reported by romano that barca wanted the deals to be separate, presumingly so they could low ball us on alonso after getting us to cough up 30m for auba. It looks like we have averted that and got what we wanted, alonso out, and a striker in, two birds with one stone.
September 1, 2022 at 3:26 pm #2129640Barcelona are despicable. I never like them. Not before when Figo was there or when Messi was there but especially now. They think they are special. They think every player wants to play for them. Now they are getting Bellerin for free. They destabilize Alonso & Azpilicueta.
Contrary to opinions above, I am happy that Azpi remains with us. He is our captain and I think he still can be useful for the team. The problem is we can’t play back 4 anymore, doing right wing back with the obligation to come back to central defender like what Reece James has done this season is not ideal for Azpi. Heck, it’s not ideal for Reece James anymore. Tuchel has to stop tinkering (the positions) like that now that we have Fofana. We play 3-4-3, not 4-3-3 while attacking that will become 3-4-3 when defending with either RWB (James/Azpi) or LWB (Cucurella) fills the slot as the third centre back when defending. It’s confusing and the experiment so far except against Spurs is a total failure.
Alonso has his mind already set, so if Barca can meet our price, let’s just sell him. He only has 1 year remaining and he is 31 years old. Auba, I am still unconvinced but Tuchel wants him badly. Rumours say that it’s 10m pound + Marcos Alonso.
About Alvarez, why don’t we wait for Rice next season. I want Declan Rice. A Mexican in the Premier League, the risk of failure is just sooo big. A part Chicarito and now Jimenez, no big success of Mexican footballers in the Premier League. Again, as Auba’s transfer, I just hope we won’t get him.
September 1, 2022 at 3:41 pm #2129648Yes Lucky Denstiny,I understand the business reasons…we get Aub while Barca get Alonso, but I hazard a strong guess that Aub himself isn’t jumping up and down in glee at the prospect of coming here.Fact remains that I wouldn’t trust Barca as far as I can throw them, they’re cute ****s!.If we agree Alonso goes to Barca what’s to say Aub won’t drags his heels agreeing terms with us or he says his heart’s not in the move because his settled in Barca, where does that leave us?,where does that leave the whole double deal?,does Alonso still gets to go Barca while Aub remains where he is as the window is shutting.Sods Law tells me something is waiting to go wrong with we ending up with egg on our faces!
